SPOTLIGHT / THE ART OF INSPIRATION
EMMA KING THE ART OF INSPIRATION
We chat to Hull’s own born and bred How and what got you into music at an early age? EMMA KING about life as a musician, I always loved music, it caused an uncontrollable reaction and I had to be a part of it. It was a positive influence for me growing up, something that her brand new upcoming album and what always kept me focused and feeling alive. Around the house my mum inspires her to follow her heart... would always sing, I wanted to be just as good. It was a tough business to get into so young, but I remained persistent and my parents supported Emma King is a musician and writer from Hull. Her professional journey me unconditionally. I always knew I wanted to play music and I always began when she was awarded a scholarship from Carleen Anderson knew I wanted to spend part of my musical career in Tennessee. (singer of the ‘brand new heavies’ and god-daughter of James Brown) to attend the Brighton Institute of Modern Music. Emma’s live career Who were your inspirations whilst growing up? began at the tender age of 12 and after touring places such as Growing up my parents listened to Motown, Tasmin Archer, Fleetwood Germany, England, and Scotland combined with self-funded visits to Mac and Eurythmics. You cannot help but feel influenced in some way Nashville, she eventually signed a 4 year record deal in Tennessee. by the music you’re exposed to when you’re young, when I write, Annie LOCO. MAGAZINE | -6- | ISSUE 003 |
Lennox is often the voice in my head. Elvis was my earliest musical inspiration. In my early teens I listened to a lot of roots music and 90’s country, I fell in love with the Dixie Chicks, yet I couldn’t ignore the power of Alanis Morisette or Sheryl Crow at that time - there was so much great music to get your teeth into!
SPOTLIGHT / THE ART OF INSPIRATION
Tell us about how you landed your deal in the U.S...
With my band at the time we toured Europe extensively, particularly Germany and finally we had completed the album in London – the music was ready. Throughout this period I worked 5 jobs, completed my US itinerary, recorded an album and saved enough money to make my first trip to Tennessee. This was a trip I had planned in my head since I was 13! After 2 years at college I decided it was time. I left London with one suitcase and made my way to Nashville. It was a rollercoaster first trip and 3 more self-funded trips followed – eventually the band and I all signed the deal, after many showcases, trips and hardwork. I was adamant at the time that the deal included all the members who were working with me on this. Not all record labels in Nashville wanted to sign an entire band, but we took our time until we found a team willing to take all of us on, and we eventually did. A booking agency soon followed and we were on the road.
What is it really like touring the states?
You can travel 8 hours and still only be half way to your destination, the longest journey in the bus was probably 19 hours. One week we would be playing a theatre, a school and the following week a front porch. Every show was a completely new experience; every state in America is a little different, they’re almost like separate countries, with differing laws, accents, foods and musical taste, it was wonderful to be able to experience those things and play music.
What goals have you set your self in 2015? In February and March I’m in the studio working on my debut album in London. I will be releasing my first ever single to the UK this summer. Finally I will be back on the road this summer touring Europe and the US. I’m looking forward to this new adventure and working with a new team.
Where is the main source of your inspiration these Are we going to be lucky enough to have any home days? A lot of the songs for this album are experiences/events that happened town appearances during the year? over the last 5 years of my life. I experienced a whole new world, so many of the songs are about my time in Tennessee and my life experiences personally. I’ve been able to draw from 2 contrasting places which was an interesting process. It is a personal and truthful album, that I had to write.
Tell us about both the sound and the writing process for your new album...
Musically I wanted this album to take on a new lease of life, I wanted to mix the two places in sound - so half of the album was written in America and the other half in England. I wrote all the songs on my album along with Ritch Spence. I wanted to combine that feeling I got from Sun Studio (Memphis) with my love of Europe. You will hear some Soul/Motown/ elements mixed with some passionate Pop/Rock vibes. It’s different from anything I’ve done before, I wanted to stretch outside of my comfort zone.
Well, I am delighted to announce I will be playing the WEST PARK PARTY in Hull on the 11th July www.westparkparty.co.uk. It’s a family event with some big names (I’m not allowed to give THAT away just yet!) tickets are available from the website! This is going to be huge! I am incredibly honoured to be taking part in this festival and representing my home town, it’s going to be a magical day!! THE DIAMOND DUST COLLECTION A throwback look at this beautiful event held at The Art Market in Cottingham The ‘Diamonds and Bubbly’ event held at The Art Market was an evening to celebrate contemporary artist Simon Claridge. In 2014 he began a collaboration with Twentieth Century Fox - a Hollywood studio synonymous with some of the greatest films in living memory - and one of their most illustrious film stars; Marilyn Monroe. It took Claridge over a year to gain permission to access the Fox archives, and this is the first time an artist has been trusted to translate these precious images into fine art. Each of the six silkscreens stem from original photography stills and film outtakes from Marilyn’s most iconic films; ‘Gentleman Prefer Blondes’ and ‘How to Marry a Millionaire’. Perhaps most famously used by Andy Warhol, Simon Claridge has since made Diamond Dust an elemental component of his work, using it to add the glamour that his subjects command. Each silk screen is coated in a layer of the crushed lead crystal. The sheen created by the Diamond Dust dictates that it will reflect differently according to the light sources around it. Arguably, this is fitting and appropriate to Monroe. She had so many guises, was open yet guarded, was known to so many but understood by so few...in short, she was many different things to many different people. Herein lies the beauty of this collection, Simon Claridge has surrendered control of the artistic finish and allowed Marilyn to shine. This collection is available on paper or canvas and prices start from £995. For more information and to see other artists work head over to www.artmarket.co.uk LOCO. MAGAZINE | -10- | ISSUE 003 |

LITTLE PEARL BRIDAL BOUTIQUE Held at The Little Pearl Bridal Boutique 12th February 2015 Nestled in the historic market town of Pickering, The Little Pearl Bridal Boutique opened its doors to brides on the most romantic day of the year Valentine’s Day! A few days before the opening, Diana McMann, owner of the boutique hosted a little launch party that we had the pleasure of attending. The evening gave a fantastic glimpse into the style and class that the boutique will provide brides to be and Diana was delighted with how the launch event went saying “It was lovely to see so many family, friends and industry friends come and support the launch of the boutique. Seeing the expressions on people’s faces when they walked into the boutique was the best feeling. All the hard work over the past few months has certainly paid off! It was a great opportunity to showcase our stunning designers, share our plans and say some important thank you’s, plus lots of fizz! We even took a booking from a future bride.” Situated on Eastgate this beautiful little boutique is now open and accepting bookings. Diana explains what makes the shop unique saying “Here at The Little Pearl we pride ourselves on giving brides the most perfect experience from the minute they come to see us until their wedding day. We have lots of special things planned at the boutique and can’t wait to share them with lots of lucky brides!” To get in touch and find out more about Little Bridal Boutique go visit their brand new store or get in contact using the details below. 19 EASTGATE PICKERING YO18 7DU TEL: 01751 798080 diana@thelittlepearlbridalboutique.co.uk www.thelittlepearlbridalboutique.co.uk Facebook /thelittlepearlbridalboutique Twitter @littlepearlbb Instagram @littlepearlbridal Photography taken by Hayley Baxter Photography also by Georgina Harrison LOCO. EAT & DRINK
Welcome to
THE BLENDING ROOM I begin with a confession, I have over the last decade become addicted, obsessed and unequivocally devoted to the following words, ‘skinny, hazelnut, latte’. Terminology that ironically describes a drink completely hidden in its own title. The ‘cup of coffee’ has over recent years become progressively concealed by a veil of milk, sugars and syrups, in order to appeal to a broader audience and meet the commercial needs of a growing global market. In fact give it a couple more years and we may well be asked if we would like some ‘Coffee Sprinkles’ with our ‘Cinnamon Syrup Mochaccino’. It’s time to strip back the sweeteners, cut the cream and enjoy a good old fashioned brew. I would like to share a second confession, I always thought coffee was brown, please tell me I’m not the only one?! You can therefore imagine my dismay when stepping through the doors of ‘The Blending Room’ in Hull to see owner James Wilkins, pouring a tub of green beans into the top of what can only be described as looking like a giant washing machine. This awesome piece of kit whirled away in the background whilst James focused scrupulously on his laptop, illuminating the room with its extravagant graphs, charts and streams of flashing data. Watching on in awe, I felt like I had wandered into a mini laboratory, then again what was I expecting? The truth is I arrived at this little industrial unit with a set of prophesied beliefs, based on a naïve and uninformed view that all coffee in one way or another was pretty much the same, whether it came from Costa or Kenco. James did however point out that I wasn’t entirely to blame, saying “The big commercial coffee giants tend to roast the beans so dark that it takes the bulk of the flavour out of the blend. They do this to ensure the baristas can’t damage the coffee in the brewing process, as this can result in inconsistencies, which they most certainly don’t want. The downside is it removes most of the flavour variances, which when combined with milk and sugar completely flatten the coffee’s profile”. The analogy James makes is to cooking, explaining that you can buy a good piece of steak and a bad piece but if you completely overcook them both they will taste broadly the same. The art, according to James, is in sourcing great produce and then nurturing it throughout the entire production process, from the farmer to the roaster and finally the barista. The aim is clearly to harness and carry through to the cup as much flavour as possible. LOCO. MAGAZINE | -19- | ISSUE 003 |
EAT & DRINK
James’ passion for coffee began over 14 years ago whilst working in a number of independent coffee shops across East Yorkshire. Inspired by his father who established ‘The Newmarket Coffee Company’ in 2002, he made the decision step into the world of coffee roasting just over 5 years ago and hasn’t looked back since. James explains how it all started, saying “We began on Beverley Market, selling in small quantities and building our brand, now we source and roast coffee for 35-40 independent coffee shops and restaurants, as well as delivering direct to customers all over the country via our website”.
LOCO. MAGAZINE | -20- | ISSUE 003 |
EAT & DRINK The key to James’ success lies in his meticulous production methods. He starts off by sourcing the highest rated coffee via selected exporters, who work with the best farms in areas such as Brazil, Ethiopia and Kenya. He then rests the beans for a period of time before roasting. The roasting process itself involves extraordinary levels of care and attention, as James monitors the inputs from his laptop, whilst frequently sample testing each batch to ensure optimum results. James explains the importance of this, saying “Each time a new coffee arrives in the roastery I have to profile roast it. This means deciding what time, temperature and best application of heat will suit the coffee”. Each profile according to James has to be roasted, tasted and scored before the coffee is released, on average creating a production timeline of nearly 2 weeks from start to finish.
the answer is probably no, you would more than likely go to a nice restaurant serving high quality food. Ultimately the choice you make is entirely dependent on your situation, therefore I would say that now more than ever there is definitely a market for both”.
This brings me to my final confession, even after drinking the wonderful Ethiopan blend that James brewed for me, it pains me to say it but I simply can’t promise that I won’t step into a Caffe Nero again. Why? Well because until more people hear about the wonderful blends that James and other equally talented roasters in the area provide, then high quality coffee will continue to be hidden away in the background, behind a layer of artificial sweeteners and mass market branding, forcing myself and others to resort to expressos in order to get our caffeine hit. I therefore would like to The explosion of coffee culture in the early 2000’s has certainly helped finish with a request that after reading this article I hope more local James’ business and he is very thankful to the global chains for bringing restaurants and coffee shops out there will feel empowered to pick up coffee to the masses, as it has built sustainable scale in the industry and the phone, call James and try his fantastic coffee for themselves. As I in turn created an emerging niche for high quality alternatives. James honestly hope that in the not too distant future we will all have the is also very keen to point out that whilst he produces single origin opportunity to choose quality and equality when the desire for coffee and espresso coffee, there is most definitely a place for both himself kicks in. and the skinny lattes saying “If you are in a rush and need a quick bite to eat, you may go to a McDonalds for a burger, however if DISCOVER MORE BY VISITING: you are going out with your girlfriend would you still take her to WWW.THEBLENDINGROOM.CO.UK McDonalds? Gemini Chocolate Self taught Chocolatier Sam Chandler tells us all about his brand new organic brand
It’s safe to say that almost everyone is a fan of chocolate in some shape or form. It seems to hit that spot no matter what the occasion. It doesn’t seem to make no odds wether you’re happy, sad or simply searching to satisfy that inevitable sugar fix. That delicious yet fattening friend will always find a way to our hearts. Thankfully self taught Chocolatier Sam Chandler is creating just that but better, a totally organic brand of chocolate that is “good for you” yet still tastes fantastic. Immediately we made it our perogative to meet Sam and chat to him about the past, present and future of his brand new brand, Gemini Chocolate. LOCO. MAGAZINE | -22- | ISSUE 003 |
For the last 6 months Sam has been stationed in his own kitchen, honing and perfecting his craft of creating beautifully presented chocolate combined with nutritious and organic benefits. Almost instantaneously our first thought was to try and get this revolutionary pioneer of confectionary some sort of medal, knighthood or at least some form of small plaque. Fortunately Sam was kind enough to invite us down to his humble home labratory in order to discuss all things chocolate and produce and this article instead. Ultimately Sam’s creation method is nothing short of an artistic approach, with no background or training in the food industry whatsoever, it really is inspiring to see what just what can be born out of pure passion. “Gemini is all about preserving the raw essence of what chocolate truly is”. Each piece is an acurate reflection of what the brand Gemini stands for. Not one single detail has been spared, combing unique and stylish presentation with a taste like no other. Sam’s concious and innovative approach to chocolate is something that just simply has to be experienced.

‘Where the magic happens’ - Picture 1 taken in Sam’s kitchen
Gemini is simply ‘chocolate to live for’. It is made with handmade raw chocolate that has been carefully created using only organic ingredients to be as healthy as possible without the expense of flavour. If you are unaware of what raw chocolate actually is - it is chocolate that has not been heated above 42 degrees celsius at any stage of the processing. This is to preserve the impressive array of nutrients and extremely high levels of antioxidants that are present in the raw cacao bean. The unique flavour has also been achieved using absolutely no added sugar or dairy. Healthy sweeteners from South America, such as bacon syrup and lucuma powder, have been Gemini Box Selection used instead to achieve the characteristic bitter/sweet quality of - Picture 2 ‘chocolate to live for’. Inside a box of Gemini Chocolate (featured in picture 2) you find 2 different types of chocolate, the round one being cacao and coconut oil and the square one being dates and hazelnuts. ‘Chocolate to live for’ is just Sam’s first project and he does have ambitions to expand Gemini and ultimately move into different products. The name Gemini is simply down to the fact Sam and his brother share the same star sign. “The name is pretty cool, simple and it’s not that restricting. If I ever decided to expand away from chocolate we could potentially do that under the same brand”. ALL OF SAM’S PRODUCTS ARE CURRENTLY BEING SOLD ONLINE SO HEAD OVER TO WWW.GEMINICHOCOLATE.CO.UK TO TRY THEM FOR YOURSELF.

THE POWER OF THE BROW
Lesley Wilks - Beauty Expert
Welcome to my new beauty column, where each month I will be taking you into ‘my beauty world’ and looking at all the latest products and treatments to make you feel more beautiful. Fast becoming the latest fashion ‘must have’, celebrities such as Cara Delavigne, Rita Ora and Megan Fox have brought the full, natural eyebrow from the red carpet into our lives. Gone are the days of the strong, scary ‘scouse brow’ and natural is back, whether you are 18 or 80 there’s one thing in common, brows are big news! Here’s an insight into the latest treatments and products available, so you can now achieve that bit of polished perfection. OPTION 1 Pencils, Palettes and Quick Fixes Ideal as a first step if your nervous about experimenting with new shapes and colours. Perfect the art of drawing using a soft pencil such as HD Brows new brow define pencil (£16) or control unruly brows with Brow Colourfix (£22). Hint: To create a more lifted look ensure the tail of the brow isn’t lower than the bulb (front where your brow starts) this can cause a droopy eyed look! The highest point of your brow should be the top of the arch. OPTION 2 HD Brows Perfect for women wanting a more defined, precise brow, often working gradually on the design and shape with a regrowth programme. Suitable for all ages, in some cases a softer, more natural brow is required. Founder of HD Brows and one of the world’s leading brow experts Nilam Holmes has revolutionised eyebrow care to give everyone that extra look-good, feel-good factor, that can completely change your face and features. Following a 7 step system HD Brows prides itself on its strict training programme ensuring clients can expect no imitations and more importantly a level of relevant expertise from their official salon. “I had never touched my brows for 40 years , I always had blonde brows and never saw the need to do anything to them but since you started doing my HD’s I would not be without them! They frame my face, make my eye make up look better and give definition to my whole face! Seriously, I can’t believe I actually went 40 years without ever having them done!” - Melanie Wood. OPTION 3 Permanent/Semi Permanent Make Up Permanent make-up has catapulted to the forefront of the beauty industry in the past 5 years and is one of the highest demanding treatments at present. Personally I love nothing more than seeing the new found confidence this can bring. Perfect for clients of all ages with sparse hair growth or no hair, lack of shape and thickness. Permanent make up is a form of cosmetic tattooing also known as micropigmentation. Pharmaceutical grade pigments are applied to the skin to create beautiful colour that resembles perfectly applied make-up. This is very much a 2 part procedure with a top up treatment after 6-8 weeks. Choosing which type of brow is most suitable for you is paramount in this process, whether it be delicate, natural hairstroke, a combination 3D brow or a stronger powder design. THE COMBINATION OF HER INCREDIBLY SUCCESSFUL LABEL AND BOHEMIA BUSINESS HAS NOW SEEN A RECENT MOVE TO HESSLE UNDER THE NEW BRANDING BOHEMIA BOUTIQUE. HERE ARE HER HINTS TIPS AND TRICKS TO KEEP YOU LOOKING AND FEELING GREAT.
STYLE, SHOPPING & CONFIDENCE Try and try again
Be confident
If in doubt… Try it on… What’s the worst that can happen? But at least you’ll have tried! Many designs don’t have hanger appeal but once you get your body in them they come alive. So give a garment the benefit of the doubt and then at least you’ll know, instead of dismissing everything on the rail and leaving a shop empty handed.
Once you’ve found your “own style” you’ll instantly hold your head higher. You have to feel good in what you’re wearing, feel awkward and start “faffing” with your outfit you’ll look awkward. Get it right and you’ll hold yourself differently and exude confidence!
Don’t be a slave to trends
Shop alone or with someone you trust
Instead of slavishly following trends, try to work out firstly what suits you. Once you know what shades, silhouettes and styles will flatter your frame then try & translate each season’s trends to work for you. Instead of jumping on the bandwagon, pick out key items from the trend whether it be a particular colour, print, accessory or item of clothing, just don’t wear them altogether. Sometimes less is more.
I always shop alone if I have something important to shop for. Obviously owning my own boutique I will always wear my own label for an important event but a girl always needs shoes & handbags!! You can stay focused and not get side tracked into what others think you should be wearing. It can be great fun shopping with friends but 9 times out of 10 you’ll get home and think, ”What on earth have I bought?”
Stick to what you know suits you (but be open to ideas!)

There’s nothing worse than coming out of a fitting room and hearing, “Ooh you look lovely!” When you know full well it doesn’t and they’re just paying you lip service. I prefer to go boutique shopping where you get a much more personal service. It pays to be honest, I refused to sell a particular garment to a customer because I just knew she wouldn’t wear it. The look on her face was priceless, needless to say she thanked me for my honesty and is now a regular customer. R ICH A R D M c K E AT I NG Our trusted health and fitness expert Richard McKeating is one of the country’s top personal trainers, winning the coveted Men’s Health PT of the year award in 2013, as well as having Sport England and Hull KR on his CV. A former Royal Marine Commando, Rich focuses on long term sustainable training methods to create a healthy balanced lifestyle, not just a short term fix.
THE BODY YOU’LL BE WEARING THIS SUMMER IS BEING MADE RIGHT NOW! When summer comes and you whip out the swimwear, imagine proudly strutting the beach feeling great! Lots of people come to me saying they feel embarrassed by the pool. Don’t wait, here’s what you can do right now, these principles helped me develop my 6 pack. Firstly get on top of nutrition, this isn’t complicated. You don’t need a nutrition expert to know what’s healthy. You can enjoy pizza and beer from time to time, but show a little discipline most of the week, stay focused on what you could achieve by June and it won’t feel like a chore. Now exercise, I really believe the best way to get in shape is through resistance training, I still use a little cardio here and there, but in my experience of helping people achieve good figures, I’ve found that adding some lean tissue helps to create better shape and lower bodyfat, as a bonus you also get to eat a little more. Thirdly lifestyle, people usually ignore this part, but what you eat and how you train will only come to fruition when your body is resting, get out and enjoying life, take walks in the countryside, time out with peace and a cup of tea! And get plenty of quality sleep. Finally, find someone to hold you accountable. Even though I’m a Personal Trainer with my own hurtlocker, I still paid another guy to measure me, write my programs, tell me what to eat and keep me to my word, this was crucial, nobody can do it all by themselves. When summer comes, you’ll be wearing the body you’re creating now. To get in touch with Rich please visit: WWW.RICHMCKEATING.COM / TWITTER - @RMK_WELLBEING

Hull & East Yorkshire Community Acupuncture
PICTURED: Jane Marsh (left) & Eileen Birrell (right) becoming human pin cushions. Stepping inside our fears were immediately quelled as we were invited through to the warm and spacious clinic room, were a handful of comfy recliners were positioned symmetrically behind two sets of opposing blinds. Taking a seat with a cup of tea amongst mellow ambient lighting, we were already starting to feel a sense of relaxation. Eileen says this is exactly what acupuncture is all about, “it is not just a case of run in, sit down, have a treatment and run out, it is a process of relaxation and healing that starts as soon as you enter the clinic”. Both Eileen and Jane are former nurses and midwives who opted for a career change based on their own experiences of acupuncture, Eileen says “We believe that in order to treat an illness you have to focus on the whole person not just their symptoms”. Since qualifying from In order to achieve this we took a trip down to ‘The Wellbeing Centre’ the Northern College of Acupuncture in York both Eileen and Jane aim in Market Weighton to meet Jane Marsh and Eileen Birrell, completely to combine all of their healthcare knowledge, training and experience unaware of what to expect and a little nervous about potentially to meet the diverse requirements of their client base.

The list of misconceptions and excuses relating to acupuncture are endless, yet at their source is one burning question, What on earth is it? After all we always fear that in which we do not understand. Our goal for this article is to completely dispel these myths, tell the true story behind modern day acupuncture and invite you to discover its great healing benefits for yourself.

Pardon the pins. Have we achieved our goal in disproving the myths? Let’s see. It’s ancient folk medicine. Yes it is, yet over the course of 2,000 years it has evolved and developed as a treatment that is now taught by leading universities and administered by trained nurses. I don’t need it. You don’t have to be physically or mentally unwell to have a treatment, if you simply want to relax and re-energise then it could be perfect for you. The needles will hurt. We promise you they won’t, they are so thin you won’t even feel them. It won’t work. The treatment focuses on balancing our internal energies, to restore any imbalances which could be adversely affecting our wellbeing”. So where do the needles come in? Eileen jokingly responds “Your back, arms, legs anywhere really, there are over 300 classical acupuncture points on 12 meridian lines throughout your body. These meridian lines are the channels through which energy flows and by inserting needles we can stimulate these areas in order to ease pain, stress, anxiety and general ill health”.

IT’S ALL IN THE ADDED DETAIL The premium large saloon from Infiniti has been updated for 2015 with the aim of more luxury and better refinement
PICTURED: The updated Infinti Q70
The basics of this medium-sized premium saloon remain the same, but there are numerous detail changes. On the outside it receives a minor makeover inspired by the smaller Q50, the new bumpers front and rear have a sharper edge to them while there are also LED lights front and rear. The Q70 also gains the option of the 2.2-litre diesel already seen in the Q50 as well as the existing hybrid option, while there is a new low price for the entry-level model and upgraded specification across the range. There have also been changes to soundproofing to improve refinement and revised dampers for better ride quality. The changes to the Q70’s exterior mean it now wears the large family grille design as well as the more distinctive LED headlights, and it undoubtedly makes it stand out more than before. It also looks quite unlike any of its rivals with a heavily-curved exterior with contrasting sharp edges. It may not be to all tastes but it certainly has presence. Infiniti is still building an image in the UK, helped by its partnership with the Red Bull F1 team, but for the moment it still has the novelty of being a relatively rare sight. The Q70 has one of the longest wheelbases in its class and the upshot of that is an impressive amount of interior space. In the front the head and legroom is excellent, while in the back it is the very generous legroom that givesthe Q70 an LOCO. MAGAZINE | -32- | ISSUE 003 |
almost limousine-like feel. Headroom in the back is also very good. The downside of hybrid power is 100 litres less boot space at 350 litres, but the diesel option restores this to a more generous 450 litres. Inside the Q70 is finished to a high standard with leather as standard on all models complemented by a wood or piano black finish depending on the trim level, although the cabin has a more traditional layout than the younger Q50. Although it’s the more expensive controlled on a variety of surfaces, although it is still capable of handling vigorous driving when demanded. Anyone interested in getting around in comfort will find plenty to like here. The Q70’s big draw is the amount of standard kit and value for money that it offers. Unlike some of its rivals there is a pretty short trim hierarchy and very little on the options list. The entry-level Premium model comes with full satellite navigation, 18- inch alloy wheels, front and rear LED lights, heated and ventilated leather front seats, front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera. Moving up to the Tech trim adds the Dynamic Safety Shield comprising of blind spot assistance, lane-departure warning and active cruise control, a Bose premium audio system and Forest air conditioning amongst other features. The Q70 has executive written all over it, which is why it is specified to the hilt.
Infiniti is up front in suggesting that it is likely to be favoured by an older buyer, but it’s not hard to see the appeal; it is a comfortable and relatively spacious saloon that offers a lot for the money.

TIME FOR A TWIST OF LIME Leading Hull agency, Lime Property is set to deliver a fresh alternative for East Yorkshire landlords and tenants, with the opening of their stylish new branch in Beverley’s Saturday Market.
The office on the corner of Dyer Lane and Ladygate, offers top quality properties across the local area, bringing the company’s first class service and experience to the historic market town and its surrounding villages. A joint venture between Lime owner Paul Green and Beverley resident Charlotte Mettyear, the development comes hot on the heels of the agency being crowned Hull’s number one lettings agent by national property website Rightmove. Charlotte, formerly a lettings negotiator at the Hull office has been with the company for three-and-a-half-years and will now manage the Beverley operation following its launch in February. Charlotte explains why the move is perfect for Lime, saying “Beverley is such a lovely place to live, the demand for quality rented accommodation is always going to be high, so it makes complete sense for the business to expand here”. Joining Charlotte at the Beverley office is lettings manager Sarah Randell, who will oversee the introduction of new landlords and tenants, with the support of the team from the Hull office based at the Pod, St Andrews Quay. The team have already been in negotiation with several landlords from across the region and are encouraging more to come and see what Lime can offer.
PICTURED: The new Lime Property office on Dyer Lane
Charlotte is very keen to build a strong image in the area, saying “Beverley is a very traditional town and our intentions are to respect those traditions and the way people do business, but also to bring to Beverley the kind of service that has put us at the top of Rightmove’s mystery shopper survey, making us the best performing lettings agent in Hull”. When asked what makes working with Lime unique, Charlotte said “It is the level of service that marks Lime out, we always go out of our way to ensure the landlords and the tenants get the best from working with us”. Paul Green, owner of Lime Property, said the move was very much part of a growth strategy which could see the business expand into other parts of the East Riding in the future. “Beverley is going to be a great move for us and is the natural place for us to set up now we are officially the best agency in Hull,” he said “I don’t think we will stop there. I fully expect in the future we will open in other strategic places as well, so we can extend the Lime Property customer experience to the whole of the county.” LOCO. MAGAZINE | -42 - | ISSUE 003 |

A WIN WIN SITUATION
PICTURED: John Dibble (PJPS Construction), Dave Ettridge (Ettridge Architecture), Steve Alltoft (Probe), Rosie Millard, Jayne Brindley (Probe), Kevin Marling (Delaney Marling Partnership) and Phil Jenkinson (PJPS Construction).
Rosie Millard, Chair of Hull CIty of Culture 2017 visited two of Probe (Hull) Limited’s current projects in the East of the City. The not for profit company has purchased the birth place and home of Hull Industrialist and film maker, J. Arthur Rank for refurbishment and will return it to the market as affordable housing for local people. Ms Millard also visited an individual property on Middleburg Street which has taken nine months to complete as part of a live project for students of Hull College. This has now been handed back to the Lord Mayor of Hull in an official ceremony. An awareness raising campaign run by Probe demonstrates the major benefit it has in the local community by restoring and refurbishing derelict buildings. These are houses and premises such as abandoned pubs that have become a blight on the local community. Probe is able to purchase and restore them to their former glory. By working in partnership with local businesses such as Chartered Building Surveyors Delaney Marling Partnership, Probe’s students work on ‘live’ property renovations mainly based within East Hull. Some of the properties that have remained unoccupied for more than six months are purchased by Probe and extensively refurbished to improve the availability and quality of living accommodation for people living in Hull. Rosie Millard received a tour of on-going works at the Rank House and was very impressed by the work and ethos Probe and said: “Middleburg was a derelict wreck which has been transferred by students from Hull College who have learned how to plumb the house, re-wire it, build an extension, plaster and decorate it. their skills while regenerating the fabric of the City. I have heard of a lot of win-win situations but this one tops it.” “The Rank House has also been regenerated by Probe and that is going to be rented out by people of modest means, as affordable housing. This is another great project which is rejuvenating the fabric of the City and giving people somewhere wonderful to live and acting as a reminder of what a great City Hull really is.” Probe is currently working to raise awareness of their projects and the value it offers to the local community. A variety of projects all at different stages of planning and restoration are spread out across Hull including Hessle Road, Wright Street as well as East Hull areas. Steve Alltoft, general manager at Probe (Hull) Limited explains: “We provide ‘real life’ work experience opportunities for students that have enrolled on to both full-time and part-time courses at Hull College. Under the guidance of the tutors, students undertake a wide range of tasks to improve their skills and knowledge by working on a multi-disciplined construction site.” “The excellent facilities at Queen’s Gardens provide a solid foundation upon which students can build. The learning environment is enhanced by a purpose built Construction Skills Centre in the heart of the Preston Road regeneration area. Located on Portobello Street, the Centre currently offers a wide range of Diploma and NVQ courses in bricklaying, carpentry, joinery and general construction operations.” For further information please visit www.probehomes.co.uk
