FEEL THE HEAT The longer days and warmer nights are upon us, delivering a welcome sense of escapism, a new born positivity and a much needed shot of vitality. After what seemed like an unrelenting winter period, summer has finally arrived and as the temperatures soar into record figures, we have a red hot edition of LOCO ready to share with you. This month’s features include a scintillating showcase of summer fashion, with everything from Bohemian Beauty to Versatile Vintage. Elsewhere we have a quietly revealing interview with our cover star, Laura Marks, in which she shares her perspective on the changing faces of fashion and fitness. Meanwhile as the festival season kicks into full swing, we venture to the city’s musical capital on Humber Street, to meet respected local artist Kristian Eastwood and discuss the rhythmic revolution taking place across our region. There are many more wonders hidden inside, which we’ll leave you to discover at your own relaxed pace; hopefully in an appropriately seasonal setting. After all, as American author Sam Keen once said, ‘Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability’.

crolling aimlessly through social media feeds has now cemented itself as a key activity in most of our daily lives. Instinctively reaching for our phones first thing in the morning and last thing at night to gawp at the ever changing reel of images on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram has become a strict and somewhat addictive ritual. The products, places and people we choose to ‘like’ and ‘follow’ form an eclectic and vibrant wallpaper of inspiration, that guides our daily thoughts and actions. Two trends that are currently hitting our news feeds at a consistent and rapid rate are fitness and fashion. Snaps and clips covering everything from recipe ideas and exercise routines, to photoshoots and catwalks are exploding onto our smartphone screens, creating an aspirational lifestyle built around the principles of health and style. This trend is the culmination of two huge industries finally beginning to merge. Yet it was not that long ago that going to the gym meant squeezing into a pair of uncomfortable and unflattering lycra shorts and throwing on an oversized faded t-shirt. Exercise was seen as a functional and tedious activity that deserved as much fashion focus and preparation as washing your car. Fast forward to the present day and luxury sportswear brands such as ‘Sweaty Betty’ are appearing on the catwalk at London Fashion Week and onto the rails in Selfridges and Harrods, encouraging you to look and feel great when you turn up to your weekly Zumba class. Fitness is becoming a fashionable lifestyle that is starting to encapsulate everything from what you eat to what you wear. It is wide ranging, infectious and bang on trend. One of the architects behind the trend’s local growth is fitness fanatic and activewear ambassador Laura Marks. A certified Metafit and Zumba trainer who recently became the face of emerging sports crossover brand ‘Every Second Counts’. An icon of health, beauty and style with a social media following in the thousands and a growing reputation as one of the best personal trainers in the County, Laura is the perfect person to explain how looking good and feeling great is a lifestyle that we can all adopt, male or female, old or young. We chose to meet Laura at one of her current work venues, the incredibly stylish Box Gym, at The KP Club in Pocklington. A brand new state of the art fitness centre, perched on an elevated position overlooking the truly stunning golf course and grounds, it was the perfect location to discuss the recent collision between the worlds of health and style. The Box itself is designed to allow visitors to ‘escape the stresses and strains of modern day life’. Its design is simple and elegant with nordic style wooden panelling, floor to ceiling mirrors and a modern minimalist gym that is complimented by a glass partitioned exercise studio. Laura has worked here as a PT since its opening in early May and says it is the perfect leisure venue for a number of reasons, “It’s a beautiful building, it’s bright and spacious with first class equipment and the view over the course makes it such a pleasant place to work and train”. The development of the fitness centre is a sign of the KP Clubs progression with the luxury hotel, lodges and restaurant all now complimenting
the stunning golf course. For Laura, working as a Health & Fitness Instructor at The Box is the culmination of years of hard work, which for her began back in the days of school and college. “I’ve always loved sport, I wanted to be a PE teacher at first but soon realised that I enjoyed the practical side far more than the theory. I chose to study Dance at Wilberforce College and as a result found that training people in health and fitness was my real passion”. By the age of 17 Laura had become a fully certified personal trainer and began to gain experience working at a number of local gyms including David Lloyd. “I was enjoying working with members of the public to help them achieve their goals but ironically I didn’t really know what my own goal was in terms of my career, it was just a case of waiting to see what opportunities presented themselves and where my passion took me”. Dance has always played an important role in Laura’s career to date and is still a key component of her fitness regimes, currently running a number of Zumba classes alongside her Metafit sessions. This increasing trend towards more enjoyable and entertaining workouts has seen dance based exercise flourish, with nearly every village hall in the country now hosting a Zumba class throughout the week. Laura explains their popularity, saying “it allows people of all ages to get involved, have fun, dance to music and burn a lot of calories in a short space of time”. Laura’s passion for dance and exercise led to her appearing on Sky TV channel ACTIVE at just 19 years old, presenting a Street dance Aerobics programme, “I put forward a proposal to Sky for a programme that would allow stay at home mums or people who couldn’t get to the gym the opportunity to get fit in their own home”. Unfortunately due to work commitments and the difficulties in travelling back and forth to London, Laura had to withdraw from the show saying “It was great fun and a real high point for me but it was just too expensive for me to continue commuting so I had to give it up. I would love in the future to do something similar again because I do believe there is a real lack of informative and entertaining fitness based television out there at the moment for people who are unable to regularly get out of the house”. Laura has continued to further her development in the area of personal training with a very simple but effective approach, “I believe there are two fundamentals to becoming fitter and healthier. Firstly understand what you can and can’t eat, yes there are basic principles such as don’t eat a pizza everyday however everyones body is different and therefore we must each understand what we can and can’t eat, once you do that your diet becomes your lifestyle. Secondly find an exercise programme that works for you, I always tell my clients to have a goal and then work back from there.
“There was once a time when only the wealthy could afford to work with a personal trainer”

Discover what you enjoy doing and then work hard at it, if you want to lose a few pounds and enjoy dance then try Zumba, if you want to achieve your goals quicker and fancy something more intense then try Metafit. Whatever you choose to do it is absolutely imperative that you enjoy doing it, otherwise it won’t be sustainable”. Personal training has become somewhat of a buzz word over the past few years, attracting a whole host of newly qualified people into the profession. The industry according to a recent report by IBISWorld is now worth a staggering £600m with over 22,000 certified trainers in the UK. This number has risen by over 70% in the last 10 years and demonstrates that more and more people are investing in their health and appearance. Laura believes this is purely down to the rise in the quantity of PT’s which has made it more accessible. “There was once a time when only the wealthy could afford to work with a personal trainer. Nowadays due to rising gym fees and the increasing number of qualified trainers, it means the market is more competitive and therefore prices have dropped creating a greater degree of accessibility”. Whilst this certainly brings positives Laura is cautious over the industries growth. “Personal training isn’t something you simply learn and do, it is a way of life that you must believe in and work hard at in order to stay at the forefront. Ultimately your passion and desire to progress will be key in the development of you and your clients”. Laura’s dedication to mastering her craft has resulted in her being scouted by emerging luxury activewear brand ‘Every Second Counts’ to become one of their athlete ambassadors. The clothing brand founded by Sally Dixon, a former magazine fashion director, is designed for the first time gym goer as well as the fitness fanatic with a focus on crossover apparel, that can be worn as comfortably in a Pilates class as during a trip to the local shops. Hybrid fashion has become a ubiquitous trend, particularly in the world of activewear. It’s renaissance began at last year’s New York fashion week when well known retailer JCREW opted to pair yoga bottoms with a classic cut blazer. However the fusion of style and sport has existed in designer clothing for decades. Think back to the launch of Lacoste apparel and their Tennis T-shirts, originally considered suitable only for the grass courts of SW19 it was soon applied to the sport of Polo which led to it being adopted by Ralph Lauren. Yet nowadays we simply perceive the term ‘Polo Shirt’ as nothing more than a style of t-shirt, a style that has become embedded in all levels of contemporary fashion. Laura believes that the trend will only become more popular as we start to see more brands pushing the boundaries with crossover clothing. “I have always believed if you look good then you will feel great and that’s why wearing quality stylish clothing is important whether you are in the gym or going out for dinner. Granted I maybe wouldn’t wear a lycra crop top and leggings to Pizza Express but the concept that activewear brings more flexibility into our daily lives and means we can remain comfortable and stylish no matter where we are or what we are doing is a great development in the world
of fashion”. Laura was spotted by Sally through her Instagram account where she has become locally famous for pictures of her nutritious culinary creations, mini exercise videos and a heap of motivational selfies. Describing her new role with ESC Laura says, “I’m so proud to be selected to partner with such an exciting and up and coming brand that epitomises my approach to fitness and fashion. Just like finding the right foods for your diet, it is important to find the right clothing for your wardrobe and ESC is the perfect fit for anyone leading an active lifestyle, whilst still searching for comfort and class”. Laura wants to further develop the opportunity given to her by Sally and possibly venture into the world of fitness modelling, saying “I would love to become an icon for fitness and style to help inspire and motivate other people to achieve their goals. I really enjoy promoting health and wellbeing through my social media and in association with other brands would love to have the opportunity to build a career as someone who is looked up to as a symbol of motivation and inspiration”. As the summer approaches industry experts expect the lines of active and casual wear to become even more blurred, as men and women make their style decisions based on appearance over activity. Whilst the garments still have to perform in both areas it is less about their functional behaviour and more about the image they represent. The industry is clearly experiencing a fundamental shift with social media becoming the driving force behind the evolution and expansion of new trends. The beauty of this transition is that it is being led by the people, not the brands. Seemingly as the social network continues to spread it’s reach, the playing field of influence will continue to become less hierarchical, with local celebrities already appearing alongside global superstars in our daily news feeds. Gone are the days of fashion being only for the elites, 21st century social media has become the great equalizer, tearing away convention and replacing it with dispersion. As the veil of mystery is lifted we are becoming more accustomed to an aspirational lifestyle that feels more accessible and achievable than ever before. Put simply the jaw dropping images of Miranda Kerr in a tiny bikini on a beach in the Caribbean are no longer your sole point of reference when searching for summer fitness inspiration. Laura sums this transition up beautifully, “Social media, particularly sites like Instagram have created a global platform for normal people like myself to build a portfolio and share our progress in order to inspire and motivate others. That excites me because it is creating an opportunity for us as individuals to fuse and blend our passions and values in order to collectively create or drive a trend”. This concept is empowering people to not just think about the genres of fashion, fitness and food as distinct entities but as an intrinsic lifestyle choice that embodies them all. One in which encapsulates a generation of people and creates a sense of complete involvement within the overarching theme of style. Coco Chanel said it first but now more than ever people are starting to say confidently, “I don’t do fashion, I am fashion”.

SUNSET TRENDS In the world of fashion, the sartorial seasons revolve at such a rapid rate, with the fall collections of many designers already upon us, it is important to be reminded of the more organic cycle of style. We achieve this by showcasing and celebrating the radiant glow that is currently being generated from the vibrant summer ranges, offered by some of the most beautiful boutiques from across our region. The world of fashion and style is undoubtedly renowned for being a constant and ever changing platform. That crucial yet continuous balance of risk and creativity are the precarious pillars on which this beautiful giant so elegantly stands upon. Whilst adhering to a seasonal cycle of bohemian metamorphosis; the art of adaptation, innovation and progression are some of the key elements that contribute to sustaining such an exciting and dynamic industry. Collectively as the city of Hull we are on the very brink of a revolution, as 2017 approaches thicker and faster it is only a matter of time before our seemingly indigenous yet brimming volcano of passion and culture finally blows its load. One of the many hard working advocates consistently representing this ethos are Poorboy Boutique. The creation of Poorboy is a true rags Situated in both Princes Quay to riches tale. By independently sourcing unique Shopping Centre and Newland Avenue, high end pieces from all corners of the globe, bring the customer the gems that they have the creation of Poorboy boutique is a they discovered along the way. There is an interesting true rags to riches tale exploring all quote by the infamous John Fairchild, who once corners of the globe for unique, high defined the meaning of style as “an expression of mixed with charisma. Fashion is end pieces that are a sight to behold. individualism something that comes after style”. These words couldn’t be a more accurate depiction of Poorboy’s current trajectory. They have independently Photography by IDB Photography orchestrated a very particular aesthetic that aptly reflects exactly the type of brand they stand for. Upon an immediate glance of their flagship store based in Princes Quay Shopping Centre, you are instantaneously plunged into their world. Gracefully furnished with a look that can only be described as a beautiful head on collision between nostalgic admiration and contemporary style, they are truly one of a kind. Ranging from antique shop signs hand-picked straight out of Hull’s much loved and eclectic history, to the luminous branding of Poorboy’s modernised shop logo, there couldn’t be a finer setting for a totally unique high street experience. The store itself caters for all types of customer with current summer vintage trends ranging from: Vintage floral, 1970’s (flares, suede, tassel, leather, patchwork), head to toe in white, culottes, kimono style, military/safari, ethnic kaftan - festival wardrobe. One of the most exciting and unique spokes to Poorboy’s illustrious wheel is their offering of the remade collection. The remade collection is where the discovery of unloved and unwanted items found laying dormant in the past are reworked and remastered to bring these timeless pieces crashing into the present, ultimately giving

them a one of a kind modern look. If that’s not impressive enough they also have a smaller boutique based on Newland Avenue, combined with a charmingly quaint concessions store called ‘The Moon on a Stick’ situated on the upper floor selling gifts, cards, furniture and curios. Like any exciting and accelerating brand Poorboy Boutique are continuously placing the foot to the pedal in order to nurture innovation and to further embed themselves into the fabric of our vibrant city. This year alone they have already placed pop up shops at the notorious Glastonbury Festival and will be doing the same at both Hull’s highly anticipated Freedom Festival and The Humber Street Sesh, throughout the upcoming summer months. Not only do these devoted fashonista’s get behind local events but their collaborations with the ever growing creative community is becoming a significant pedestal to elevate the abundance of true talent that we are harbouring within the very frame of the city. Some of their recent collaborations consist of assisting with the promotion and support of local musician Nineties Boy, by providing a platform to stock his merchandise and music within the store. Poorboy are also great supporters of local charities, one in particular being PAUL - My Brain Recovery charity founded by Paul Spence. It was literally only last month that Poorboy assisted Paul on his recent Ibiza Marathon challenge to raise awareness for brain injuries by embarking on four marathons in four days challenge. The PAUL merchandise which includes wristbands and t-shirts are also available to purchase in both Poorboy Boutique stores with all proceeds going towards the My Brain Recovery charity (www.paulmybrainrecovery. co.uk). It seems as though the creative scene in our area is currently growing at a rapid rate and is becoming something to be really proud of. With the influence and nurturing of events such as Hull Fashion Week, Humber Street Sesh and many more we are evidently creating a melting pot of talent, thus allowing our native creative’s to thrive in a city that so desperately requires them. Ultimately it is down to the ongoing support and enthusiasm of local artists, people and businesses. Poorboy’s simple yet highly effective approach to fashion and style is to hunt down the undiscovered yet timeless gems and bring them to a bigger market, yet it’s clear to see that they are applying that essence and ideology not just to the vintage fashion industry but also to the

hard-working and inspirational projects that are born right here, the undiscovered hidden gems. “The older I become the more I realise my success isn’t measured by how far I get, it is simply about having the opportunity to continue to do what I love”.
H
ull’s music scene may well be one of the countries best kept secrets, with a plethora of incredibly talented musicians and a great mix of thriving venues and events, yet it remains reserved and somewhat hidden from the national spotlight. We catch up with Kristian Eastwood, a singer songwriter who has seen the evolution of music in the region from all angles, having experienced over a decade in the local industry. I meet Kristian at Thieving Harry’s, a quirky coffee shop in the heart of the city’s creative district. Located on Humber Street, a long cobbled road that once a year becomes home to one of the regions biggest music festivals Humber Street Sesh. The cafe is idyllically placed between the former Fruit Market and the modern Marina, on what is deemed by many as a cultural meridian line, with the cities creative hub to the left and it’s commercial centre to the right. The perfect place to discuss how the regions music scene is evolving and what it has to offer going forward for local artists like Kristian. “The scene is great around here and has been for sometime, there are some really good bands and top musicians, its just the city doesn’t get the exposure it deserves so a lot goes under the radar”. Kristian clearly has an immense amount of pride in his city and the opportunities that it has given him over the years to perfect his craft. His passion for music began back in secondary school, “I always wanted to sing but was too nervous to stand up in front of other people. It wasn’t until my late teens that I started to become more confident and finally play to an audience, covering swing classics like Mustang Sally and My Way”. After winning a number of local competitions Kristian joined Hull band Mr Mojo who went on to play at Leeds, Reading and Glastonbury festivals. “I was thrown in at the deep end, singing to crowds at the KC stadium at just 19, looking back it was crazy. I didn’t even really know how to play my guitar, some might say that I still don’t”. By 21 Kristian began to pen his own music, which led to success with the band Jokerz before taking on a new project as a Michael Buble tribute act. “The Buble project has been great in allowing me to train my voice and find a way to fund my original work and it has also given me some great visibility in the area”. Kristian now has his eyes firmly set on his new solo project, Eastwood, that is built around the more classic singer songwriter genre, which Kristian feels is where his passion lies. “I have always loved writing songs and the concept of storytelling, whether it is experiences from my own life or that of friends and family, it is a bit of a cathartic process and something that becomes somewhat addictive”. The new venture sees Kristian partner with a number of talented musicians from across the region. “Eastwood is not simply about me, we have a big band format with backing singers, percussion, strings and brass, it really is a team behind the music”. The difficulty for Kristian as with many musicians is the ability to continually fund his passion, with studio fees from upwards of £200 per day and
Issue 006 | LOCO. MAGAZINE | 28
PR campaigns costing in the thousands, many have to work on their music alongside other jobs. “I work with my brother as a landscaper throughout the week, along with the corporate singing on evenings and weekends in order to fund my recording sessions and the printing of CD’s. The truth is it has always been the same, ever since I was a young lad I was always working to buy the equipment, be it guitar strings or plectrums, you just do what you have to do to keep things going”. Whilst Kristian clearly has a great amount of steel and determination, I ask him whether there are times that he ever considers giving up and opting for a different career. “Don’t get me wrong there have been moments where I have sat at home and thought what am I doing but when I feel down about anything I always resort to music. The real learning for me over the past few years has been that success isn’t measured by how far I get, simply having the opportunity to wake up everyday and do what I love is enough for me”. Having released two singles already, ‘Keep it in your pocket’ and ‘I see you’ the mission according to Kristian is to continue to build his following both regionally and nationally through the release of more music. “It is kind of like Handsel and Gretel, you just have to keep dropping the breadcrumbs and hope that people will follow them. I have another single ‘Sofa City’ due for release in August and I will follow that up with an EP, before releasing an album early next year”. Reflecting on the next steps for the music scene in Hull, Kristian notes that it is imperative for artists and bands to build connections across different cities “If the record labels aren’t sending scouts then we will build a fan base ourselves, so they can’t ignore us”. The influence of local festivals such as Freedom Fest and Humber Street Sesh can’t be overlooked, attracting huge attendances, they have become a fantastic stage for showcasing the wide ranging talent that exists in the region. The key according to Kristian is to stay natural and rooted in what you believe in, “A lot of bands are departing their original ideas because they believe there is a gap in the market elsewhere and they think that the only way to succeed in an area like Hull is by doing something different. I know from personal experience as I’ve done it myself but ultimately you always end up coming back to what you love doing, because when times are hard you are always willing to work at something that you are passionate about”. This final quote from Kristian sums up in a snapshot the music scene in Hull. The reason why it remains one of the country’s best kept secrets is that it is seemingly not willing to bend or change to meet the commercial demands of the industry. Instead it is focused on staying true to it’s heritage and believing that talent and passion are the fundamental tools needed to deliver a prosperous future. TASTE THE CUISINE. EMBRACE THE CULTURE. To encourage and support the rebirth of independent eateries in our region, we visit Cafe Amici on Chanterlands Avenue in Hull where passion, purity and perseverance is starting to breed sustained success. Photography by Chelsea Shoesmith

afe culture, a term used to describe the contemporary adoption of Coffee as a social lubricant, has become somewhat blurred and indistinct in recent times. Coined in Eastern Europe over seven centuries ago, the phrase was originally used in reference to the independent coffeehouses of Turkey and Greece, that had evolved into thriving cultural hubs in which local curators and intellectuals chose to congregate. By the mid 18th Century the trend had arrived on the shores of England with artists, writers and socialites drawn to a refreshment revolution that was sweeping through the streets of London. Many of the coffeehouses we visit today continue to take inspiration from these original establishments, with tastefully decorated interiors, characterful paintings and antiquated furnishings. Unfortunately due to the explosion of the economical espresso, many of these quaint and quirky cafes have been wiped from our high streets and replaced by the uniform commercial coffee giants, serving fast Frappes and packaged Paninis. As a result we are now left with just a mere handful of true independents, each of which are now furiously attempting to battle a tidal wave of competition, in order to rise to the top and prove that great coffee, fresh food and an inventive atmosphere are the foremost foundations of our culture and heritage. Situated on Chanterlands Avenue in Hull, Amici takes it’s inspiration from the Cafes of Italy, with the smell of freshly baked bread shadowing the bold scent of roasted coffee beans. The décor is simple and understated, with an open plan layout that leads you through to a beautiful garden terrace, where you can sit and enjoy a glass or two in the sun. The art of Amici lies in its flexibility, it is there to meet the needs of its customers no matter what time of day, without sacrificing on quality. Whether you fancy Pizza, Pasta, Coffee or Wine the kitchen and bar are always open and ready to serve. Amici also has a dedicated evening menu that includes a delectable range of fish and meat dishes, alongside its classic italian pastas. Head Chef Nico who has previously worked for a host of well known eateries in the area including Rolando’s in Beverley, has over the last 20 years built up a fantastic reputation for his classic continental cuisine. He believes the art of good food is in sourcing great components and keeping the process of cooking as simple as possible, “I have always felt that the fresher the food the fuller the flavour. There is no need to create over complex dishes, Italian cuisine is all about basic but beautiful food”. The highlight of historic cultural cafes were their ability to create a vibrant and friendly atmosphere that would always bring people back for more. The same can be said for Amici; Nico and his team have heaps of enthusiasm and spirit and are constantly ensuring that their customers are happy and well catered for. It is wonderful to see such a vibrant and passionate group of people, led by such a talented and entertaining chef at the forefront of the battle to bring quality independent cafes back to the heart of our region. SUMMER STRAWBERRY
CHEESECAKE Description:
Ingredients:
Cheesecake has always been a go to dessert for my family whenever a BBQ was involved. In previous years not many people got past my auntie and me for a slice, we have a reputation of managing a full cake between us (no need for plates, forks at the ready). As of late I have become one of those annoying health conscious types, you know the ones who don’t eat sugar, gluten, dairy, and may as well become fully vegan! What do they eat? Probably loads of kale. Despite my diet choices, you probably wont meet many that could match my appetite, who knew there’s actually a load of food out there to eat that doesn’t involve anything processed?! Here is my creamy berry cheesecake alternative. Not only does it taste delicious and have no sugar, dairy or gluten in it, but it also includes all of the healthy fats you could want, ideal for BBQ and bikini weather!
Base, 200g ground almonds, 200g dates, 100g oats , 2tbsp. honey, 4 tbsp almond milk.
Issue 006 | LOCO. MAGAZINE | 32

Filling: 200g cashews, 50ml water, 200g avocado, 2 tbsp. honey, 200g strawberries, 100g dates. Soak the cashews in water for 3 hours or more. Drain the cashews and add with the rest of the ingredients into a food processor until the mixture is combined and creamy. Poor onto the base, (let the base cool down first if you have baked it), and set in the fridge overnight. Topping: 100g strawberries, 100g blueberries. These can be placed on top or blended and poured on as a sauce.

REPERTORY SCORES ON THE YORKSHIRE COAST The Spa Bridlington launches its third Musical Repertory Season in the middle of July; consisting of three weekly shows taking place in three East Riding based venues over an eight week period. so far. The cast includes Andrea Miller; a mature actress approaching 70 years old, whose credits include the classic BBC post-apocalyptic drama Day of the Triffids. Accompanying her is Sarah Francis; who appeared in the BBCs Festival of Remembrance in 2013 and Cameron Leigh, a west-end stalwart who has appeared in many productions in the west end including Chicago, Charlotte’s Web, Cats and Joseph. Alan Richardson and Dale Page return with their incredible counter-tenor voices and comedy timing. Previous audience members will recall Alan as a lobster and a meringuefrocked bride! The show’s band consists of five talented musicians playing a range of different instruments including piano, string, woodwind, brass and percussion. There will even be a xylophone and glockenspiel. In addition, there will be a performance in promenade of a Cole Porter-themed show called Pass the Porter, being performed on Tuesday and Friday early evenings at Sewerby Hall and Gardens and on Saturday early evenings at Burton Constable Hall. Andrew Aldis added, “If you want to experience the most professional new theatre production in the East Riding then pop a visit to The Spa Bridlington into your summer diary.” The Spa Bridlington repertory season runs from Wednesday 15 July to Saturday 5 September. %XUWRQ &RQVWDEOH

There was a time when every theatre in the country had repertory; with resident performers entertaining audiences with different performances every week. It was how many British film actors and actresses learned their trade and grew their reputation. Repertory is just one of great things from the past being pioneered for the future by The Spa Bridlington. Previous audience members have been staggered by the quality and originality produced. Andrew Aldis, general manager and producer of the season said “It’s a far cry from the cheesy, seaside variety shows of the past and sets Bridlington apart from other resorts in producing high quality theatre experiences with bespoke-arrangements, live band and London-sourced performers. “Add to this the use of local couture talent in costume design and production, local band members and a theme running throughout, it makes for a night out at the theatre more akin with a visit to a major city than a coastal town in Yorkshire.” This year’s lead production is Fables and Fairy Tales. Set in a derelict, stately home library, the show takes the audience to both dark and comedic worlds in musical theatre style. From Pinocchio telling fibs and the three pigs as maids to the newly commissioned tale of the Giant Lobster of Bridlington; the show is a mix suitable for all ages and is, without doubt, the team’s most epic creation

“THE KITCHEN OF MY DREAMS” One of the most style conscious and innovative kitchen retailers, Wren Kitchens talk all about first class customer experience and their brand new Hull Flagship Showroom coming this August
G
eorgie visited Wren Kitchens’ Staples Corner, London showroom after coming across their company as she was just moving into her new house. Georgie had a clear vision of her kitchen, style, design and colour of units due to her doing some research about Wren before going into the showroom. She had a clear understanding of how she wanted the kitchen to look and work for her family and day to day activities. As a style conscious, young family, Georgie wanted a kitchen that would work for her not only practically, but socially and aesthetically as well! She achieved this by working with Wren to create an open plan kitchen, perfect for entertaining. Wren worked with her by piecing all of the elements of dream design on their state-of-the-art CAD system and within a few hours, Georgie had an amazing Handleless Cashmere Gloss kitchen with cool, white Corian worktops. She also ordered all of her appliances through Wren, opting for top of the range Neff in a sophisticated stainless steel finish. Georgie made a few amendments to the design until she was satisfied with the final plans. Her designer, Femi, made an arrangement for a ‘check measure’ at her property to go through any questions she may have had and also check that all her units and products would fit according to the plan. Once her kitchen was delivered and installed, Georgie knew that she had stumbled onto a winner with Wren. Her newly extended kitchen living space looks fabulous and Georgie couldn’t have been happier with the quality and look of her kitchen in her new home. Georgie Coleridge Cole: “Wren’s Handleless Cashmere Gloss has lived up to expectations - in short, it’s the kitchen of my dreams!” Handleless Cashmere Gloss
