Entries open for the second annual Nundah Film Festival Brisbane residents are encouraged to get creative and submit their entry into the second annual Nundah Film Festival (previously North Brisbane Film Festival). Crystal Hager, organiser of the event, said a lack of film festivals in Brisbane led her to start her own local festival. “The main reason behind starting the Nundah Film Festival was to help support young, emerging filmmakers from Brisbane and across Australia to promote their short films”. Entries are accepted for short documentary and short narrative (both 15 minutes maximum length) and music clips (4 minutes maximum length). A small entry fee (between $2.50 - $10) is required for submission, with all proceeds

going to the Rotary Club of Nundah. A number of entries have already been received, with mystery dramas proving to be a popular focus for young filmmakers. The final deadline for entries is the 25 December, 2017 and the screening of the finalists will take place at BCC Cinemas Toombul on February 6, 2018. “We are thrilled to be holding the Nundah Film Festival at BCC Cinemas Toombul and look forward to watching some amazing local talent,” says Crystal.

Local Artist’s Singapore exhibition Contemporary impressionist, Vicki Corser, from Wavell Height’s Gallery Fifty One, has held her first solo exhibition in Singapore at the Australian High Commission. “I was honoured to be given the opportunity to have a solo exhibition,” says Vicki. “The size of the space at the Australian High Commission was enormous, so extremely large art pieces were needed to fill the walls.” Vicki, who normally produces large-scale art pieces, had to create her largest piece for the exhibition. “The largest piece on display was 4m x 4m,’ says Vicki. ‘I had a sailmaker in Brisbane prepare the unstretched canvas for me.”

The exhibition features Australian flora and fauna, including fish, turtles and rainbow lorikeets, showcased in bold colours and textures. “My love for flora made it so easy to create,” says Vicki. “The combination of vivid colour, lines and shapes that are found in flowers is fabulous.” “My love for the beach is also an integral inspiration in my paintings. The colour, movement and compositions all reflect my energy for the outdoors, beach and reef.” Since returning from Singapore, Vicki has not slowed down, and is busy with several pieces for new homes and producing a new range of art on silk scarves and fabric for upholstery and cushioning. Is Pilates right for you?

Marketing Property - Bang for Buck

There are two main types of Pilates - Standard Pilates and Clinical Pilates. Standard Pilates is good for general conditioning and is suitable for noninjured people. It is usually taught by Pilates instructors. Each participant performs the same exercises - they may be modified, but may not be appropriate for someone with an injury. Clinical Pilates is taught by trained Physiotherapists and incorporates specific exercises, which match a patient’s condition or injury. Chronic injuries are due to motor (muscle) and neural (nerve) imbalances, which need to be assessed before beginning a Pilates program. The Clinical Pilates method considers “Neural Drive” (how your brain communicates with your muscles to enable efficient movement) and “Directional Preference” (which position your body works best in). Your Physio will complete a detailed assessment and individually tailor your Clinical Pilates program - there is no one-size-fits-all approach!

Marketing property can be like wrapping Christmas presents. Do you go all out on sparkly wrapping and bows to help create a wonderful appealing experience? Or does the recipient love it no matter how it’s wrapped, if the gift is the right one for them? The traditional agents will tell you the wrapping counts. They’ll say big shiny presents (ads), sitting on top of the pile of gifts will deliver more joy ($$$). They won’t admit they’ve signed a contract with realestate.com.au to wrap (advertise) every present under the tree the same way (upgraded ad). How is that working in a sellers interest and creating a point of difference?

It can also improve sporting performance and other health issues. See one of our Physiotherapists at The Joint to get started today. The Joint Nundah | 9/1220 Sandgate Road, Nundah www.thejointnundah.com | info@thejointnundah.com |

What’s the best wrapping for you and your present? Best wishes to all from Mark Roemermann & Andrew Emms. Phone Mark on 0413 877 230 or email markroemermann@atrealty.com.au

100%

Clinical Pilates will help with: • Back and neck pain • Sporting injuries • Musculoskeletal problems

Is it worth it? The results are in. Upgrading advertising to big expensive campaigns only guarantees agents and third-party suppliers joy. They’ve forgotten that even the gold coin donation wrapping can be as well received.

A Message From Your Local Councillor As a very busy 2017 draws to a close it is useful to reflect on some of the events and projects undertaken during the year. The annual movies and fireworks in Boyd Park was a big success this year with over a thousand people attending the event. On the same weekend, the Nundah Village Street Festival was held and this too was a resounding success.

There have been a range of projects completed or commenced in the Nundah area including a significant upgrade at Oxenham Park, additional lighting in Boyd Park, garden upgrades in Nundah Village, and commencement of the Shaw Road intersection upgrade. The Council has continued to undertake a range of regular projects and activities such as road resurfacing, footpath upgrades, park maintenance, infrastructure projects and library-based programs. We have a range of projects under investigation or design for delivery in 2018 encompassing intersection improvements, streetscape enhancements, infrastructure replacement, and park upgrades. I wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and safe New Year and look forward to catching up in 2018. Adam Allan | 284 St Vincents Road, Banyo | Ph 3403 2210

Thank-You As we come to the end of another very busy year at the Nundah Neighbourhood Centre and Community Legal Service, the staff and Committee would like to say a big thank-you to those individuals and businesses that supported the Centre over the last 12 months.

We would like to give special thanks to the Nundah community. We would like to give special thanks to the Nundah community, who provide so much ongoing support to the Neighbourhood Centre. Over the year we have had businesses, community leaders and individuals provide support and assistance with many of our activities and events including the Community Art Show, Nundah Village Street Festival, Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month, Community Christmas Party, Family Support Program and the Food Relief Program. Local businesses have also played a significant role in supporting the Centre and we would like to particularly acknowledge the Norris Motor Group Inc who have supported the food relief program throughout the year and have donated milk, tea, coffee and biscuits each week so we can continue to offer a welcoming cuppa to all who attend our Centre. Also thank-you to those businesses that have provided sponsorship and donations for events such as the Art Show and the Nundah Village Street Festival. Thank-you to our local representatives, Adam Allan, Councillor for Northgate Ward, Tim Nicholls, member for Clayfield, Leanne Linard, member for Nudgee, and Wayne Swa, Federal member for Lilley. All of our local representatives have been great champions of the Centre and we greatly appreciate their recognition of the valued role we play in our local community. We would also like to extend our appreciation and gratitude to all of the volunteers at the Nundah Neighbourhood Centre and Community Legal Service. Volunteers continue to play a very significant role at the Centre and without the commitment of their time, skills and creativity the many programs offered would not be available. Finally, thank-you to Ben Tibben and the team at Loving Nundah who very generously donate two professionally edited pages in each issue of the Loving Nundah Magazine to the Centre.

On Monday, November 20, staff, volunteers, community members and representatives from community organisations and government gathered to officially launch the new Domestic Violence and Family Law Clinic at the Nundah Neighbourhood Centre. This new clinic will provide legal advice, information and referrals to women who have experienced domestic and/or family violence. The launch included an Acknowledgement to Country by Teara and Angel, Year 11 students from Mary MacKillop College and a speech from Leanne Linard MP, Member for Nudgee. Ms Linard shared her own challenges in supporting constituents and community members who have experienced domestic violence to access support, information and advice. The event also gave an opportunity to acknowledge and thank the staff, volunteers and other stakeholders who contributed many hours putting together the tenders and advocating for continued funding for the generalist legal service and the additional funding granted for the clinic. The Domestic Violence and Family Law Clinic Solicitor, Linda Miller, is able to provide legal advice to women about domestic violence and family law matters and where appropriate provide referrals to other legal and social support services for further assistance and support. The service is by appointment only. To enquire or to make an appointment to see the Solicitor, please contact the Centre on 3260 6820. The Domestic Violence and Family Law Clinic is proudly funded by Federal and State Government, distributed by the Attorney General of Qld under the National Partnership Agreement.

Room Hire Available in Nundah The Community Living Association has two air-conditioned, private rooms available for rent, by the half-day, full-day or week at Nundah Street, Nundah. The reasonably priced rooms are located close to the railway station and are approximately 4m x 3.5m in size. The rooms are located on the mezzanine level of a newly renovated boutique gym, and while noise is minimal during business hours it may not be suitable for counselling or therapeutic work needing absolute quiet. If you would like more information or a tour, please contact Monique on 0499 557 798.

Seeking Donations The Christmas period can be a difficult time and one of significant financial distress for people. At the Nundah Neighbourhood Centre we regularly see individuals and families in need of financial assistance and food relief. We are seeking donations of non-perishable food items and toiletries so that we can restock our

storage cupboard and pantry in time for Christmas. The Centre also needs donations of good quality coffee cups, bowls, plates and cutlery for our twiceweekly community lunch. If you would like to assist please drop of any items to the Centre between 9am and 4.30pm Monday to Thursday.
