HullBID Fashion Week is all about supporting Hull city centre fashion and beauty retailers to showcase what is on offer. Our objective was to raise awareness of the diverse range of shops, from high end budget to shopping on a shoestring and likewise high street brand to niche independent. Our retailers look forward to this annual event which provides a platform for their business at no cost, particularly beneficial if you are a small trader. At the outset of Hull Fashion Week 2016 our aim was for shoppers to view Hull fashion and beauty with a fresh pair of eyes and we certainly achieved that!

rapping up the week, fashion students from Park Street College had the opportunity to raid Poorboy Boutique’s warehouse and pick out vintage clothing to upcycle into their own collections, which will be sold in store. Student workshops were held within Poorboy Boutique and to top it off there was a catwalk display on the bottom deck of Princes Quay to display all the fantastic items in store at Poorboy Boutique.

Hull Fashion Week is funded by HullBID and was generously sponsored by Hugh Rice, who held a business breakfast networking event as part of the celebrations, as well as an after-show party for all the businesses and models who had been involved in the week. We are extremely grateful to them for their continued support of HullBID events, and the extra sparkle they add to proceedings. We were delighted to have over 60 city centre businesses involved with Hull Fashion Week this year, whether it was putting on an event, having a market stall, offering discounts and incentives, or providing clothes and accessories for the catwalk finale. Not only does it help make Hull Fashion Week a popular and varied event, but it also allows these companies to promote what they do, and realise the great potential that events and marketing has on their business – encouraging them to spread their wings in confidence and do more themselves. We took a different path with Hull Fashion Week this year, with our style marquee, and our exhibitors and demos in Hull Truck Theatre – without whose support, along with that of The Albemarle Music Centre, we would never have been able to do what we did.
