a new take on their classic uniform. At times this season, Loras will wear a new purple helmet in combination with their existing tradition colors, puple, gold, and white. Additionally, Helminiak has created a pride sticker program where studentathletes have the opportunity to showcase their achievements on their helmets.
LORAS PICKED EIGHTH IN IOWA CONFERENCE ...
Iowa Conference coaches have picked the Duhawks to finish in eighth place this season, coming off a winless conference campaign in 2013. The position doesn’t worry Helminiak, however, because he knows that a winning program isn’t built overnight. More than 60 student-athletes new to Loras join the squad this fall and Helminiak is confident that fans will see results out of these newcomers.
DUHAWKS BUILD CONFIDENCE WITH SCRIMMAGE WIN ...
In a preview to the 2014 Loras College football season, the Duhawks took down Concordia University Wisconsin by a score of 13-10 in a two-quarter scrimmage Saturday afternoon in the Rock Bowl. The Duhawks limited the defending Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference champions to very few opportunities throughout the afternoon. The Duhawk offense looked balanced and fluid, as it was their first look against another team as they continue to learn new offensive coordinator Jake Olsen’s system. With added depth at all positions, the 2014 offense looks promising to become a threat in the Iowa Conference. On the defensive side of the ball, the team was led by junior Wes Bowers as he hauled in the only turnover of the afternoon with an interception. Throughout the scrimmage the Duhawks swarmed to the ball and pressured the Concordia Wisconsin quarterbacks.
CRYSTAL-CLEAR HIGH-DEFINITION ...
For the fans that are unable to attend Friday’s match, they’ll be treated to a first-class ticket to the first high-definition online stream produced by Loras College Athletics. During the offseason, thanks largely in part to an anonymous donation, the Loras College Athletic Communications Department upgraded its hardware and technology and will now provide high-definition broadcasts of its home contests all season long.
