Retention Phase
#retainers4life For all of our patients, retention is a lifelong commitment and retainers must be worn as prescribed to maintain ideal treatment results. Many factors will contribute to the stability of your bite. Everything from growth patterns to muscular adaptability, even finger-biting habits, can affect your dental future. The dynamics of your mouth determine how your teeth move. The Retention Phase When we remove your braces, you will enter the retention phase of orthodontic treatment. We will take a set of final records (pictures, x-rays, and study models) and evaluate the orientation of your wisdom teeth. Retention is a Lifelong Commitment To preserve the benefits you have received, you must maintain a careful home oral hygiene program. Your retainers should be worn full-time for the first three days and then every night while you sleep. If you lose or break a retainer, please notify us as immediately. If you are without retainers for even a short amount of time your teeth may shift or move. Please remember to bring your retainers with you to every appointment. If you have not had a complete dental examination and cleaning within the last six months, contact your family dentist and schedule an appointment.
Will My Teeth Relapse? Retention is a lifelong commitment. Your teeth can move or shift anytime in your life. Once your wisdom teeth have either been extracted or in rare cases erupted you will be placed on a Decrease Retainer Wear schedule. This will gradually decrease your retainer wear to weekly or monthly to maintain your treatment results. You should ALWAYS have a set of retainers that fit your teeth properly to maintain your ideal treatment results.
