It is hoped that this will contribute towards the clubs building funds. Tickets are priced at £10 and are available online wegottickets.com or from Garry’s Barber Shop, 113 High Street, Holywood. There are also links provided through Facebook at Holywood Culture Night and an events page named The ‘all new’ Holywood Blues & Jazz Festival.Saturday night welcomes the main headliner, Alabama 3 (Acoustic & Unplugged) to the stage at the Holywood Rugby Club marquee (support TBC) and tickets are priced at £17.50 from Garry’s Barber Shop and at www.wegottickets.com

and type in the name of the act. Tickets are selling fast and it is expected they will sell out so secure your tickets early! Event organiser Mari Jackson (of Garry’s Barber Shop 9042 5262) has a mammoth task on her hands but is welcoming the challenge to once again put Holywood firmly on the map for all the right reasons. Mari who is working voluntarily on the project, is appealing for any volunteer stewards to help her out at HRC on the Friday & Saturday nights. Mari is also appealing to local businesses to help her finance the project (as they did for Holywood Culture Night) and in turn they will be heavily advertised (to over 15,000 people) on social media, and in a film of the event for Youtube. “Attracting crowds to the town centre can have huge benefits for our economy. Of course some traders will benefit more than others, but at the very least, brand awareness is being heightened. It is my desire to grow this festival to the maximum scale possible within the next five years so that it becomes widely known & accepted as a wonderful and highly memorable music weekend. Traders can be a part of this by donating to the funds, displaying posters in their windows and providing programmes for all their customers. In so doing, they are effectively helping themselves to more business in the future”.

HEALTH BEAUTY WELLBEING LONG LASTING TAN
At DHMB we have completely fallen in love with the latest product from Vita Liberata. Trystal is a pure mineral bronzer with long lasting self tan results for a beautiful,

natural-looking medium tan that lasts for up to 5 days. Oil-free with micronised crystals for sheer, lightweight bronzing coverage and added DHA for a lasting tan result.
In all honesty, the colour is beautiful and although I didn’t get 5 days of developed tan I just loved the sun kissed glow it gave me and it totally covered any uneven tone in my skin. At DHMB we love My Sisters Closet blog and the before and after just shows how stunning it is.
BEAUTIFUL BELLE OF THE BALL
We were also super excited to see Cinderella in the cinema. - especially as Morgan Taylor were the nail polish sponsors! They designed a beautiful
collection that was launched at the same time as the film! We have loved every one of these colours and I haven’t had Ella of a Girl off my nails! Totally beautiful.
PLANNING ON TRAVELLING? True Grace have launched a beautiful new range of toiletries called True Being, perfect treat for someone about to jet off (or a thoughtful gift for someone going into hospital). It includes body wash, body lotion, shampoo and conditioner and I especially love the touch of including a scented leaf to bring instant fragrance on your travels and a reminder of home, all contained in a hand-printed drawstring wash bag. Designed and produced in the UK! As you may have seen in last months Loop Magazine at DHMB we were having an event to raise funds for Crossroads Young Carers Project. They are the first charity in NI to recognise and provide support for children who everyday are playing the vital role in caring for a family member who may be ill, disabled, suffering mental health problems or an addiction to alcohol or drugs. We had a super turnout from clients and people popping in to join us for treats and treatments. So thank you to all who supported DHMB and Crossroads! A total of £500 was raised and we plan to keep going!

IONA: A WAY OF LIFE
Iona in 1999
Like in any other town, people change, families grow, new generations come through and in that time the landscape of the high street takes on many different forms. But some roots of Holywood have remained, none more so than Heidi from Iona whose shop recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. We caught up with Heidi to reflect on her journey to Church Road.
H
eidi arrived here from Switzerland in 1972. “I had applied to a social workers school at home but was too young so they advised me to go to places that would give me practical experience. Camphill had offered volunteer students places working with special needs children. I looked at all the addresses and chose Glencraig where I stayed for 3 months and never went back!” Following that they offered Heidi a 3 year training course and at the end of it she would be fully qualified. Heidi met her husband in Camphill but after 10 years the relationship sadly ended in 1984 and she nearly went back to Switzerland. “We are still friendly these days, but it at the time it was very difficult.” But positivity soon emerged as an opportunity arose to take over a health food shop in town. “The shop was owned by Jack McClelland and above was a coffee shop. My ex husbands brother was a chef and was a bit lost in Holland where he was working, so he came over and we approached these people and asked if they’d be ready to pass it over... and they were! We took it over on the same day and thats why we gave it the same name Iona as we wanted to do something together, albeit it as separate entities.” Heidi had knowledge of health foods from her upbringing. Her grandfather had a market garden and they grew their own vegetables and lived healthily, very much a Swiss way of life. Plus in Camphill they used natural treatments under the

CELEBRATING 30 YEARS

guidance the resident German doctor who Heidi found inspiring. “The shop’s roots came out of all that. I changed things quite quickly in terms of stock. At the time some other new shops opened locally and in Bangor and Belfast. We all ordered together, shared deliveries and are still good friends. It was lovely. I still feel Holywood is like that - shops look after each other and send customers each others way. “ Heidi recently hosted a party in Rayanne House to celebrate the shop’s 30th anniversary with her brother and cousin flying in and friends and colleagues from the local health food shops came along too. “We had a beautiful meal and watched a short film which was made about the shop. It was a wonderful evening.” The shop’s produce has changed over the 30 years but the ethics and ethos have remained constant. And one other vital element that hasn’t changed, is Heidi. Iona is her life. “My plan is to keep going until I can’t! I work very long hours but I love it. I like the people and I like packing the shelves - Swiss style! In a way the job has so many different aspects. Sometimes people see me working very late in the night. But if I had to fit my work into 9-5, I would be very stressed and I couldn’t give people my time. Very often people come to see me after their doctor and I talk to them or check out a rash and that is time… and I like to give it to people. Camphill was a 24 hr job and I think I have learnt that I don’t separate life and work, for me it’s just one. “

LOCAL SLIMMER’S WEIGHT LOSS SEES THEM GAIN NEW CAREER! Your local Slimming World Consultant is one of the UK’s top slimmers – and she wants to share her weight loss secrets!
R
ebecca Ruth Morrison has lost an incredible 10 stone with Slimming World and was so impressed that in October she started running her own group to help others. Recently she attended Slimming World Consultant Slimmer of the Year Final with a chance to win the national competition. Rebecca Ruth joined in June 2013
and slimmed down from a size 26 to a size 10 in just over a year. She says: “My weight was affecting my health and my self-confidence and I knew I needed to make a change. Joining Slimming World was the best decision I’ve ever made – not only did I lose weight but I got a brand new career that I love too.” The 24 year-old lost weight following Slimming World’s Food Optimising eating plan, which encourages slimmers to lose weight without ever going hungry by filling up on healthy foods like fruit and veg, pasta, rice, potatoes, lean meat, fish and fat-free dairy. Rebecca Ruth also became more active, taking up walking, and is doing the Belfast 8 mile marathon walk. After losing weight, Rebecca Ruth opened her own group at Knocknagoney. She says: “I found people were always asking how I’d lost my weight and I loved telling them all about Slimming World, so it
made sense to turn that into a career. The hours are flexible and there are great rewards for supporting others to achieve their weight loss goals, not to mention the huge satisfaction I get out of helping people to feel better about themselves. The training I’ve had from Slimming World is second to none and has given me a fantastic grounding in how to support members with care, compassion and understanding. Before Slimming World I’d tried every which way to lose weight on my own and never really had much success. It’s a big thing to admit that you can’t do it by yourself and I was really nervous about joining the group, but there was no need to feel that way because everyone was so friendly. In the weekly group we all shared our experiences and advice and now I try to create that same atmosphere in my group.” Contact Rebecca Ruth on 07576 895195 or visit slimmingworld.com

My top ‘Sunsmart’ tips are:
• Seek shade between 11.00am – 3.00pm and reduce your exposure to the sun at this time. • Make sure you never burn. • Aim to cover up with a T-shirt, hat and sunglasses. • Remember to take extra care with children • Use sunscreen with minimum factor of 15+ and apply liberally. These measures are essential, not just when travelling to holiday destinations but in relatively milder weather conditions locally. I hope you all have an enjoyable and a ‘Sunsafe’ Summer.

ON THE MOVE? So, with this increased activity, what happens if you want to move house in time for the Summer holidays? Darren Rainey from Hunt Solicitors is at hand. Darren is a partner in Hunt Solicitors and is head of the Property department...
“Springtime is traditionally a good time to look for a new property and the brighter nights make it easier to get out & about and start looking. But please remember - once you have agreed a price for your new property this is only the beginning of the legal process.”
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE? This depends on whether your purchase is a one off transaction or in a chain where the seller needs to buy on etc. A cash purchase of a vacant property will often be much quicker than if a mortgage is required. Subject to these variables it will usually take about six to ten weeks from going ‘Sale Agreed’ to complete the move from start to finish. We will always work to minimise delay but should a chain be involved unfortunately we can only go as fast as the slowest in that chain.
If my lender has commissioned a survey should I pay for another? The familiar sentiment ‘buyers beware’ springs to mind and it is 24 LOOPMAG.NET
LOCAL LEGAL INFO - ON THE HOUSE important to know what exactly you are buying before you make any legal commitments. These things need to be checked out as they can’t be raised post purchase. Whilst a valuation survey is carried out by the lender to make sure the property is worth the price you’re paying before they approve the mortgage. It is not an extensive survey and will not necessarily identify all the repairs or maintenance that might be needed. It is therefore advisable to commission a property survey to identify any issues prior to your purchase so as to avoid incurring further costs after completion which you hadn’t anticipated.
What about fixtures and fittings – what’s included in the price? This is something you should discuss via the estate agent from the outset. They may help you negotiate a price with the seller should you, as the buyer, wish to incorporate things such as blinds, garden furniture or kitchen utilities. A full list of usual fixtures and fittings is obtained as part of the conveyancing process and effectively forms part of the contract once agreed.
DO I PAY A DEPOSIT? Generally as a rule of thumb a Deposit is not required but there are exceptions to this in practice as a Deposit is payable in respect of New Builds and Repossessions.
HOW DO I GO ABOUT PAYING STAMP DUTY? Stamp Duty now known as Stamp Duty Land Tax is now paid via your solicitor so we will take care of filling your tax return upon completion and forwarding your
payment where required. Given recent government changes there are big savings to be made so please don’t hesitate to give us a call and discuss this in more detail.
WHAT ABOUT HIDDEN CHARGES? We have no ‘hidden charges’ as a full quotation is provided prior to our being instructed by you. This details not only our professional fee but gives a breakdown of the outlay which can be expected should you proceed with your purchase. This takes into account those things which can be overlooked when buying a property such as the search fees, registration and stamp duties following completion. We also provide an information pack upon initial instruction which explains this in further detail.
SHOULD I GET A WILL? In short, the answer is yes. A house is a valuable asset and even if you have a Mortgage with Life Insurance a Will should be put in place to make sure your assets go to who you wish to have them. This is something we can take care of for you when dealing with your conveyance. So if you are thinking of moving home, or even are thinking of remortgaging your home, and need a solicitor experienced in residential conveyancing, get in touch with Hunt Solicitors on telephone 028 9042 8600, email info@huntsolicitors.com or visit www.huntsolicitors.com. BEST COMMUNITY RENEWABLE ENERGY PROJECT
GREEN MACHINE Holywood green organization wins big at 2015 Action Renewables Association Awards!
H
olywood’s Camphill Community Group Glencraig was among ten local businesses and organisations to receive commendations by Action Renewables for their work in furthering the renewables industry and outstanding renewables practice in Northern Ireland at this year’s Action Renewables Association Awards sponsored by Tughans Solicitors and electricity supplier Vayu. Now in their seventh year, these prestigious industry awards received their highest entry rate to date this year, further supporting the belief that renewable energy is growing in popularity and practice
across Northern Ireland. Camphill Community Glencraig, winner in the category of Best Community Renewable Energy Project, is a special community and charity where some of the most vulnerable members of society live. The community at Glencraig has built a central boiler-house for a 1MW Urbas wood biomass boiler capable of burning wood biomass of up to 65% moisture and enables the community to use locally-sourced low grade virgin wood biomass. The innovative thinking displayed by Camphill Community Glencraig has enabled them to benefit financially from reduced heat overheads while
also reducing the community’s carbon footprint. Speaking on behalf of Action Renewables, Director Michael Doran said, “Judging by the increasingly diverse range of entries received for this year’s Action Renewables Awards, it is safe to say that renewables are widely embraced by businesses and organisations across Northern Ireland who are not only looking to reduce their environmental impact but are also encouraged by the significant cost savings which are associated with ‘going green.’” Awards were presented during a gala luncheon at the Belfast Harbour Commissioner’s Office on Friday 27th March.
