A
s the last of the winter snow has melted away, springtime is finally upon us. Which means it’s time for 2018’s 2nd Issue of LondonLux! It’s a first for us as this time around we are doing a dual front cover! Featuring the future of cryptocurrency, DasCoin by Netleaders, on one cover, and Hollywood leading man Gerard Butler on the other. We have a whole host of some of London’s most luxurious products showcased in this issue, including the fantastic Lucio Wall Lamp, the glittering jewellery of Elizabeth Gage MBE, and the arresting centrepieces of Sir William Bentley Billiards. Sculpting the world of Fine Jewellery Elizabeth Gage MBE

Bianca Turner was born in an ancient city of Alba-Iulia,

The very first piece that started her long and relationship with art was a painting by her father that hung in her childhood room. Bianca was told what to think, what not to paint, and what to wear in school and in public, it was a labyrinth of fear, and she had to tread lightly. The living conditions in Communist Romania were dire, with basic necessities like electricity could cut out at any moment. This meant that Bianca was forced to do her homework for school by candlelight during the short days of winter. She would patiently wait for the longer days of summer to arrive so she could freely paint at home. Unfortunately, though all of her early pieces were destroyed. The soulcrushing fear of the regime overtook her will to paint freely and exhibit art to the public that might be considered offensive to the resident Communist Party, who were known for putting freethinkers away in concentration camps, for re-education. Bianca says that as she paints, it represents her imagination as it crosses into another dimension. You can clearly see this in her Universe collection. Pieces like Gestation and Metamorphosis have an other-worldly ambience about them, they are made from a rich assortment of vibrant colours that blend into one another in a hallucinatory fashion. Painting is also therapeutic for Bianca who has been diagnosed for several years with fibromyalgia.

Bianca’s future projects this year include the participation of her artwork at New York Art Expo, at Cannes Film Festival Art Show, two exhibitions in London and a group exhibition at Amsterdam Whitney Gallery, in New York City. At the beginning of the year Bianca received the Woman in Art Award for 2018 which will be celebrated with an art exhibition in Madrid, and she also is one of the nominees for the 2018 Palm Art Award.

Laurie Raskin Mixed Media Printmaker Collage Artist How many years must you toil before you’re considered an artist? Laurie Raskin believes that she has always been one. She has always been drawn to the hypnotic delights of the visual world, taking art classes as a child and until she was able to go to art school. Whilst attending the California Institute of the Arts, she was exposed to Bauhaus, Russian Constructivism and other great art movements of the 20th century, whose influences can be seen in her work. After graduating receiving both a BFA and an MFA, she started work as a graphic designer before she began working in the field of design and architecture in the early 80’s. In 1984, she was selected as one of 12 artists to do one of the official signature series posters for the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. She then continued onwards to have a successful career as an Interior Designer for a quarter of a century, before the alluring siren song of creation began to call. In the beginning of 2008, it dawned on her how much she missed creating pure, undiluted art, and has been creating ever since. Laurie Raskin is now based in Los Angeles and creates a wide variety of mixed media works on paper using collage, inks, paint, and printmaking. Since re-entering the world of art, her works

Laurie uses her own photographs and her extensive collection of vintage magazines, postcards and books as her primary muse. From these, she designs mixed media monoprints that she then colours in by hand and occasionally uses in other collages. Laurie also has an affection for the Southern California in the 1960‘s and she continually references that period. Intersection Red Heart and Mass Transit take the winding spaghetti junctions of Los Angeles and tessellates them to make them seem like an industrial vascular system, the life force of the city that made her the artist she is today. Her love of mid-century modernism, pop culture and designs that idolise the future, also feature heavily in her art. Her Dreamers series portrays a couple in the 50’s, sprawled out on a bed. With each painting in the series, the couple moves further apart and the colours used become more contrasting. The phrase We Promise You’ll Find Your Dreams portrays the sentiments of the era, as the conflict was over and America entered another prosperous era, there was also the ever impending threat of nuclear war. Her pieces also display a journey through her personal history. Her graphic designing past has worked its way into the DNA of her art, and you can see this in her calculated and precisionist method to using negative space.

COSY LOUNGE ATMOSPHERE WITH LUCIO WALL LAMP
Siggi Anton comes from Iceland, a land of total contrasts. In the summer, it is constantly light, in winter, there is almost 24 hours of dusk. But come night time in Iceland, unparalleled beauty soon follows. After the sun has gone down, the multi-coloured light show of the Aurora borealis dances across the sky. After this psychedelic show, comes the soothing calm of cold moonlit nights, where the light bounces off of the snow to make the ground seem like it was forged from silver. Being in love with the country he is from, Siggi wondered how to move these beautiful experiences inside the home.
Taking inspiration from the vast array of lights experienced in his home country, Siggi designed the Lucio Wall Lamp. A meticulous blend of contemporary and classic design, it consists of 12 mirrors which are mounted upon a black frame with LED light installed within it. Whilst the mirrors act as a canvas for the surroundings, the frame will help whichever room it is placed in transition from day to night with its calm and comforting glow. It also acts as a nightlight, as both adults and children both yearn for a few dim lights around if they need to get out of bed in the dead of night. Siggi sees the Lucio: ‘connecting rooms, transmitting light whether day or night, and offering a new experience every day, in different seasons and weather conditions, and in all kinds of spaces, from all kinds of angles. I like it particularly at sunset, witnessing the rays of sunlight playing around in the room, and then all of a sudden realising that the piece on the wall is like an eclipse, a silhouette reflecting
the cosy atmosphere of the dimly lit living room I’m sitting in.’ ‘Art must be organic, design must be practical.’ says Siggi. ‘With this piece, I strove to create a balance: between art and design, between modern and classical.’ Though it is both modern and asymmetrical, the Lucio blends perfectly into every room. Its individual form has sparked much discussion. An owner of a Lucio once told Siggi that the piece’s design reminded him of water puddles on an Icelandic beach’s black, volcanic sands. Owners of the Lucio describe the piece as timeless, a family heirloom that would accompany them no matter where they moved to. Where most other furniture comes and goes, the Lucio will always keep its place, due to its diversity. You would be hard pressed to find another decorative piece of furniture that could fit in amongst interior design both old and new.
