Bryony Page twisted and turned her way to gold at the Trampolining World Championships in Baku. Page has two Olympic medals to her name but none in her first seven attempts at the World Championships. That was before she pulled out the routine of a lifetime to score 56.235 and take gold in Azerbaijan. “I’m overwhelmed. It hasn’t really sunk in," said Page. "I’m just happy to have got out there, completed a routine and added in my new skill to the end. That felt really nice." It is the latest chapter in an amazing career - Page won silver at Rio 2016, Team GB's first trampolining medal, and bronze at Tokyo 2020. The 30-year-old's time in the sport has been touched by adversity, in the shape of injury and 'lost move syndrome' earlier in her career. “I improved my scores from the other day and competed a routine close to what I think my potential is, so I’m really happy with that," she said.

“I wasn’t sure if it was going to be good enough for a medal, let alone the top place on the podium, so it’s really special. Standing on top of the podium with the national anthem playing was such a special moment.” Having qualified in third place, Page aborted her first attempt at the routine, marked with a 15.200 degree of difficulty, the highest tariff in the field. When she took off, in her own time, it was worth the wait and the routine of a lifetime, featuring two triple saltos and a perfect dismount. Throughout the routine she stayed central to the bed with minimal travel. Bryony trains with Sheffield Trampoline Academy and has been trampolining since the age of 9. Bryony’s coach Paul Greaves said

“ Can’t believe I’m actually writing this. I’ve always know and believed you were the best in the world but now you’ve gone and proved it - you are the WORLD Champion. Proud doesn’t come close, you have overcome so much but stayed true to the amazing, kind and crazy person you are. So many people to thank that have been part of the journey but a huge thanks to Tracy WhittakerSmith and the team at British Gymnastics for all the support over the years. Team work really did make the dream work.”

Vibrant community hub Stannington campaign group, Action for Knowle Top, is urging local residents to get behind them to help buy the former Knowle Top Chapel and Schoolroom.

Nicola Parris, Joint Chair for AKT, commented “Anyone could buy it, maybe even knock it down and build whatever they want. But it should belong to Stannington. It should stay in local hands and stay open for business. Knowle Top has huge potential to become a vibrant and boundless community hub with meeting spaces and performance facilities hosting a range of events.

‘Mini Police’ get to deter speeding

Come along to the public meeting at 7.30 pm on Wednesday 24th November at Christchurch, Stannington, and find out how you can support this exciting project” Brass Band will lose their ‘home’ Stannington Brass Band will lose their bandroom at Knowle Top, Stannington, unless local campaign group, Action for Knowle Top, is successful in its bid to buy the former chapel and schoolroom. Proceeds from the band’s concert at the Lomas Hall, Stannington, on Saturday 4th December will go towards the purchase fund. Phil Attrill, Chairman said “We hope the community will get behind Action for Knowle Top to save the former chapel and schoolroom for everyone to use. We want to remain in our base in the heart of Stannington and see the buildings used for many more events and activities”. The band will delight the audience with a serving of festive favourites and plenty more besides. Special guests, Clifton Handbell Ringers, will add their own yuletide flavour to this musical spectacular.

Sheffield North West Police Team last week sent PCSO’s into Stocksbridge Junior School to speak to the ‘Mini Police’ about speeding and parking. The students were showed how to use the speed gun and even had a go themselves, monitoring Cedar Road. On a positive note, the majority of vehicles were within the 20mph speed limit and ‘good parking advisory tickets’ were left on cars that were parked considerately. The ‘Mini Police’ is an innovative and exciting scheme for Year 5 pupils who have been nominated by their schools to take part in a series of sessions delivered by PCSO’s. The topics they cover include the dangers of speeding, anti-social behaviour, and online safety.

In 1976 school-leaver Ian Clancy learned his trade at a local doubleglazing company before making the leap two years later of going it alone. A young enthusiastic worker Ian was described as ‘always first on site and last on site’. It wasn’t long before the hard-working Ian bought his first and current premises on Manchester Road in Deepcar, and set up his own window company Deepcar. These premises are now home to a brand new showroom featuring the latest range of products, from tiled roof system conservatories to composite doors. Early success was to follow when in 1983 Ian was named winner of Yorkshire Televisions ‘Young Enterprise - Businessman of the year’ Ian still has the very first door made by Deepcar back in 1978. Still in perfect working order, the door sits proudly at the back of the showroom, illustrating Deepcar’s pride in their humble beginnings. Ian beams “ Our aim is the same today as it was back then - we will provide the best products and best customer service.” He continues “ In today's busy world we pride ourselves in looking after you the customer and will offer the same level of service whether you are having a new conservatory or a lock fixed on your window.

like these are the most humbling times to be a Mayor and an MP. The political world can sometimes cause cynicism, but standing here, I am reminded that there is hope for the future.

Contact with children at Christmas

01226 812138

If arrangements cannot be agreed, then if it is appropriate in your circumstances, you should attend family mediation for a Mediation Information Assessment Meeting (MIAM). An independent and impartial third party can help you discuss the issues and possibly help you reach an amicable solution.

Get in touch with our Penistone team for your initial consultation about any of the Legal Services we offer: • Family Law Solicitors • Litigation Services • Wills & Probate • Commercial Property • Employment Law

Christmas is a special time of year for most people, and if you no longer live together as a family unit, ensuring you spend time with your children at this time of year is often a parent’s main priority.

• Accident & Personal Injury • Child Abuse Compensation • Professional Negligence • Residential Conveyancing • Company & Commercial

When it comes to spending time with your children, if matters cannot be agreed with the other parent, making arrangements for the Christmas period cannot be done early enough.

www.jordanssolicitors.co.uk

Whilst you may have an idea of what you want to happen, you must always remember this is a special time of the year for the children too and depending on their ages they may have their own wishes and feelings about where they want to spend Christmas. The main thing is that any arrangements are made in the children’s best interests.

“On your doorstep for all your legal needs” Penistone 1 Regent Court St Mary’s Street PENISTONE S36 6DT

That being said you should always speak with the other parent in the first instance to try and agree arrangements. Try to focus on this one issue and leave any others to one side. Getting angry and upset is not going to help matters. If there have been disagreements in the past it would be sensible to record these arrangements in writing so you both have a copy.

MAIN COURSES Butter roast turkey crown, pigs in blankets, sage stuffing, Brussel sprouts St pancetta, roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables, roasting gravy

STARTERS Leek & potato chowder, soft poached egg, truffle oil (vg available) Moroccan spiced lamb terrine, aubergine relish, tzatziki (gf) Henderson’s cured salmon, pickled onion, crème fraiche, black treacle loaf Chargrilled focaccia, fig compote, Yorkshire blue, candied walnut (v,n)

Whole baked plaice, preserved lemon, green beans, new potatoes, chive butter sauce (gf) Chargrilled 10oz Meadow Farm sirloin steak, twice cooked chips, roast tomato & mushroom, rocket & parmesan salad (gf, £5 supplement) Roast onion risotto, sage and chestnut crumble (vg,gf)

It is now mandatory to attend a MIAM (unless you meet certain exemption criteria) and obtain a certificate confirming your attendance (or exemption) before you can make an application to the court. This process can take several weeks to complete. Once an application has been made to the court, depending on the issues which are raised the matter could be resolved at the first hearing or could take several hearings. The court does not consider Christmas contact as an urgent issue hence why it is important to start thinking about making arrangements as early as possible. Remember if you don’t receive the outcome, you would like this year, there will be other years and opportunities to spend time together which can be just as special. Should you wish to seek any legal advice or make an appointment at our Penistone Office please contact our Loreena Walker on 01226 812138. Loreena Walker is a Legal Executive in the Family Law Department at Jordans Solicitors. www.jordanssolicitors.co.uk

Funding available for businesses to switch to low carbon Small businesses in and around Sheffield will soon benefit from a new Low Carbon Business Support Project, which will offer help in identifying, funding, and implementing measures to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. The project will be delivered to businesses in South Yorkshire and is part funded by the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020. Running until June 2023, the £2.3m funding will provide support to over 250 Small and Medium-sized enterprises to help them understand the opportunities available to reduce their carbon footprint. The project aims to create a Reduction in Greenhouse Gases (GHG) equivalent to 450 tonnes of CO2, as well as increase long-term profitability for businesses. Businesses will have access to free energy audits to identify potential energy saving improvements such as low-

energy lighting systems or improvements to heating, 1-1 support from specialist business advisors and lowcarbon grants to part fund the improvements. As part of the support package available, business advisors will provide comprehensive advice on schemes available to help SMEs implement their chosen measures, and a review will be carried out after changes have been implemented to verify the businesses’ carbon reduction. Councillor Paul Turpin, Executive Member for Inclusive Economy, Jobs and Skills at Sheffield City Council, said: “We know that many small businesses can face barriers in making changes to reduce their carbon emissions, so we have developed a plan designed to tackle these obstacles and make it as easy as possible for businesses to get started. This new project will support businesses every step of the way – offering dedicated help, advice and practical support. “We need to act on climate change

now and we have to work together to make changes to protect the future of our city. Many businesses in Sheffield are already leading the way with a range of sustainable initiatives, but we know that for others taking the first steps can be challenging. We want to help businesses to understand their impact on the environment and work with them to look at how things can be done more efficiently and profitably – encouraging resilience and growth in our local economy. “It’s really important that nobody is left behind as Sheffield takes action on climate change, and I’m looking forward to working with our local businesses to make lasting changes over the next few years that will benefit everyone.” Businesses can find out more about the Low Carbon Business Support Project by contacting their council’s business team: businesssheffield@sheffield.gov.uk or investment@barnsley.gov. uk

Oughtibridge Ladies indoor cricket team played their first competitive fixtures at the weekend, in the South Yorkshire indoor softball league, held at Forge Valley School & produced two creditable performances against more experienced line ups from Whitley Hall & Treeton CC before narrowly missing out on a first league victory. Oughtibridge scored 296-4 batting first against Whitley Hall, but despite taking 9 opposition wickets, Whitley managed to

score the runs required for victory. Batting first again in their second game, Oughtibridge registered 293-6 however, this wasn’t enough as Treeton’s powerful hitters achieved 338 for the loss of only 2 wickets. Tania Moorhouse skippered the team, along with fellow team mates Sian Hoyland, Hayley Brittain, Ros Bonner, Sue CockbillBlack, Kate Martin & Sharon Whitfield pictured below. Oughtibridge Ladies are back in action on 5th December.

Christmas concert disappointment It was bitterly disappointing to find out that the Christmas Concert at St. Mary’s Bolsterstone is not being allowed to take place as only limited numbers are permitted. Other Churches are operating normally with theatres and such venues having dispensed with all restrictions. At the service of Remembrance in the Royal Albert Hall it was said that the building was full to capacity which it so obviously was, and with the Royal Family in attendance. Why then has St. Mary’s not moved on with even funeral numbers being restricted. Why also did the Church not observe the two minutes silence at the Cenotaph at 11 a.m. on Remembrance Sunday. It is understood that this was done after the morning service. Those who turned up at 11 a.m. were visibly shocked. In towns and villages throughout the country this two minutes silence unites everyone in reverence to those who gave their lives for our freedom. For their families, every day is Remembrance Day. What a sad state of affairs and one never experienced before.

Positive resident - reply Dear Positive Upper Don resident That’s a bit of a mouthful. So is PUDR ok ? Many of the recent letters that ‘Look Local’ as a concerned and open minded press organisation have chosen to publish have been about government mishandling of the private water company’s treatment of sewage and effluence. The subject is indeed “a torrent sometimes nasty “. However the way the letters were written, although heartfelt was always respectful including towards our MP. Looking back on my treasured back issues of ‘Look Local’ I think that I have also expressed myself on other matters politely, whether to politicians or property developers. That does not mean I have to agree with Tories. From which you might detect I am indeed an “individual with a political agenda” An IPA ? Just like Look Local’s other tens of thousands of readers, every time I spend money, pay taxes or use services I do indeed have a political agenda. Actually I would vote here for whichever party stood the best chance in our electoral system of beating the Tories, who since 2010 have presided over the UK’s first fall in life expectancy since Victorian times. Their Austerity policies (which the Towns Fund in no way reverses because for some reason it must be spent on buildings not youth workers and community policing) has brought premature death and poorer quality of life to many people. When there is a personal connection to this it makes you sad and angry. When I contact my MP I may also choose to copy in ‘Look Local’. In an open society there is nothing wrong in sharing respectfully expressed views on matters that are important to us all. Yours Peter Morton. Also a PUDR

SKILLS GAP

Noted you received many letters directed for local Penistone & Stocksbridge MP after she and her Tory government were found to support one of its own MPs Mr Paterson and tried to cover up his indiscretion. This act has upset many people over the country and rightly so, people in our area have followed your publication “Got something to say?” and sent their letters in. I had my first every letter published, thank you.

Dear Editor,

I did notice you allowed one letter in support of our MP. Positive there are many unhappy Upper Don Valley Residents

Local MP I note with interest your editor’s own contribution to Letters page stating that letters to Look Local for the attention of Miriam cates MP are, and I quote, “very welcome and appreciated”. I note also, in the very next paragraph, a carefully worded encouragement that we should take matters up directly with Miriam herself! Perhaps you should point out the likely outcome if one is to take up this advice. Firstly, it is highly likely that you will get no response at all, and that fact is admitted my Miriam herself. If you do receive a reply it will be from someone else, saying that it has been read but not saying by whom. Miriam’s excuse is that she is prioritising emails from constituents with personal issues and those in need of urgent assistance. There are many agencies and hard-working local councillors dedicated to taking on such matters. Members of parliament are there to represent us in parliament on matters of national concern and government policy. It is not satisfactory to hide behind local issues as an excuse for neglecting to respond to constituents on issues on which she was elected.

I see that our MP, Miriam Cates, has had a ‘change of mind’ following the government’s revised HS2 proposals and now endorses them. I am becoming increasingly convinced that if Boris Johnson suggested nuking Stocksbridge and Deepcar, along with all its residents, Cates would nod along happily, say it was a fabulous idea, and was something she has always fully supported. Faithfully, David Harrison, Deepcar

Local MP I find it very disturbing that that you publish an anonymous letter from”positive” in support of the MP. How do we know this has not been sent by her office or a “ spokesperson “. Why the need to remain anonymous what are they hiding. All the more important when you realise that Miriam Cates voted not to suspend Owen Paterson for his disgraceful conduct. We need an MP with a moral compass not a nodding donkey who will vote for whatever she is told

Dr Alexander Burnett - Crane Moor

Medical Centre I am extremely disappointed and saddened by the letter printed in your paper on 11.11.21 re Valley Medical Centre. Throughout all of the COVID pandemic, the incredible services given by ALL staff at the surgery have been second to none. They have when necessary been seeing sick patients either in the surgery and/or at home, after having had in depth phone consultations.

Many of the sectors continuing to battle with skills shortages, such as construction, manufacturing, and hospitality, are reliant on Level 2 vocational qualifications as a direct route into jobs in these industries.

As a patient at Valley Medical Centre I cannot thank them enough for the care and support I have had over the last 6 months and during the pandemic.

Yet, the Government has failed to prioritise these lower level, work-ready qualifications, instead focusing their post-16 policy and funding at qualifications of A Level standard and above.

RECENT NONSENSE

The Government have a chance to close the skills gap and the disadvantage gap that is so significant among 16-19-year-olds, boost the economy and give young people the future they deserve. But to do this, they must ensure a wide range of high-quality, employerendorsed options are available at all levels. Yours, Campbell Robb, Nacro

Social care cost Dear Look Local I was very disappointed to see that my Conservative MP, Miriam Cates, voted for the amendment to England’s social care plans last night that will disproportionately hit poorer pensioners within my constituency of Penistone and Stocksbridge. The change, meaning council contributions will not go towards the cap, means that poorer pensioners needing any significant period of care in a care home (which many of us will) will end up paying virtually the same as richer pensioners. This will mean that despite all the soundbites given out by this government, many poorer pensioners needing any significant period of care in a care home will need to sell their homes to fund it. A terrace house in Stocksbridge sells for an average of £115,120, whilst the average terrace house in Belgravia, London, sells for over 3.5 million (figures from Zoopla). Those who need significant care in a care home and can afford it will get to keep their homes, whilst poorer residents, such as those in Penistone and Stocksbridge, will be forced to sell their homes and be left with very little. Many of her Conservative colleagues couldn’t stomach doing this to their constituents and voted against the amendment last night, including Holly Mumby-Croft MP for Scunthorpe and Mark Jenkinson MP for Workington. Instead of standing up for her constituents, Miriam Cates has sold them down the river to avoid breaking the Conservative whip. Whilst I appreciate that social care funding is a complex area that needs reform, disproportionately putting this cost onto poorer pensioners is the absolute wrong way to do it. Miriam Cates and this government promised to level up places like ours, instead they’re dragging us down.

“Some of the recent, anonymous and unsigned, correspondence which seems to have found its way onto the letters page displays what might neutrally be described as either a distinct absence of knowledge and understanding of how basic health care is provided at GP practices under the present Covid-19 pandemic or a deliberate attempt to mislead. It is disingenuous in the extreme, as well as simplistically naive, to publicly allege a largely empty surgery is evidence of no work being carried out. Firstly, in the present pandemic conditions sound and sensible practice adopted across the country is for initial patient contact to be assessed remotely by phone/internet. This prevents crowded surgeries which would most certainly increase the transmission rate of the Covid virus. Its not exactly quantum mechanics to figure that out. Its basic common sense. Secondly, doctor’s do not simply sit in the surgery all day. There are periods every day when home visits are carried out. Particularly within an area such as Stocksbridge and the Upper Don Valley which has a high elderly demographic. Finally, there is the added problems associated with the accelerating privatisation of the NHS. Where, for example, added layers of bureaucracy to satisfy private rent seeking corporate interests add to workloads and impact on effectiveness and efficiency. The latest, again anonymous, suggestion that complaints should be submitted to Health Watch and/or the General Medical Council would be laughable if these anonymous evidence free and unsubstantiated allegations were not so serious. Serious because, to paraphrase a well known phrase, ‘careless talk costs lives. Such spurious allegations and misinformation serve only to undermine the NHS and patient and staff morale as well as furthering the insidious process of NHS privatisation. But perhaps, to quote an observation from yet another recent anonymous letter [#Issue 1192] there is a “political agenda” at work here? If so, it would certainly be prudent, as well as responsible, on the part of the Editor of Look Local to ensure they are not being misused to further such an agenda?” Dave Hansell, Stocksbridge

Medical Centre Dear Editor, I am writing in response to the recent letter written by an anonymous patient complaining about the “poor service” given by GP’s in general and Valley Medical Centre in particular. It seems to me that this person has fallen into the trap of assuming that because things are not visible, then nothing is happening. In fact the opposite is the case. I have been a member of the Patient Participation Group at Valley Medical Centre – set up to encourage feed-back between patients and Drs. – for at least 8 years and I know how hard the Drs. and all the staff work to attend to patients and keep them safe. During the pandemic, the telephone triage system was introduced to do just that – keep people safe by not risking exposing them to infection, and to avoid making the surgery a means of transmitting the infection. It may seem to many that now that restrictions have been relaxed a little, arrangements to consult a Dr. should also have been relaxed, but the truth is that the infection has not gone away and cases are increasing. Some facts which may not be well known are:•VMC have never locked their doors since the pandemic started, unlike some practices in Sheffield (some of which still do). •They have seen patients face to face, following telephone triage, throughout the pandemic, and since July at the patient’s request. (I know of patients personally who have contacted the practice with worrying symptoms, have been seen very promptly and referred on without delay.) •They have employed additional Drs. to ensure they have enough cover, and have advertised for another to cope with winter pressures. In addition to this, the heroic efforts to be the hub for rolling out the vaccination programme for the whole valley, combining three practices, involved an enormous amount of organisation and careful planning which inevitably meant that some areas of work – especially on the admin. side – had to be dealt with as and when time permitted. We are lucky to have such a quality practice with dedicated and committed staff on our door-step; and I suggest that the complainant would do better to talk directly to the staff about their concerns so that both sides can learn from an open and honest dialogue about each other’s worries and pressures. This should have been the first course of action before leaping to conclusions, based on inaccurate information, in such a public way. Yours sincerely, E. Anne Payne (Member of VMC Patient Participation Group)

Excellent Medical centre Dear editor Empty waiting rooms mean nothing more than that the patients with an appointment at that time are with the doctors/nurses and the patients for the next appointments are not coming in early, pretty desirable in a pandemic and less time wasting for the patients involved, I’d have thought. It does not mean that GPs are not busy. There is a nationwide shortage of GPs and nurses. The use of telephone appointments is widespread, and appropriate in many cases. GPs also do home visits, liaise with other

services, write reports and update records. When you see or hear GPs being interviewed on radio or TV about their hectic schedule, and the difficulty of recruiting extra staff to replace those who are burnt out or retiring, why would you think they are making it up?

On my last request for a face to face the doctor I so was a locum. This led to a visit to the Hand Clinic at the NG where I saw a doctor face to face and an operation is forthcoming. It is reported that A & E clinics are under a lot of pressure which is hardly surprising when you cannot see a GP. I have been in touch with Sheffield Healthwatch quite a few times over the years and they advised to get in touch with The General Medical Council which I have done. I am waiting there response. I have also had to make a number of visits to hospitals and a clinic in Nottingham for ear surgery. Again I have seen all the staff face to face. It is no wonder that patients are not happy with the way there very well paid and many part time GP’s are behaving. I, and I should imagine many other people, get extremely annoyed with the GP’s union spouting how there members are working under so much pressure. Pull the other one. And yes, I am anonymous.

In order to give the squad some worthwhile competitive rugby the Club have organised a 10 a side mini festival for the 4th December featuring teams from Sheffield Oaks, Buxton & ironically Stanley Rodillians.

FC Inter 3-1 Chapeltown RBL most doubled their lead when the Inter keeper parried a shot which saw Morgan Cowell put narrowly over the bar. Inter drew level when a cross took a deflection to find its way in the bottom corner, and soon after took the lead when the Inter midfielder rifled in to the top corner from 30 yards.

The enforced break gives some of the walking wounded time to recover, Skipper RolesMiddlehurst & full back Dan Burt took part in training last week after their knocks during the Mosborough game. Ricky James is nearing fitness after a niggly knee injury, newcomer Tommy Kerr seems to be on the mend from a shoulder problem & Rees ‘diesel’ Aspin has recovered from multiple facial injuries sustained in the heat of battle over recent weeks. Add to this the impending return to training of Sam Whitaker & the jet heeled Ryan Smith, plus the return of former Rugby League man Ben Tyers after wedding absence, & the Club are looking forward to the New Year with a fit & healthy squad. Before that though, there are 2 tricky fixtures looming large, a tough away trip at Rotherham Phoenix on 11th December, followed by a home clash with Hessle Rugby the weekend after, with a 2.15pm kick off.

Legion took the lead after Adam Todd crossed for Dave Millen to head home in the box. Legion al-

Goals: Mangham, Crofts

A much changed Stocksbridge Park Steels side were not able to get a point in a battling 4-2 loss to Dunston. Stocksbridge took the lead through a Luke Mangham penalty. They were pegged back by a far post header from Liam Thear before a penalty from Sado Djalo gave Dunston the

lead. They doubled that lead with a mazy effort from Thear. Nathaniel Crofts got one back for Stocksbridge but despite a battling second half, a wonder goal from Lee Mason stopped any hopes of a comeback. Next Home game: Lincoln Utd, Saturday 27 Nov, 3pm KO.

Church High as a Keight Staveley MW 0-4 Penistone Church FC

Goals: Nathan Keightley 8, 84, Reece High 26, 49

A brace apiece from Nathan Keightley and Reece High gave Church’s yo-yo season an impressive 4-0 away win. A wonderful team performance was capped off by some fantastic finishing.

This game is the ‘Christmas Jumper’ fixture, & all are asked to support the cause. The squad continue to train in good numbers as Manager Steve Lenthall beamed they prepare for these crunch pre-Christmas after the game fixtures with skipper Adam Roles-Middlehurst keen to continue the improvement in “Excellent today winning fourAs Legion pushed men forward the skill level & in attitude ‘the lads are really nil at Staveley and what a reacan error at the back allowed Inter giving it their all in training’ he said, adding tion! to make it 3-1 in to an open goal. ‘The Coaching staff are making us work hard on our fitness levels whilst we prepare for the It’s exactly what we wanted from next match, & the response is very good’. last week against Garforth. We RBL are without a game next asked the players to take responweek before returning to league The club are unsure as yet how the play offs sibilities individually, we asked will pan out after the Christmas break with action in their push for promoeverybody to go out there man Stocksbridge likely to be the only club from tion to Division One. for man and win their own indithe South West section qualifying for the vidual battles and I thought we did that superbly today.” tournament. Forthcoming fixture: Saturday 27th November 2021 v Eccleshill United (h) KO 3-00pm Legion pressed in the second half for an equaliser and saw several shots blocked in the area and a strong claim for a penalty following a hand ball.

Chapeltown RBL crashed out of the junior cup in round three away to Division One FC Inter.

Rugby Steels battle to host in vain festival Dunston 4-2 Stocksbridge PS With last weekend’s opponents Stanley Rodillians withdrawing from the league, Globe Holidays sponsored Stocksbridge Rugby were left without a fixture. 25th November 2021

Winter Cup Round 7 at the Golf Club With cooler and windier weather, Round 7 of the Winter Cup at the Golf Club was played under some testing conditions on the 21 November. The course itself remains in excellent condition though and this helped with some fine scoring. Simon Homer (15) won by a clear margin with 41 points. Simon's round was consistently good for 18 holes and he managed to avoid a 6 on his card, something that many amateur golfers always treasure. Eric Wilkinson (10) was second with 38 points, with a round that included birdies on the 1st and 13th. Neil Elliott (12) also scored 38 points, but lost out to Eric on countback. Further down the field Shaun Stapleton (10) enjoyed a spe-

cial moment with an eagle three on the third hole. A day later the Gents Section competed for a Pro's Prize Sunday Stableford. Paul Blake (8) won by a close margin with 38 points and with two birdies in the first three holes, he got off to a flyer. Joe Marsh (23) finished second, close behind with 37 points. Andy Taylor (17) was third with 36 points. The Dragons Section competed for the latest round of the senior section's Winter Cup on 17 November. Four players all finished at the top of the leader board with the same scores. Charlie Dale (24) from the Second Division was the overall winner with

37 points. Steven Haigh (14) from the First Division, was second with the same score, but losing out to Charlie on countback. Ian Batty (16) took third and John Sawdon (23) was fourth also on countback. Finally, the Gents Section competed for a 9-hole Midweek Pro's Prize Stableford. Alec Cowling (9), Lewis Perry (11) and Liam O'Sullivan (1) all scored a highly credible 20 points. But it was Alec who won on countback, with a score that was two shots below his handicap allowance. All three scored consistently well over the 9 holes, but it is worth noting that Liam scored birdies on four holes and could still only finish third.
