After earning her PhD with research designated as “transformative” by the National Science Foundation, Dr. Rebecca Heiss went on to hold multiple appointments in academia, applying her research to solve practical problems in overcoming what she refers to as “biological ghosts” - subconscious behaviors that haunt modern life. She founded a stress hormone consultation company, Biologic Balance, and is currently launching a new selfawareness, 360-review app, called Icueity, to help every individual reach her/his full potential. She has been honored to speak internationally on her work, including multiple TEDx talks, and has found her calling in helping others recognize the power of biological applications in their lives. Shape Your Future! The 2020 Census Your response matters. Count Once, Only Once, and in the Right Place. Over the decades, there has been a decline in response across the country. Volunteers are working hard to increase the response rate in order that our area receives the benefits and adherence to policies and regulations.
Why participate in the Census? The census can shape many different aspects of your community. Things like Health Clinics, Fire Departments, Schools, even Roads and Highways. Census results help determine how billions of dollars in federal funding flow into states and communities each year. The results determine how many seats in Congress each state gets. It’s mandated by the U.S. Constitution in Article 1, Section 2: The U.S. has counted its population every 10 years since 1790. LINK TO PSA VIDEO
How it helps
Impact in Your Community A new school to ease overcrowded classrooms. A new road to ease overcrowded commutes. There are many ways the 2020 Census can shape your community. The results, collected once a decade, help determine how billions of dollars in federal funding flow into states and communities each year. [ LINK FOR MORE INFORMATION ] This data can also be used: • to enforce laws, regulations, and policies against discrimination. • plan and fund government programs that support specific age groups, including children and older adults. • data helps federal agencies monitor compliance with anti-discrimination provisions, such as those in the Voting Rights Act and the Civil Rights Act.
Ways To Respond
There are three ways to respond to the 2020 Census. By April 1, 2020, every home will receive an invitation to participate in the 2020 Census. You will have three options for responding: • Online. • By phone. • By mail. The 2020 Census marks the first time you’ll have the option to respond online. You can even respond on your mobile device.
Your privacy matters
Every employee takes an oath to protect your personal information for life. When you respond to the census, your answers are kept anonymous. They are used only to produce statistics. The U.S. Census Bureau is bound by law to protect your answers and keep them strictly confidential. The law ensures that your private information is never published and that your answers cannot be used against you by any government agency or court. [ LINK FOR INFORMATION IN SPANISH ]
Questions Asked
The 2020 Census is easy. The questions are simple. As required by the Census Act, the U.S. Census Bureau submitted a list of questions to Congress on March 29, 2018. Based on those questions, the 2020 Census will ask: • How many people are living or staying at your home on April 1, 2020. This will help us count the entire U.S. population and ensure that we count people according to where they live on Census Day. • Whether the home is owned or rented. This will help us produce statistics about homeownership and renting. The rates of homeownership serve as one indicator of the nation’s economy. They also help in administering housing programs and informing planning decisions. • About the sex of each person in your home. This allows us to create statistics about males and females, which can be used in planning and funding government programs. This data can also be used to enforce laws, regulations, and policies against discrimination. • About the age of each person in your home. The U.S. Census Bureau creates statistics to better understand the size and characteristics of different age groups. Agencies use this data to plan and fund government programs that support specific age groups, including children and older adults. • About the race of each person in your home. This allows us to create statistics about race and to provide other statistics by racial groups. This data helps federal agencies monitor compliance with anti-discrimination provisions, such as those in the Voting Rights Act and the Civil Rights Act. • About whether a person in your home is of Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish origin. These responses help create statistics about this ethnic group. This is needed by federal agencies to monitor compliance with antidiscrimination provisions, such as those in the Voting Rights Act and the Civil Rights Act. • About the relationship of each person in your home. This allows the Census Bureau to create estimates about families, households, and other groups. Relationship data is used in planning and funding government programs that support families, including people raising children alone. Governments, businesses, communities, and nonprofits all rely on the data that these questions produce to make critical decisions. Help your community receive fair representation, funding and policy by responding to the Census!
How can Businesses help?
Become a U.S. Census Bureau Partner: census.gov/partners Join the National Business Network for an Accurate Census: strongnation.org/census. Encourage your employees to participate in the Census. Time line: • Mid-March households will receive a census package in the mail instructing them to complete the form online. • Messages to employees, customers, and the public, encouraging them to complete the Census questionnaire. • If there is no response by mid-April, a paper form is mailed to the home. • If there is no response by April 30, a census worker will visit the home. • Reminders will take place May-July, and Aug-Dec is the time to say thank you! There is no “do-over” for this. We get a chance once every 10 years to stand up and be counted. We thing that every person in our trade area is important, and every single one of them must be part of this census. [ LINK FOR TOOLS FOR BUSINESS ]
