DUHAWKS DROP FIRST IIAC GAME SINCE 2009...

The loss against University of Dubuque on Wedensday, October 1, marked the first tieme the Duhawks have lost to an Iowa Conference opponent since 2009. Fittingly, it was the Spartans who handed the Duhawks the loss on October 21, 2009 2-1 in double overtime. In 2009, Dubuque gained the upper hand early on in the 7’ and the Duhawks struggled the remainder of the game to find an equalizer. In the 73’, Lisa Waltz evened the score with an unassisted goal warranting overtime. Much like Wednesday’s game, neither team could gain the upper hand in the first overtime despite Dubuque outshooting Loras 3-1. Ultimately, Dubuque found the game-winner in the 106’ minute. The 2013 women’s soccer graduating class did not lose a conference game in their time at Loras. The upcoming conference matchups will be important for the Duhawks for them to prove themselves against the remainder of their Iowa Conference opponents. In the next three weeks, the Duhawks will finish out their conference games for the season including taking on Wartburg at home on October 25. Besides University of Dubuque, Wartburg is the Duhawks biggest conference opponent. The two teams are 3-0-2 in the past five years with Loras taking the upperhand in the past two years and tying 1-1 in double overtime in 2011.
