2014 LORAS COLLEGE WOMEN’S LACROSSE GAME NOTES

QUICK HITS LORAS EARNS FIRST EVER CONFERENCE WIN … The Duhawks earned their first ever

Midwest Women’s Lacrosse Conference victory with an 11-7 win over crosstown rival Dubuque. Following the win, the Duhawks dropped a close one to Beloit before bouncing back to take down Fontbonne 14-4.

A GOALKEEPER SCORES A GOAL ... Freshman Claire Sheahan earned a day off against Beloit College last Wednesday. She made the most of the opportunity to play the field, scoring a goal in the Duhawks 14-8 loss to the Buccaneers.

NEW RECORDS FOR THE RECORD BOOK … In a 14-4 victory over Fontbonne on Saturday,

Loras continued to add to the new records established in the early goings of the 2014 season. The 14 goals scored are a program-high along with the 10 goal spread. Of the 14 goals, Kaitlyn Kutsch turned in her second hat-trick of the season while sophomore Shauna Weber and junior Gina Dacy scored their first goals of the season. Five Duhawks found the back of the net in the win, breaking the previous record of four.

SHEAHAN LEADING THE WAY IN NET … After boasting a .654 save percentage last week,

freshman Claire Sheahan jumped up in the conference statistical standings going 2-1. Sheahan moved into the top five in goals against average (11.06). Last week’s impressive save percentage boosted her into first and improved her season percentage to .531. Totaling 34 saves last week, she is now just three behind the conference leader in saves for the season with 76.

COACH’S CORNER Goetz enters her second season with the Duhawks as head coach. She lead the Duhawks in their inaugural season after being named the first head coach in program history on January 5, 2011. Goetz played at NCAA Division III University of Redlands in Redlands, California. She graduated with a degree in Psychology after a four year career that included playing two positions and two seasons as a cocaptain. Following her time in Redlands, Goetz helped start the program at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin as an assistant coach. While with the Lady Reds, she earned a master’s degree in Education (Counseling). “I am extremely appreciative and proud to join the Duhawk family and am very excited to get started,” Goetz said after being named to the position. “I’m looking forward to establishing a competitive lacrosse program at Loras College and believe we have all the right components to achieve success.”
