My Visual Appendix Louise Fielding

My Visual Appendix Proposal Essay Abstract This essay will explore designer’s opinions on using materials and art and crafts tools to create design, opposed to designers using digital resources such as Adobe Photoshop, After Effects and Illustrator. It will also discuss whether designers are relying on digital means so much that the practical element is lost; a little about the history of how technology has influenced the designers and creators over time; and whether or not there should be a balance between the two. To create different designs for each brief, we work in different environments due to the materials, studio space and software we have and which we are provided with, considering these factors, they change the way we think about our ideas and designs and so we churn out different outcomes. In particular, the use of a digital method opposed to a physical method would change the thought process of our idea generation and construction of ideas.

Visual Appendix: Aims and Objectives Outline aims and objective of your visual appendix. What design/animation outcomes do you want to achieve? Think about your essay and how it relates to your practice. I have intention of achieving a set of finished small projects presented in this booklet. My goal is to show the differences and similarities between using digital and physica methods and the different production proces each piece of work takes. Also I want to have these works to be produced under a time limit to put presseure on the thought process and see whether this affects the outcome of the two methods. The works that i produce will be based on miro-briefs given by other individuals. Furthermore these briefs will be challening to do in a time limit, and will be done often so I want to see if over time, wether it affects the way i think or produce/create work.

Methodology Describe an experimental methodology that will inform the production of the vixual appendix. What rules will you follow? Think back to the theme of ‘open works’ and ‘performance’ that we considered last term. It is similar to Stefan Sagmeisters work when he took a year without clients and he challenged himself to create a vinyl cover before midday everyday to challenge himself. So the micro briefs I recieve will be completed by me and each brief will have a physical outcome and a digital outcome. These outcomes that are produced will be recorded and placed in a book with a summary of the brief, I will record the process and the outcome.

My Visual Research Question is Depending on conditions of each micro-brief, how will these conditions affect my practice digitally and physically?
