In late afternoon of Thursday on October 16, 2014, temperatures began to drop in Chiang Mai. Food supply and condiments in my kitchen did the disappearing act from their usual shelves. So today, I and my husband of the Kamikate family will take you on a stroll to shop at our favorite supermarket in the heart of Chiang Mai city. We have been living in Chiang Mai for the past 8 years. We love to walk to many places in town because the mild weather here is perfect for walking. Our walk is much like a rejuvenating body exercise. We walk about 2 hours from our apartment in Fah Ham to Rimping Supermarket branch in Maya Department store in Nimmanhemin road area. We usually buy things at Rimping Supermarket because there are many imported products from Japan; vegetables, fruits, and also fresh and dry food. It’s like we are shopping at the supermarket in Japan. The important feature is their service; the product tags are printed in Japanese language together with Thai and English, and some staff can speak Japanese; it is wonderful, isn’t it? We really love to shop here.

Today, we bought HARUKA brand Japanese rice, Ramen, Chow Mein (kind of noodle for fried purpose), Meiji brand fresh milk and yogurt, tofu, condiments, juice, Mirin, soy sauce, Miso, coffee, fish sauce, milk powder, butter, cheese, tissue papers, detergent and soap. At Rimping Supermarket, there are also many organic fresh vegetable to choose from and I never forget to pick up some carrots and Burdock Root. Moreover, there is Daiso shop—an imported product shop branch from Japan—also provided in this department store.

We normally shop at Rimping Supermarket twice a month. Today we bought full of cart and paid 1,300 baht which we think is a reasonable price.

I gazed out of the big window in time to see the sun leave the sky. We walked out and took a red taxi, “Rod See Lor Dang”, in front of the department store.

The supermarket is about 10 kilometers far from our residence and the transportation cost us about 40-50 baht.

Tomorrow we will sip fresh brew coffee on our balcony enjoying the ambience of the morning’s refreshing breeze. We really appreciate the happy life we have in Chiang Mai city.

1 Mexican Sunflower field on Doi Mae Ukor1 During November – December, Mexican Sunflowers on Doi Mae Ukor will bloom and magnificently cover Mae Ukor Mountain with golden flowers like a Monet painting. During other periods of the year, the greenery view which covers the entire mountain is another impressive site to see.

Tor Pae Temple2 The old Myanmar style temple showcases the exquisitely built big Buddha hall. Inside the hall is a resting place for an ancient monk throne and a 150-years-old Myanmar velvet curtain which was decorated with 164 precious stones of crystals, pearls and rubies. It vividly tells one episode of the Lord Buddha’s legend describing his holy trip into the forest of Vessantara (name of the Buddha in his tenth existence). The temple also has a Mon (TibetMyanmar) style pagoda and an impressive scenic tourist attraction surrounded by boundless green rice field as far as the eyes can see.

Thai – Japanese Monument3 This prominent place is an authentic geographic location exhibiting the infamous World War II history while simultaneously representing a strong connection between Khun Yuam’s villagers and Japanese soldiers. Many historical pictures and war relics are on display for all visitors to see.

More than 400 golfers celebrated their victory at Nongnuch Garden gala dinner in cowboy style like Saturday Night Fever happily participated by 6 delegates from 6 countries including Japan, Korea, China, Vietnam and Malaysia For Thailand, International Caddie Championship was played in stormy weather which made the game so difficult to predict who would win the game. We managed to finish 18 holes with a gala dinner and everyone had their best time ever.

Pattaya golf events have provided strong support for golf and tourism which is growing stronger every year.

【紹介】白亜の仏塔、ウボソット、およびランナー様式 とビルマ様式の2棟の本堂がある。 (1) 仏塔：建立時期不明のオリジナルの仏塔を覆う形 で、19世紀末に白亜の巨大なビルマ様式の仏塔が建立 された。美しい仏塔で、南北にあるスンに立仏像を安置 している。仏塔には繊細な漆喰の浮彫細工が施されて おり、ビルマ様式の守護獅子で囲まれている。 (2) ウボソット：典型的なランナー様式の堂で、古いも のを修復する形で1930年に建立された。 (3) 本堂：ランナー様式とビルマ様式の2棟の本堂があ る。資料により建立年が異なるが、情報を考え合わせる と、ビルマ様 式の本堂の方が 古く19世紀前半、ターペー路 のそばのランナー様式の本堂 は19世紀後半の建立と思われ る。ランナー様 式の本堂には 壁画がある。有名な本尊Phra Chao Toを安置する大きなビ ルマ様式の本堂は常に閉鎖さ れている。 【概要】 ビルマ様式の溢れる 寺であるが建立時期などははっ きりしない。すなわち、チェンマ イ大やTATを含む数十報の資 料を検討したが、資料間の齟齬 は大きい。これは16世紀半ばか ら200年にわたるビルマによる 支配の間にビルマの寺となり、 資料も散逸してしまったためで ある。二棟の本堂の一つは馴染 みのない様式で、有名な大仏像 が安置されている。寺には10年 ちかく通っているがこの本堂が 開いていたことはない。昨年、 住職が逝去され、新任の住職 が赴任されたが、葬儀はまだ先 のことだという。

Behavior: A species of birds in the Trogonidae family, it is the size equivalent to the pigeons with a total length of 34cm. The male has a cardinal red head and underparts with brownish upperparts and black wing-coverts with thin white strips. The female has a brown head, breast and terracotta wings. The birds are distributed in the forest 2,590m. above sea level in southern China, Indochina, Sumatra from northern India and the evergreen forests with mountains above sea level of 700m or more.

Living in the middle of the forest in pairs or alone, this specie’s food is mainly insects. It will quickly jump from perch to perch when it finds its prey. This beautiful Trogon has an amazing effect of concealing coloration excellent for hiding with shadows in the forest. During the breeding season in March-July, the birds will nest in tree cavity or old Woodpecker nest deep in the forest or sometimes near streams. Clutch size 2-4 eggs.

Bird’s voice: cry when protecting their territory, a deep voice cry of “taup taup taup ...” can be heard.

キヌバネドリ目のアジアキヌバネドリに属する鳥で、全長３４ｃｍとハト と同等の大きさです。柔らかく密生した金属光沢のある羽毛をもってい ます。オスの頭と胸は暗赤色、背はにぶい黄褐色、尾羽は褐色と非常に 美しい羽装をしています。インド北部から中国南部、インドシナ、スマト ラ島の海抜2,590ｍまでの森林に分布し、タイでは通常は海抜700ｍ 以上の山地の常緑樹林、混交樹林で見かける留鳥です。タイには６種類 のキヌバネドリが生息しています。 単独かペアで森林の中層から上層で生活し、餌は主に昆虫です。 獲物を見つけると止まり木から素早く飛びかかって捕らえます。樹上性 で地上に降りることはほとんどありません。美しい羽装は森林の中で はすぐれた隠ぺい色の効果をもっていて、影の多い枝に止まっていると 人目につきません。テリトリーを守るとき、雄は太い声が次第に低くな る“taup taup taup…”の鳴き声をたてます。繁殖期は３月－７月で、樹 洞やキツツキの古い巣穴に営巣します。また生息地に入ってきた侵入者 （バード・ウォッチャー）に背を向けて、肩越しに観察するという興味深 い習性があります。
