President’s Message Leading People. Leading Prosperity. Let me begin by saying how grateful my team and I to have weathered 2020 with YOU! We are keenly aware of the challenges the business community has faced. Many of you have shared with us the struggles, hurts, and hardships you and your employees have dealt with. Yet, it hasn’t been all bad. Many of our businesses have good news stories to share! They are proud of their teams who brought innovative and creative strategies forward. Through trial and error these new approaches have kept companies not just surviving but thriving. KELLY HALL
President/CEO How has your chamber done this past year? We made up our minds we were moving forward with a positive growth mindset! We were willing to change the way we conduct business and serve our customers. We not only believe in understanding our local predicament but demonstrated how together we can face challenges head on. What will 2021 look like? While predictions are uncertain, what we do know is your Chamber will continue working on your behalf behind the scenes to help you succeed with initiatives like the following: ·
Launched our new Live, Work and Play website www.nowlongview.com An excellent tool for attracting and retaining talent.
·
Launching our NEW LongviewNOW! interactive digital relocation magazine in mid-January!
·
Launching our NEW LongviewNOW! video showcasing the great amenities and assets our community has to offer.
As for our priorities in 2021: In addition to being the catalyst for business growth, the convener of leaders and influencers, and the champion for a better community, we intend on continuing to protect our business environment so companies can succeed. In preparation of the upcoming legislative session, we are concerned about the mounting number of bills being filed proposing some type of tax increase. The budget shortfall will place extreme pressure on our lawmakers and now more than ever we must remain diligent at clearly communicating our business community’s priorities. We are committed to doing that for you! “I am glad we have had the opportunity to demonstrate our loyalty to our business community this past year! I also appreciate YOU for sticking with us and believing in the work that we do on your behalf.”

Advocacy Strengthening Longview by Advocating for Local Business
The Chamber of Commerce is a business organization representing the interests of more than 1100 businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, and 45,000 hard-working Texans. Our members range from mom-and-pop shops and local chambers to leading industry associations and large corporations. They all share one thing—they count on the Chamber to be their voice. The Chamber has and continues to be the driving force behind the growth in Longview. 2020 brought tremendous challenges for business. As Texas and the world were placed on hold to rein in the spread of a virus, the Chamber quickly set up webinars addressing those pain points businesses were already experiencing and to consider the questions of that impact long term. In partnerships with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the SBDC, recognized legal attorneys, and agencies, your Chamber processed information and discussions, and advocated on your behalf on relief and assistance legislation. As a result,
1822 PPP loans were awarded to 271 businesses in Longview for a total of $188,476,107, and the average loan amount of $103,444 (DATA PROVIDED BY THE SBDC OF NORTH TEXAS).
NEW LEGISLATIVE SESSION Return of Governmental Affairs Calls With the 2021 new legislative session comes the return of the bi-weekly phone calls during session. If you wish to be added to that call list, please reach out to Suzanne Brown sbrown@longviewtx.com. It is likely that a special session will be called this year. These calls help to keep members informed of the ongoing legislation that is important to the business community, as well as provides occasional touches with our elected officials. Expect to see communications regarding another edition of the reginal Capitol Connect, providing and end of session wrap-up.
ONE CLICK POLITICS Your Chamber is rolling out a new Call to Action program, One Click Politics. This is the leading non-partisan, grassroots campaign management company providing campaigns to bring members together to rally behind support or opposition of legislation under consideration. We kicked off this initiative in December 2020 with a grass roots campaign urging Congress to consider several steps toward extending funding and legal protections for business owners and their employees. This would include Business Liability Protection, Provide Workforce Development programs, Assistance with State and Local Aid, Extend & Enhance the Paycheck Protection Program, and a general request to make small business whole again.

EAST TEXAS COALITION GOES TO AUSTIN – February 22-23, 2021
INTERCITY TRIP TO TULSA, OKLAHOMA – March 29 - March 31, 2021
Working together on a regional basis for a stronger representation in Austin, East Texas Coalition is comprised of Kilgore, Lindale, Longview and Tyler Chambers of Commerce. Slated for February 22-23, 2021, this advocacy initiative brings leaders closer to the agencies and elected officials in our state. Of import to note is that there are fewer regions visiting the Capitol this year. This trip has been planned to adhere to local guidelines for social distancing and safety to keep our attendees and hotel employees safe. Join us to be one of the few voices in Austin this year to make a big impact for the northeast Texas region! Be a part of this large contingency representing East Texas meeting with policy makers, associations, and our elected officials, and bring more advocacy education and awareness opportunities back to East Texas! Forge new relationships and enjoy the camaraderie in this joint objective!
The Longview Chamber of Commerce & Tulsa Regional Chamber Board of Directors invites you to participate in the InterCity Visit 66 to Tulsa, Oklahoma, March 29 - March 31, 2021. Why an InterCity Visit? The visit is Longview to TULSA designed to get new ideas to move Longview 2021 forward. It provides an opportunity to SPONSORED BY introduce our delegation to innovative programs and impactful projects that may be adapted and implemented in our community. Candid speakers will share the challenges and pitfalls with which they are currently struggling or have overcome. Meet with Tulsa’s community leaders and discuss the challenges and opportunities our community is facing. The visit also provides an opportunity for interaction among city leaders and facilitates an exchange of best practices and lessons learned.

Your Chamber moves forward with a drive toward greater excellence in serving the business community. We know there will be challenges ahead. There will always be challenges, no matter what form they take. Your Chamber is here to take them on.
WASHINGTON D.C. FLY-IN – March 8-11, 2021
Make your voice heard! The DC Trip kicked off in 2020 with a virtual meeting with policy experts from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. A robust discussion on policy issues ensued to educate our members on critical issues impacting business: Energy, Transportation, Economic Growth, Cyber Security, and Immigration. [ PREQUEL TO THE MARCH TRIP ] Whether you are experienced at contacting elected officials or someone who would like to learn how to have your legislative and business concerns addressed by your elected representatives, this event provides the opportunity to meet with officials and their staff in the congressional office building. Drawing from member input, the Chamber will draft a list of key business issues as well as background information for participants to review and add to prior to the Fly-In. This information prepares participants in initiating the conversations with their representatives.

Education The Comeback Kids

In partnership with The Graduate Network, this article begins a series of communications about the skills and education workforce gap in our trade area, and those individuals taking on the difficult challenge of advancing their skills during “adulthood,” past the time of “traditional education.” This first article is an interview with Megan Wallace, a student at Kilgore College. Thank you, Megan, for spending time to with us to help tell this story.

Q: What made you go back to school and
what has been the most rewarding aspects for you during this process?
A: I was laid off in June Due to COVID-19.
I was tired of working for minimum wage. I am a single mother of an 11-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy. I felt that I needed to do more than just make ends meet. I needed to get a degree so I could afford the bills and save money for the little things my daughter Megan Wallace needs at school and the activities she wants Kilgore College Student to participate in. Also, it will only be 5 more years and she will need her first car. All of this sank in and lit a fire. I am 32 and going back to school at my age I feel I am more focused on the work and the responsibility it takes to be successful as opposed to when I was younger. My children are depending on me to make it and I will. The most rewarding aspect about college is I am able to show my kids that no matter what happens or what situation they are in, they can achieve anything they put their minds to. My daughter and I will do homework together sometimes. It encourages her to do her best as well. My 5-year-old son asks for homework because he doesn’t think it’s fair that only sissy and I have work to do. lol We discuss grades, and they are proud of me when I do good and as am I of them. We are a team. We encourage each other and work together to make it happen.
Q: Is your employer providing you any assistance? (Tuition reimbursement, flex time, College assistance, childcare, transportation, etc)
A: I am still unemployed at this time. Q: What advice would you give to others in your situation? A: As far as advice goes, I would say never give up on your dreams and it’s never too late to go back to school. In fact, for some it is better to wait until they are mature enough to handle the workload.
Q:
How can the community (business, community organizations, or higher education institutions) better support adults wishing to complete their degree?
A: I believe the community already helps a great deal.
It would be nice if more employers were able to work around a school and daycare schedule.

W W W. L O N G V I E W C H A M B E R . C O M
I realize that may not be feasible for most companies, but it does get hard around the holidays and kids birthdays being a full-time student. Budgeting gets very difficult sometimes.
Q: Are there any other comments or words of wisdom that you wish to share?
A: No matter the case, though, I stepped out in faith.
I had nothing but a dream and still two kids to support, and I just had to walk in faith. It’s not easy and it can be very stressful. The college puts a lot of effort in as well. I’m not sure how I would make it without the kind and caring teachers that only want to see you succeed. The TRIO program as well has helped me figure out my pathway for classes and shows great support in the college experience. I am very blessed and excited to see what the future holds on my journey.
We are grateful to Megan for spending time with us, and we look forward to seeing everything she accomplishes on this journey!

Industry Expert Conterra Networks | Your Business Solution In today’s environment, it is more important than ever to stay connected wherever you are. When selecting a Unified Communications Provider there are five areas of focus to ensure you get the best possible experience and choose a solution that grows with the needs of your business. Keith Lloyd Area Sales Manager 903-736-7250
· FLEXIBILITY: Select a platform that can meet your business communication demands now and into the future. As environments change and the needs for remote work increases, selecting a platform that provides features like secure remote access, video collaboration, and CRM integration will keep you from negatively impacting user productivity.
MANAGEMENT PORTAL: Your business needs change quickly so having the ability to make changes without reliance on provider resources is essential. Make sure to have a solid understanding of how easy it is for you to manage the services through the platform’s on-line Portal.
VOICE EXPERIENCE: A solution should be able to deliver a common user experience across hardware devices. Having a common unified communication interface whether you are using Office Phones, Desktops, Mobile Devices, Tablet PCs, or Laptops improves the efficiency of your users.
DELIVERING THE FASTEST AND MOST EFFICIENT FIBER TECHNOLOGY TO BUSINESSES IN LONGVIEW, KILGORE, AND MARSHALL FOR OVER 25 YEARS
DELIVERY METHOD: Many providers offer a solution that is commonly referred to as Over the Top (OTT) which means that the UC traffic is transported over the Internet to get from your location to the UC platform. Look for UC services that offer a Service Level Agreement (SLA) and use other more reliable and secure methods of connection like Layer 2 or Layer 3 network transport to consistently experience the highest call quality.
PLATFORM ROADMAP: The platform you choose should have a plan to expand with technologies of the future. The rising use of online platforms for shopping has led to the demand for solutions that offer real-time information. The providers roadmap should support your efforts to increase the effectiveness of customer touch points like using Contact Center to integrate with your CRM and WebRTC solutions like cloud video conferencing, Video Chatbots, and Eventbots.
