GROTTA AZZURRA

Grotta Azzurra/ Blue Grotto experience is a very special natural journey. // It is caused by the seawater erosion. Bcause of the degree of erosion of different substances in the rock through the seawater, the rock turned to a cave at sea. // When you go inside, you will see the blue light full upon the cave . With this blue light, you can recognize the space and environment. Even you MIGHT be misdirected by it.

At the biginning, entering a fairly narrow sea cave entrance, we can not see anything at the moment. After entering the interior, the space turns BRIGHT bacause of the blue light. And when we see the water the blue light come out and FLASH. Then, we see the dome of the cave, the blue light REFLECTs the color of rock. \\ This is the interested phenomenon. These all imaging combined together and coimaging to your eyes are all impacted by the environmental elements. Such as, the flash is influenced by the rock or fish at the seathe color is changed by the rock. Even, the depth effect the imaging displaying. Therefore, I tried to figure out how the light & imaging working in this phenomenon.

First, the light comes from outside through the water below the entrance, so the light has to be refracted and reflected by the elements in the water, like fish. \ Then, some of the light turn blue and come out from the sea surface ; some is reflected into the water again. Later, when the blue light meets the rocks, the light reflect the rock’s texture turnning green. \ Eventually, when you go into the cave, you will see these all light and imaging co-imaging on the water-surface. Otherwise, the place you are and the moment you stay will also change what you see in the Blue Cave because the angle between the sunlight and the sea surface is different in each moment.

Therefore, I found that the light in the cave is the messenger between human beings’ eyes and environmental elements. Because on the way to passing the light, it must be Misdirected or Changed by the environment.

LIGHT/IMAGING

. Light & Imaging Experiment . Medium : water . CO-imaging Experiment . Lightening Opera

LIGHT & IMAGING Experiment/ I tried to think about houw to change and control the light & imaging. Thus, I try to use the Optical Principle to reform the imaging.

/ pinhole & mirror experiment design

1.BASIS

By principle of "pinhole imaging" and "periscope", increasing the distance traveled by light to magnify the image.

2.Control: REFLECTION

Different angles control the size of imaging.

3.Control: MEDIUM

Different media has each refration and change the size of imaging.

/06

Medium : water/ After the light & imaging experiment, I found that the medium is the most important element to change the final imaging. Therefore, I start to try how do the medium: water work and change the imaging...

07\

1.MEDIUM

By principle of "pinhole imaging" and "periscope", increasing the distance traveled by light to magnify the image.

2.PROJECTION

Because of Tyndall Effect, the imaging could be projected on floating water.

3.PREDICTION

With vision, human beings’ eyes could predict the size of stuffs.

4.COLOR

The color of Medium filter the light imaging.

a. LIGHT MIXING

c. PINHOLE IMAGING MIXING (SAME LENGTH)

When the differnt colors light merged together, the color will some turn whight and some keep each color. Furthermore, people on different sides will feel more imaging from the other side.

Different colors imagings merged together could let people feel these two pinhole imagings.

b. PINHOLE IMAGING & NATURAL LIGHT MIXING

d. PINHOLE IMAGING MIXING (DIFFERENT ANGLE)

By "pinhole imaging" ,the imaging on the water will be also merged the texture of media. Therfore, people could feel the media and imaging at the same time.

Different from the upper, the angle will change the range of imaging displayed on the water.

CO-Imaging Experiment/ After the light & imaging experiment and medium test, I know that the imaging in the water could be reformed by the medium ‘s texture and the elements on the light path. Thus, I tried to combine these two experiment together to study how do the imaging display and mix together ....

MIXING (SAME LENGTH) LIGHT MIXING

Co-Imaging Lightening Opera House/ With the following experiments I found the controlling machanism of light & imaging. Then, I bigin to think about mixing them together. So, I tried to use three parts of machanics to interprete the three kinds of change of light. / The mirror change the size of imaging, the medium change the color and the texture of imaging, the length between light and pinhole change the distance. / So, people between up and bottom parts they receive the message from the 3 parts of machine. And, the machines are reflecting the many environmental elements at the moment. But, people just know this imaging to read the message to understand the environment.

c. Distance

a. Location / Size The angle of mirror could change the location and imaging's size.

b. Color The pinhole’s size could change the amount of light.

c. Distance Changing the length between light source and pinhole could let the imaging have different distance.

ENVIRONMENT

SPACE

Indigo Dyeing needs a specific environment. \ First, the environment has to be moist, because the plants need the wetter place to grow up. \ Second, the environmrnt must be so close to the clear water, that the INDIGO could be attached on the cloth.

Indigo Dyeing has many steps to colour on the cloth. Otherwise, the water at each step has each own type. \ Like below, when people are soaking the indigo plants, the water will turn blue and yellow precipitation will stay at the boottom. Thus, the light will be coloured and reflect the environmental message into the space to let people know .

a. Soaking

b. Dyeing

c. Purge

d. Sun

Soaking let the Blue out from plants, so the color will turn deep. Stirring let the water's texture change.

When the mud come out, the blue will stay upper in water. And, let the light's reflection come different color.

When the clothes purged, they’re like the flexible container to change space message.

The hanging cloth let people see the overlaying image, such as nature light, the blue on the cloth and the density of clothes.

site : SANXIA/ Sanxia is one of the historical place in Taiwan. It is the upper reaches of Tamsui River and at the three rivers meeting place. Thus, the place was prosperous in the past. Because of environment, Sanxia has developed many kinds of business, such as Blue Dyeing.

\\ Indigo Dyeing is the most important culture to Sanxia's people. Even we could say that blue dyeing sybolizes their spirit. \\ In the past, people working the Indigo Dyeing Business divided the house to upper living space and lower working space. Thus, they could work in the small street house.

Dyeing Opera House/ Sanxia Old Street is near the river, but you do not know that on the old street. Then, Indigo Dyeing is one of traditional cultural work here. In the past, people relied on the river to cleaning and dyeing their cloth, so we can image what a great connection between the river and life at that time. Thus, I want to use the house to open the path to the river and to experience the traditional culture. // Dyeing opera house mixes the work space and tourist gallery. The upper floor is belong the work space, and the bottom is the tourist dyeing gallery which let people experience the specific dyeing and local culture.

27\

// I prefer to use the light to reflect the dyeing work to 1F tourist space. Because each work space has each own special to change the light to impact the tourists, when they pass here to the river they will recognize the space and Indigo Dyeing by the light and co-imaging message.
