Nundah local Gaylia Lee, from This is Me Photography embarked on an ambitious project to take 52 portraits in 52 weeks in 2021. She spent the year meeting locals, taking their photos and sharing their stories. Her subjects – people who live, work or love the local area – are our cover stars for this issue. Gaylia decided to start the challenge to help her gain more confidence and live courageously, while getting comfortable with rejection. “Every single participant surprised and delighted me by sharing their experiences and their willingness to be photographed,” says Gaylia. “With 52 portraits, I was able to share what an amazing community we have in images and words and capture a time capsule of Nundah 2021.” Gaylia said that it was surprising and beautiful to be reminded that regardless of our differences, we are all very similar.

Brisbane Circus Centre to Open in 2022

The first home Trial Match for 2022 will kick off on Saturday, 19 February at Bishop Park, with the first official home game against the Dolphins on Sunday, 27 March.

Flipside Circus raised over $115,000 in its inaugural Giving Day to go towards the purposebuilt training centre and performance space.

Norths Devils is also excited to be fielding their first ever statewide women’s team in 2022 in the U19’s competition. The club is looking forward to being part of the journey for the next generation of women in rugby league.

The new centre will open at Northshore in Hamilton and has been designed with the needs of Brisbane’s thriving circus community as well as the training needs of Flipside Circus’ young artists.

“I was often amused by the parents who answered similarly. Most proud of? Kids. Biggest challenge? Kids.” Gaylia is already planning her next project, and wants to inspire and support others who are working on their own project… or even starting a movement! “Maybe you’re starting that side hustle… finally! If so, I want to photograph you and share your project. Let’s inspire and support each other,” says Gaylia.
