Pain-free Expansion
Julia Webster (front centre) and some of her team celebrate the opening of North Down Physio’s new premises in Holywood.
For North Down Physio
A HOLYWOOD-BASED PHYSIOTHERAPY BUSINESS WHICH SPECIALISES IN SPORTS INJURIES AND BACK PAIN HAS EXPANDED IN ORDER TO COPE WITH DEMAND FOR THE UNIQUE SERVICES IT OFFERS.
J
ulia Webster, who established North Down Physio six years ago, has invested £200,000 in the first phase of a five-year expansion programme, which initially includes a new treatment centre in Holywood. She has also extended her 11-strong core team to include five physiotherapists, two massage therapists, a sports podiatrist, a sports performance coach as well as admin support staff. Her future plans include further specialist treatments and advisory services to complement the existing multidisciplinary approach to client care. Julia, a highly qualified physiotherapist, is one of only a few in Northern Ireland to be accredited in the Sarah Key method, a unique approach to the treatment of back pain where she uses her feet to mobilise joints and spinal muscle to alleviate pain. The physio-comebusinesswoman, who has worked at major events including the London Olympics, the Commonwealth Games, and the recent Gran Fondo has seen a significant growth in demand for specialist services over the last three years.
northdownphysio.com “The treatment of sports injuries is one of our key specialisms and this is reflected in the changing focus of sport locally. Enthusiasts are pushing themselves and their bodies further than ever before through cycling, running, triathlons, adventure races and even iron-man events. Participants know they have to invest in their health and look after their bodies – as much as their equipment - if they are to achieve success and sustain their competitive edge over the long term.” It is not just the sporting population who are demanding the expert touch. Julia also
noted that today’s more sedentary lifestyle and long hours working at computers have created a need for the specialist back and spine treatments her team provide: “There is no doubt that the average person spends more time working at a desk, which, combined with poor posture, can affect the spine and cause acute, and often chronic pain. We’ve noticed a surge in demand for non-invasive treatments such as the Sarah Key method, myofascial release, acupuncture and pilates, all of which has influenced and driven our longer term expansion plans.”

CODE CRACKERS Teenage girls and teachers at Belfast Metropolitan College’s first female-focussed IT summer camp have been gaining career inspiration from high flying female software developers at Belfast-based tech firm TotalMobile.
TotalMobile Inspires Next Generation of IT Girls
G
irls aged from 15 to 18 from across Northern Ireland including those from Sullivan Upper School attended the Belfast IT Girls event, a digital skills summer camp. Students learnt about building apps, websites and PCs as well as networking. Among the speakers were Karen Hull, Principal Software Tester and Gillian Noble, Senior Lead Software Developer at TotalMobile, which provides innovative software solutions to revolutionise the way frontline healthcare staff work. The women spoke about their own journey into the IT industry and how the company, which has much higher levels of female staff than the Northern Ireland average, has supported them in their careers. TotalMobile, one of sponsors of the event, is also providing

mentoring to students and teachers through the Belfast IT Girls event. Karen Hull said: “Since joining TotalMobile over 14 years ago I’ve moved through the ranks from software tester and test lead to become one of the company’s two principal software testers. Although it’s still a fairly male dominated industry, that is changing as the younger generation of women realise that working in IT can be a very challenging and rewarding career and one in which many more exciting opportunities will be created in the coming years. After all the first ever programmer was a female – Ada Lovelace in the 1980s! We’re extremely proud that 35% of our development staff are female – a much higher level than many of our competitors and streets ahead of the NI average of
90% male representation in the IT industry. TotalMobile recognises that having enough people with excellent IT and software development skills will be crucial in ensuring that Northern Ireland is equipped to compete globally and we are delighted to play a role in trying to fill this skills gap.” Jonathan Heggarty, Belfast Met’s Head of School of Electronic and Computing Technologies, said: “The Belfast IT Girls camp is a great opportunity for learners and teachers to hear about the diverse range of IT careers and develop important skills for themselves. Belfast Met are grateful for the support of Total Mobile and a range of other IT company sponsors and organisations including DEL, CCEA and Invest NI, without whom this camp could not take place.“
TotalMobile is also a sponsor of CoderDojo Belfast, a youth coding club founded and run by Belfast Met at its Titanic Quarter Campus. 6 LOOPMAG.NET

A beautiful summers day and a great gathering of guests, staff and clients of Simon Brien Residential all made for a fantastic start to this inaugural event at Royal Belfast Golf Club.

Package Holidays GONE WRONG By Chloé Doherty-Prosser
HUNT SOLICITORS | HOLYWOOD
Your local solicitor on what to do if your dream holiday turns into a nightmare! ou daydream about sitting by the pool, reading a good book, whilst sipping on a cocktail or drinking an ice-cold beer. You booked a great package holiday deal and you have been counting down the months, weeks, “sleeps” until it is time to head off on your travels. The day finally comes, you have successfully navigated airport security, seatbelt fastened and you can’t wait to step out onto those aeroplane steps to be greeted by 30°C and the sun splitting the sky. Unfortunately, the holiday you looked forward to and saved your hard-earned cash for has not turned out to be the sunset paradise that you were sold in the holiday brochure. The “luxury” holiday you booked is anything but, the hotel is run down and not like the pictures, there are building works you were not made aware of and the local wildlife and insects are sharing your dinner table. You are on the holiday from hell! Did you know that under the Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992, you may be able to claim compensation, from the travel agent or tour operator you booked your holiday with? Your tour operator must be honest with you as to the exact holiday they are selling. From the description in the holiday brochure or website to notifying you of any building works being carried out at your hotel. All of the major tour operators are members of ABTA, the UK’s largest travel association. The ABTA Code of Conduct is binding on all members and if you tour operator is found to be in breach of the Code of Conduct then they will be subject to disciplinary proceedings, which can result in monetary fines. For example if your tour operator is aware of building works that would seriously impair your holiday you must be offered suitable alternative accommodation; if they do not they will be in breach of the ABTA code and the Package Travel Regulations.

Y
When you are away on holiday do not hesitate in making complaints to the holiday representative on site, this way it gives your tour operator the opportunity to make things right and you still may be able to enjoy some of your holiday. If however you were provided with misleading information and your holiday is not what you expected you may be entitled to compensation. You may be able to claim compensation for the following: • ‘LOSS OF VALUE’ (THE DIFFERENCE IN VALUE BETWEEN WHAT YOU BOOKED AND WHAT YOU GOT) • OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSES • LOSS OF ENJOYMENT, INCONVENIENCE, OR DISAPPOINTMENT We hope that you have fantastic holiday wherever you are headed this year but if it has not been as expected or things have gone wrong please do not hesitate to contact Patrick Hunt, partner and head of our Litigation team.

Holywood Culture Night 2015 Friday 18th September
SAVE THE DATE
Holywood Culture Night returns on Friday 18th September and this years event is shaping up to be the biggest yet! As you may know, the event emerged from a series of meetings initiated by Holywood Shared Town which brought together businesses, community groups and statutory agencies to discuss ways of reinvigorating Holywood Town Centre
Follow on Facebook under Holywood Culture Night
C
ulture Night was one such idea which Holywood Shared Town decided to pursue. The first night took place in 2012 and now two years on the event has captured the imaginations and generosity of local residents and businesses alike. Local singer/songwriter and business woman Mari Jackson who has performed at the event over the past years, decided to become involved as an organiser once again this year in conjunction with Holywood Shared Town because last year their union proved to be a key ingredient for success. Like last year a host of great acts have been secured to perform at the one day event on Friday 18th September 2015 including soloists, duets, bands, dance troupes, poets, drama troupes, art exhibiters, children’s street entertainers, and much, much more. The event will commence early with many
businesses offering a variety of activities both inside and outside (weather permitting), including discounts on products and services. The fun starts at around 3pm with buskers and various acts dotted along the pavements of the town centre and inside some of its cafes and restaurants. The High St will then be closed off from 6pm - 9pm to allow room for many bigger events and stage acts to begin. Church Road, Sullivan Place, Hibernia Street & lower High Street will continue to offer a wealth of activities during these hours including the return of Party Golf for children amongst many other free children’s activities. A multicultural quarter will showcase the diverse nature of Holywood and will include drum workshops, film, food and dance. Holywood library will once again host a wealth of literary people including poets & storytellers. A
tea dance for the over 55’s will take place in the Holywood Non Subscribing Presbyterian Church hall (aka The Unitarian). Later on in the day, many popular bands will be playing in the local pubs and clubs until closing times. We are still looking for volunteer stewards at this event so please get in touch if you are interested. Programmes for Holywood Culture Night 2015 can be found in most local business premises throughout the town centre and the event is all FREE for you to enjoy. A huge thanks to Mari Jackson for putting together such a wonderful day and night of events for all the family. She has worked tirelessly putting this together and I know she would like to thank everyone who has helped out, donated money, time, equipment or skills. And now, the rest is very much up to you to make this one of the town’s best events EVER!

SUMMER HIGHLIGHT
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
This summer we planned a staycation. In between the rain we had a fab time. One of the highlights was our picnic to Mount Stewart. In between the showers and sheltering under trees drinking tea, we really enjoyed the beauty of the newly restored house, well kept gardens and even got to see the swans and cygnets up close! But as you can imagine, I didn’t finish my weeks holiday with sun kissed skin - so I faked it!
Faking the Summer Glow... FAST! Rapid tan by Vita Liberata is by far my fave and I love that I don’t have to sleep in it. Just keep it on for 3 hours and enjoy being perfectly bronzed! Get flawless instant bronzing on the face, neck and décolleté with Vita Liberata’s Trystal Tan, which are an essential addition to that flawless summer look. You can also enjoy a rapid spray tan at DHMB, we have loyalty cards that offer your 6th tan free! So worth it for those who love to have that healthy glow!
AUTUMN/WINTER MAKEUP
RENEWING SKINCARE SKINCARE TECHNOLOGY THAT WORKS I have to admit I love the return to routine that September ushers in. I have recently revived my skincare routine and I am looking forward to seeing the benefits throughout autumn/winter. I am going to try and boost my Vitamin D with a supplement as well as using the new Cellular Code
range from Yon-Ka. Technically this is for the 55+ but I really feel my skin has changed this past year and I can already feel it softer, more supple, fresher, dewier and even Andrew has noticed! Now to try and get the time to get booked in and get the amazing facial that goes with it.
My favourite decade - the 90s is making a comeback! Remember lumberjack shirts, DM boots, Pearl Jam and My So Called Life? I was an angsty Alanis Morissette fan back in the day and will quite happily relive some of the 90s trends! I wont do the brown lips but definitely love all the muted colours for the eyes. My brown eyeliner from last season can be resharpened. My fave is Senna Velvet eyeliner in Black Chocolate! The smudger is ideal for creating a more gritty, rock chic look. 20 LOOPMAG.NET

Just a Little Touch...
MUSINGS ON MASSAGE
By your local expert Alison Stevenson
THE SIMPLICITY OF MASSAGE
Cockney comedian Micky Flanagan told a wellknown TV chef not to be so uptight for fear of a dish not working out because, in the end, “it’s just a bit of dinner,” he could always just go and get himself a KFC bucket. And “in the end” he said, “Champagne is just fizzy, white wine.” The same can be said of massage...”in the end,” it’s just a bit of touch, running alongside everyday life.
TALES FROM CROATIA On an over-crowded beach in Croatia I have a massage in a see-through tent by a local girl who’s lived in America for years, who’s hoping to take her craft to Albania where tourism is just beginning to take off.
She yarns whilst I tune out to a back and neck rub, the lapping of the sea on the shore, the hum of a thousand holiday-makers in the background. I sit up to leave and realise a couple beneath the massage table
have been watching on and listening in. The guy tells me that it was the masseuse’s tale he’s been interested in and not in me. Cheeky but funny. Off I float, amused by the banter, untroubled by my sunburn.
In an unexpected Yurt near a school in Holywood, I had the great privilege to run a week of massage; wood-burning stove ablaze, velvet-covered walls, an old oak floor and a plastic-protected skylight (this not being Mongolia), I one day apologised to a client that I was so sorry that she’d come at lunch time when all the kids were around, thus spoiling our sacred space...to which she replied that she’d had massages in the back streets of Thailand and that children eating sandwiches wouldn’t disturb her. In parlours, shops, spas and gyms spanning sticky hot climates and ski slopes alike, the rubbing, clapping, patting, stroking, bending and stretching of legs, arms, heads, hands and feet keep the dynamic message of massage in circulation: tension is relieved, peace is restored. A service like any other. There are books on massage, you-tube tutorials, creams and oils for sale on-line and on the high street. But if you don’t want to invest, start small...take whatever cream you have at home (any moisturizing cream will do;light vegetable or olive oil if you prefer) and simply rub your own or a beloved’s hands and feet for a few minutes caringly with rhythmic strokes, with the intension of doing some good. Tummy’s can be soothed, backs treated more vigorously, fingertips onstu heads.

New Era
Mineral Cell Salts The original tissue salt formula is back! And they’re available now from Iona Shop, Holywood... New Era has been absent from the UK since 2013 when it was sold to the Italian distributor. Whilst hard compressed tablet alternatives have appeared on the market, none have matched the popularity of New Era’s unique, small “melt under the tongue” tablets. Cell Salt nutrients are more rapidly absorbed into the blood stream than any ordinary tablet can achieve when chewed, swallowed or taken with a drink. There are 12 Single Mineral Cell salts and 18 Combination Mineral Cell salt formulations in the range, all with distinct benefits. Each includes a micro amount of the essential nutrient biotin to support their absorption and effectiveness. It also contributes to the health maintenance of normal, skin and hair and the normal function of the nervous system, mucous membranes and metabolism.

The Not-So-Secret Supermodel Secret County Down company takes lingerie design to the next level IRISH GLAMOUR MODEL SHOWCASES HER INCREDIBLE FIGURE IN LATEST BRAND CAMPAIGN
N
orthern Irish model and journalist Gemma Garrett showcases her enviable figure as she is announced as the face of new Irish retailer Cinch Corsets. Waist training corsets have become the latest must-have fashion accessory from Hollywood. The corsets are designed to aid core stability and strength, literally training the waist into the desired shape. Now, Cinch Corsets based near our very own Holywood, Co. Down have taken the updated lingerie item to the next level with a range designed specifically for women to wear during exercise as celebrities such as the Kardashian sisters Instagram “selfies” wearing theirs. As a former face of Formula One British Grand Prix, Gemma (33), is known for her heartracing curves and she keeps active walking her two beloved English Bulldogs Buddy and Stella; “Like everyone I try to stay fit and stick to a healthy diet. We know those are the best ways to maintain a good weight as you get older. But wearing the Cinch Corset makes you feel like you can be even more proactive throughout a busy day, training your waist into that gorgeous hourglass shape we all want while working, walking the dogs, visiting family and friends. It fits into a busy lifestyle like mine. I loved taking part in the campaign photoshoot. The Cinch corsets have a wonderful shape and feel, you can tell the quality of the craftsmanship that went into the products. But as well as looking good alongside your special lingerie sets, it’s the confidence you get from feeling shapely and supported. You just can’t buy that if you’re a woman.” The beautiful Cinch Corsets are a modern take on a classic undergarment. Gone are the heavily boned, uncomfortable Victorian pieces, replaced with modern technological design and breathable
fabrics that are hand-stitched, individually measured to fit every woman’s shape. Businesswoman and co-founder of Cinch, Nicola McIlhagger explains why the now-booming corset company decided to create a local version of the product in the first place;“We researched worldwide when producing our corsets to ensure the highest quality and comfort for our customers, contacting a latex manufacturing plant to specifically create a fabric that wouldn’t chafe the skin. We wanted modern design, comfort and high-end materials. Outside the original goals of waist training and confidence we know the corsets improve posture, support the back and ease pain, strengthening the body’s core muscles as you sit up straighter. They are also a daily reminder of your goals, often having the side effect of helping people stick better to their healthy diets. And the latex material helps to attack unwanted fat and impurities in the body through micro-massage while you wear it. At one time, every woman wore a corset – from the cook to the lady of the house – we are simply bringing back a modern corset, which is comfortable and very quick to put on. The Cinch Corset works so well as it gives women the confidence to wear their clothes with the added support of a garment that holds you in in all the right places – gone is the dreaded muffin top, whilst we welcome a sexy, hourglass figure that will only improve as the client wears their Cinch. Since launching the brand in early June, we have literally been blown away by the response and feedback, we have stockists right across Northern Ireland – and already have a few clients from the celebrity world wanting one in every colour! Nicola concluded, “The Cinch Corset is an all-round, everyday boost for the inside and the outside!”
Cinch Corsets retail at £49.99 ORDER AT www.cinchcorsets.co.uk or from LOCAL stockists (see website for full list). 26 LOOPMAG.NET

To Style
Did you know there are several types of Cuff styles? Some cuffs are designed for wearing with cuff links, others for buttons. There are styles designed for formal wear and even a style made famous by the man himself, James Bond (Turnback Cuff). Single cuffs are becoming increasingly popular. Originally worn as a more formal style, single cuffs have a practical element to them, they can be rolled up at a moment’s notice. At The Zip Yard, Holywood we can alter your cuffs to a different style, perhaps to a more practical style or simply to prolong the life of your shirt.
