Leveling the Playing Field

usinesses of all sizes are realizing Social Media is not going away. Social media marketing is fast becoming a cornerstone to any successful marketing campaign. You simply can't ignore the power of FaceBook (500 Million users), Twitter (over 50 Million Tweets/day), LinkedIn (over 60 Kelly Hall Million users). Chamber President Internet users worldwide spend over 110 BILLION minutes on social networks & blogs. Social media has definitely impacted the way customers do business and has allowed many small businesses a new platform to showcase their goods and services to potential new customers from across the world!

ARE YOU TAKING ADVANTAGE OF SOCIAL MEDIA? All industry sectors are now at the table ‌ are you? Getting focused on social media can be overwhelming. But unlike any other type of marketing, social marketing is the only one that you can get personal and engage your audience in real time...just as brick and mortar businesses do every time someone walks through their doors...but the social media showroom is full of millions of potential customers from around the world according to Ron Richardson, the CEO of Social Media Management Experts. Social networking is allowing the little guys to compete with the big players in any niche market. In fact these small businesses are not only competing, but a lot of the times they are winning in these large markets. By allowing them to build a relationship with their customers and potential customers, they are able to gain their trust and confidence, as well as becoming a known and recognized expert in their niche market.

RELATIONSHIP BUILDING Social media is also allowing businesses to gain customer confidence by developing online relationships through LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flicker, Blogging, etc. CMB Consumer Pulse recently reported customers are turning to Facebook and Twitter to gain more information about the company, their customers, and their products. Two key questions were asked of consumers: 1) Are you more likely to buy since becoming a fan/follower? 2) Are you more likely to recommend since becoming a fan/follower?

Longview Chamber Go Green Team Takes Over Launches My Chamber App Longview Schools

I

n the summer of 2010, Keep Longview Beautiful’s Go Green Committee had an idea to partner with one area school campus to do a few recycling drives. The word got out and that one campus quickly turned in to seven. Now with help from Stragent Foundation, campuses at Longview ISD, Pine Tree ISD and Spring Hill ISD have formed one Go Green Team. The team of students participate in three recycling programs for the remainder of the current school year. Students will have the opportunity to recycle aluminum cans, paper and electronics. They can even bring these items from home. Keep Longview Beautiful hopes the program will help students develop lifelong recycling habits. Who keeps Longview beautiful? We ALL do! 6 January/February

FIGP Applications Available

he hugely popular façade improvement grants that have been available through the Longview Main Street Office for the last two years are available now for 2011. A key element to the design-planning component of a revitalization effort is the return of business activity to the commercial district in

downtown Longview. Fresh paint, new awnings, or

complete facade rehabilitation have been

signs that something positive is happening. These first steps can be the spark to ignite interest and spur new commercial excitement. The Façade Improvement Grant Program (FIGP) provides a catalyst

for these first steps. One Hundred Acres of Heritage Main Street provides money through this grant process to commercial property

owners or business owners (with property owner approval) to encourage restoration projects of building facades and to enhance the building’s overall exterior appearance. The grants are funded by the City of Longview Community Development using Community Development Block Grant money. The money is from federal funds made possible through Development (HUD).
