#NationalCaffeineAwarenessMonth : A Coffee Lover’s Perspective

March is National Caffeine Awareness Month, but let’s be honest coffee lovers like me don’t need a special month to celebrate our favorite brew Morning, noon, and night, a good cup of coffee is always welcome. Whether it’s a hot Americano with cream or a refreshing iced coffee, my caffeine habit isn’t just a routine it’s a ritual

The Love of Coffee

There’s something about that first sip in the morning that feels like a warm hug It’s not just about the caffeine (though, let’s be real, that’s a big perk). It’s about the comfort, the aroma, and the quiet moments before the chaos of the day begins A strong Americano with a splash of cream is my go-to No frills, just bold, smooth coffee with a touch of richness

A Sweet Treat (On Occasion)

I’m not usually one for sweet coffee drinks, but every now and then, I crave something a little different When that happens, I reach for a lavender and honey latte or a rose and honey latte floral, lightly sweet, and perfectly balanced. These drinks feel like a treat without overwhelming the coffee itself

The Perks and Pitfalls of Caffeine

While coffee has plenty of benefits like improved focus, increased energy, and even antioxidants that support overall health it’s important to remember that too much of a good thing can have its downsides Like anything, moderation is key Overindulging in caffeine can lead to some unpleasant health effects, including:

⚠ Jitters and Anxiety – Too much caffeine can make you feel restless, anxious, or even shaky.

⚠ Insomnia and Sleep Disruptions – Drinking caffeine too late in the day can mess with your sleep cycle

⚠ Heart Palpitations – Some people are more sensitive to caffeine and may experience an irregular heartbeat

⚠ Increased Blood Pressure – While coffee is generally safe, excessive caffeine can temporarily raise blood pressure.

⚠ Digestive Issues – Caffeine can stimulate digestion, but too much might lead to acid reflux or stomach discomfort.

⚠ Dependency and Withdrawal – If you rely too much on caffeine, skipping your morning cup can lead to headaches, fatigue, and irritability

Celebrate Caffeine Awareness Month the Right Way

This month, I encourage my fellow coffee lovers to:

☕ Try a new coffee blend or brewing method

☕ Support a local coffee shop (hello, BrewHaHa Coffee Shop!)

☕ Be mindful of caffeine intake maybe swap out an afternoon cup for herbal tea once in a while

☕ Savor every sip and appreciate the role coffee plays in our daily lives.

At the end of the day, coffee is a beloved ritual, but balance is everything So, here’s to enjoying that perfect cup without overdoing it! Cheers to National Caffeine Awareness Month!

BrewHaHa COFFEE

849 S. Vann, Pryor, OK, 74361

“Where coffee is a big deal”

On the corner of 9th and Vann street in Pryor, Oklahoma, there's a place where coffee lovers can grab a high-quality, handcrafted cup of coffee without ever leaving their car BrewHaHa Coffee Shop, the brainchild of Carlie Nichols, has been serving up delicious brews with a side of humor and community for nearly seven years With its drive-thru-only convenience, unique menu offerings, and an unforgettable name, BrewHaHa has become a local favorite.

When Carlie first considered opening a coffee shop in Pryor, the town was surprisingly lacking one The nearest option was in Claremore a trek that wasn’t feasible for daily coffee lovers Seeing a need for locally brewed coffee that fit seamlessly into people's busy schedules, Carlie envisioned a drive-thru coffee shop as the perfect solution

However, her plans weren’t met with immediate acceptance. The idea of a coffee shop at the intersection of 9th Street and Vann Street stirred quite a bit of debate in town What began as a bit of a “brouhaha” turned into the perfect inspiration for the shop’s name. Thus, BrewHaHa was born, complete with a whimsical logo featuring a witch on a broom, riding the steam from a freshly brewed cup of coffee. The tagline? "Where coffee is a big deal " And indeed, it is BrewHaHa isn’t just another coffee shop it’s built around convenience and quality. As a drive-thru-only establishment, it caters to everyone from busy parents juggling kids in car seats to professionals rushing to work

"Some days, you just don’t want to get out of the car for your coffee fix," says Carlie "And I certainly remember how challenging it was when my kids were little!"

BrewHaHa eliminates that hassle, providing top-tier coffee in a fast and friendly way

Carlie’s journey in the coffee industry began with a simple frustration there was no great coffee in her own town. Determined to change that, she partnered with an incredible roaster, a top-tier equipment supplier, and a talented barista who helped train her team. Now, BrewHaHa is known for its consistently delicious coffee and a warm, welcoming experience for every customer

Quality is a priority at BrewHaHa, which is why Carlie continues to source her coffee beans from Nordaggio’s in Tulsa "Every Monday, we place our order, and Nordaggio roasts and ships the coffee straight to us," she explains "That freshness ensures the best flavor and quality in every drink we serve "

BrewHaHa’s menu boasts an array of customer favorites, with one drink standing out above the rest: The Beth "You might remember coining the name!" Carlie laughs "After seven years, The Beth is still our most popular drink It’s a heavenly blend of white chocolate, caramel, chocolate chips, chocolate drizzle, and whipped cream No wonder people love it!"

As for Carlie’s personal favorite? "I love a classic hot vanilla latte with half and half it gives it such a creamy texture But our newly introduced dark chocolate latte is quickly becoming a serious contender for my top spot " Beyond customer favorites, BrewHaHa is always experimenting with flavors They’ve recently started crafting their own syrups, introducing unique options like buttered pecan for fall and cranberry for the holidays. With over 30 flavors to choose from, customers can always find something new to try.

BrewHaHa’s menu isn’t limited to coffee They offer a variety of chai and tea lattes, with the London Fog a blend of Earl Grey tea, lavender, vanilla, and steamed milk being a standout choice Their newest addition, Power Spritzers, provides a sparkling energy boost, with Purple Rain (a blue energy drink with watermelon and lemon flavors) leading the charge

Despite being drive-thru only, BrewHaHa prides itself on delivering a personal and welcoming experience "We truly love seeing our customers, and we think it shows!" Carlie says. "If you’re a regular and you haven’t been in for a couple of days, we notice! We might have even talked about where you’ve been "

The Best Part of Coffee Shop Ownership?

"First, the coffee!" Carlie exclaims "I still get a little thrill every morning when I take that first sip. And second, the endless opportunities to create and experiment with new drinks and flavors. The possibilities are always exciting!"

For those needing a bite to eat, BrewHaHa has a growing selection of breakfast and snack options From donuts and breakfast sandwiches to yogurt parfaits and overnight oats, there's something for everyone Their toasted everything bagel with cream cheese, bacon, and cheddar is a must-try, as is the very berry bagel topped with cream cheese and fresh fruit

Coffee trends are always evolving, and BrewHaHa stays ahead of the curve thanks to a mix of supplier insights and barista innovation. "Our team keeps up with all the latest trends," says Carlie. "If there's a new coffee craze online, our baristas have probably already tested it out. If we love it, you’ll see it on our Try-It-Tuesday special!"

For those dreaming of opening their own coffee shop, Carlie offers one key piece of advice: "Invest in high-quality coffee beans and equipment I definitely miss our coffee when I travel!"

The “Vibe”

At its core, BrewHaHa is all about making great coffee accessible and enjoyable "We want to be your goto coffee spot, whether you stop by daily or treat yourself once in a while," Carlie says "Not sure what to order? No problem our baristas will help you find the perfect drink. Hot or cold? Over ice or blended? We’ve got you covered. And best of all, you don’t even have to leave your car!"

Stay Connected

While BrewHaHa doesn’t have a website, you can follow them on Facebook and Instagram for the latest updates on new drinks, specials, and events. For Pryor’s coffee lovers, BrewHaHa is more than just a coffee shop—it’s a community staple. And with its welcoming atmosphere, creative menu, and commitment to quality, it’s no surprise that BrewHaHa continues to be where coffee is a big deal.

H o m e s t e a d i n g a lifestyle of self-sufficiency, blending traditional skills with modern ingenuity to create a sustainable and fulfilling way of life. It’s about growing your own food, raising animals, preserving the harvest, and embracing the rhythms of nature while crafting a home that thrives on resourcefulness, resilience, and independence. Whether on acres of land or in a backyard garden, homesteading is more than just a way of living—it’s a return to roots, a commitment to sustainability, and a journey toward a more intentional, hands-on life.

The Homesteading Revival:

A Return to Self-Sufficiency

You may think homesteading is a thing of the past, but it’s making a major comeback. In a world dominated by manufacturing, large corporations, and technological advancements, the convenience of food and daily necessities has come at a cost. With these conveniences come pesticides, hormones, synthetic ingredients, and preservatives—elements that have been linked to diseases, illnesses, obesity, and other health concerns. As prices continue to rise and more people seek healthier, more natural lifestyles, the appeal of homesteading has never been stronger.

Homesteading in the Modern Era

Unlike the traditional image of homesteading— acres of farmland, livestock, and off-grid living— today’s homesteaders are redefining the movement. You don’t need a sprawling farm to start homesteading. Whether you have a backyard, a small plot of land, or even just a balcony, there are ways to embrace this lifestyle. Container gardening, vertical farming, and hydroponics make it possible to grow fresh produce even in urban settings. Raising chickens, composting, canning, and fermenting foods are also simple ways to practice homesteading within the space you have.

If you live within city limits, it’s essential to research local laws and regulations. Some cities have restrictions on raising livestock, water usage, or home-based food production. Understanding these regulations will help you make the most of your homesteading efforts without running into legal trouble.

Financial and Tax Benefits of Homesteading

Beyond the health and lifestyle benefits, homesteading can also provide financial and tax advantages. In Oklahoma, homestead laws exist to protect property owners and provide tax exemptions for those who qualify. Here are some of the key benefits for homesteaders in Oklahoma:

Homestead Property Exemptions – Property

owners can exempt up to 1 acre of property in an urban area or 160 acres in a rural area from taxation.

Primary Residence Requirement – At least 75% of the claimed square footage must be used as a primary residence.

Tax Exemptions – Homesteads are exempt from up to $1,000 of the assessed property value.

Income-Based Exemptions – Households with a gross income under $20,000 can receive an additional $1,000 exemption.

Veteran Benefits – Qualifying disabled veterans can sell their homestead and purchase another within the same year while keeping their exemption.

These financial incentives make homesteading an attractive option for many, providing stability and potential savings while promoting a healthier, more self-sufficient lifestyle.

The Future of Homesteading

Homesteading isn’t just a return to old ways—it’s a forward-thinking approach to sustainability and self-reliance. As more people seek ways to take control of their food sources, reduce waste, and build resilient communities, homesteading will continue to grow in popularity. Whether you’re looking to lower your grocery bill, eat cleaner foods, or simply live a more hands-on, intentional life, homesteading offers a rewarding path forward.

No matter where you live or how much space you have, you can take steps toward homesteading. Start small, learn as you go, and enjoy the benefits of a lifestyle that values independence, health, and sustainability.

Check the forecast for storms, and have a backup plan in case of severe weather.

Pack insect repellent and sunscreen to protect against bugs and sunburn.

5. Leave No Trace
