The concept I have decided to create is an information packet to aid the audience through the considerations that need to be thought about when designing for print. The main focus is on the printing processes, with supporting media in the areas of Format, Colour, Stock & Book Binding. These will be covered in a variety of different printed materials.
The information pack is intended for young designers who are just starting out with their exploration in designing for print and looking for a clear and concise guide into the different production methods as well as all the considerations to inform the way they create and finish off their designs.
Design Choices
The main focus of this information pack is the printing processes, so these will be in a flowchart form at a scale of A2. The supporting media will be in smaller formats through a series of booklets, fold outs & packaged content, which will support what will be said on the posters, but also give more information.
In reality these outcomes would be placed in the situation where they are suited to, so because of this, I have chosen to go with black ink on yellow stock. This will make it stand out in the room against whatever posters/items might be on the wall. For the typefaces I chose two bold ones, but for the body copy I went for a much softer one so it wouldn’t be as blunt as the headings.
As the pack is for young designers, the tone of voice needs to be friendly, but to the point. The terminology used must be understood easily and it must all read well as the content will be key to their final designs.

OUGD504 - Studio Brief 1: What Is Design For Print?
Research Research for this brief consisted of a large amount of primary and secondary research into the six areas of print. For secondary research I looked into all considerations for hand & digital printing. Following this I carried out a number of different printing processes for
primary research. I did a laser cutting induction and a book binding induction, and experimented in the print room, doing screen printing in various inks, including metallic and fluorescent inks. I also worked with spot varnishing, foiling and flocking.
