“T
2011 Salute to Healthcare
hank you.” In an emergency,
whether minor or critical, our focus is on the patient and ailment that sent them to the health care facility in the first place. We often forget
to thank the healthcare professionals who provided the care our loved ones desperately needed. The Longview Chamber of Commerce seeks to say those two simple words, “thank you,” to all of the men and women who make up the healthcare profession in Gregg County. The Salute to Healthcare awards luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, at Pinecrest Country Club. While we
Y
salute the entire healthcare community, our focus will be on three special
individuals. These individuals have been nominated by their peers, patients, and family. A nominating
committee then narrowed the competition down to three in each category of Healthcare Professional, Volunteer, and the Dr. Sam Mack Lifetime Achievement Award. The chamber
membership then voted on the final selections. Please join us as we celebrate their remarkable accomplisments and
contributions to our community. Call 903237-4000 to make your reservations today.
Working On Your Behalf
ou want The Longview Chamber of Commerce to represent your interests with government - that sentiment was expressed several times during a recent membership survey. We know that more and more the business of government is having an affect on your bottom line. We also realize that you don’t always have the time to monitor the legislative activities. The Longview Chamber of Commerce is your voice with government. The business advocacy committee is busy working to ensure you are kept informed on the latest issues coming out of Washington and Austin. We also are working to give you more of a
voice in 2011 than ever before. We will continue to utilize www.longviewvotes.com as well as send out timely advocacy e-news alerts and surveys. This year, our Business Advocacy Committee is working to bring you live and skype town hall meetings with our representatives in Washington as well as more candidate forums. In 2011, you’ll have more access to legislative information and more access to your representatives than ever before. Representing the interest of business is
job #1 for the Longview Chamber of Commerce.

CVB Travels Southwest to Austin Showcase
T
he Convention & Visitors Bureau and Maude Cobb Convention Center recently partnered to represent Longview at Southwest Showcase on Thursday, January 27. Southwest Showcase, annually held in Austin, is the premier event for those in meetings, education and exhibits. The event offers CEOs, meeting planners, education directors, exhibit managers and communication/ marketing staff targeted education in the morning and the opportunity to take care of all business needs at a sold-out trade show in the afternoon. Attendees are eligible to earn three points toward the CAE (Certified Association Executive) designation or re-certification and/or three hours towards the CMP (Certified Meeting Professional) designation.
Cindy Smith, event director at Maude Cobb, and Elena Guilbeau, Convention Sales manager with the CVB, attended the breakout session titled “The New Abnormal.” This session focused on gaining an understanding of negotiating in these uncertain economic times. “The education at Southwest Showcase was excellent,” Giulbeau said. “We discussed the economic meltdown, recovery and revenue projections. This training will help us to offer the best opportunities to meeting planners whose projects fit the Longview market, as well as share the information with our local hoteliers and service providers.” Southwest Showcase is presented by the Texas Society of Association Executives and Meeting Professionals International.
