DUHAWKS STUNNED ON SENIOR DAY...

In what was supposed to be a celebratory day for this year’s senior class, the Loras Women’s Soccer team suffered a 3-nil setback to Wartburg College on Saturday, pushing themselves out of a top-two spot in the upcoming Iowa Conference Tournament. Wartburg gained the upperhand early on off a corner kick in the 14th minute that the Duhawks were unable to clear out of the box. The Knights relentlessly attacked the Duhawks in the opening 45 minutes taking six of eight shots on goal. Hannah Wilson performed under pressure making six saves while the offense struggled to find a presence only managing two shots. Wartburg didn’t relent in the second half finding their second goal in the 62nd minute on another corner kick. In the 82nd minute, the Knights further cemented their lead with their third goal of the night when Alyssa Hewitt beat Riley O’Neill inside the penalty area and blasted her shot into the back of the net. The loss marked the first time the Duhawks have lost to the Knights since September 27, 2008. It dropped Loras to 10-7 on the year and 4-2 in conference play.

UNFAMILIAR POSITION...

This season marks the first time the Duhawks have not been the Iowa Conference Regular Season Champion since 2009. In 2009, Loras was beaten out by Luther and University of Dubuque for a third place finish with a record of 5-1-2 in conference play. Luther finished the regular season at 6-1-1 for the first place finish followed by UD 14 6-2-0 for second place.
