Brothers and sisters: You know how one must imitate us. For we did not act in a disorderly way among you, nor did we eat food received free from anyone. On the contrary, in toil and drudgery, night and day we worked, so as not to burden any of you. Not that we do not have the right. Rather, we wanted to present ourselves as a model for you, so that you might imitate us.

READINGS
REDEMPTION
The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that before Christ's Second Coming the Church will pass through a final trial that will shake the faith of many believers. The persecution that is to come will unveil the mystery of iniquity in the form of religious deception which will offer believers a solution to their problems but in reality it will lead them away from the truth (cf. CCC 675). As Catholics it would probably be more beneficial for us to stay away from all the doomsday talk concerning the end times, which flood the airwaves from various television and radio ministries. If you take to heart what is shared here from the Catechism, with a decline in both Mass attendance and vocations to the priesthood you could make the case that the faith of many has already been shaken; plus all the signs that our Lord lists in this Gospel: wars and insurrections, nations rising against other nations, kingdoms against kingdoms, powerful earthquakes, famines and plagues - one could easily make the argument that these types of things have been occurring for a long time. And that's why it's best just to continue to walk in faith and whenever the final hour arrives, so be it. We have no way of knowing the span of years it will take before all the biblical apocalyptic warnings are completed. Anyone who is now at an adult age could surely testify that the world has been pacing on a moral decline since their childhood. Christ speaks of persecutions and being seized and thrown into prison while some will be put to death. Most of the early Fathers agree that this futuristic event was actually not all that far in the future and was meant specifically for Christ's chosen twelve; and most of them were indeed martyred. Our focus should stay on Jesus and being the holy men and women He called us to be; and try not to get all caught up in the hoopla concerning the end of the world, except only to be prepared for that day by being constantly in a state of grace. If we are truly making efforts to be genuine disciples of Christ, then while we wait for our Lord's return, we can, as proclaimed at Mass, "wait in JOYFUL HOPE for the coming of our Savoir, Jesus Christ." 1
First Reading – Malachi 3:19-20a There is a great truth about suffering in this passage of scripture. The prophet Malachi describes suffering as a blazing fire. For the unfaithful, suffering is a fiery oven that consumes them. But for the faithful, suffering is a blazing sun that energizes them. Second Reading - 2 Thessalonians 3:7-12
St. Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians reminds us that the church is no protected environment. Things can go wrong in the church as surely as they can go wrong in the world. The church needs the same divine assistance and spiritual endurance as the world. Gospel - Luke 21:5-19 Jesus painted a dark picture of the future of his followers. They would be caught up in the chaos caused by false prophets, world wars, food shortages, epidemic diseases, and killer earthquakes. But he promised that those who patiently endure these trials will be saved.
Next Sunday’s Readings (Cycle C) Our Lord Jesus Christ, King Of The Universe 1st Reading: 2 Samuel 5:12, 1:6 2nd Reading: Colossians 1:12-20 Gospel: Luke 23:35-43
Please pray for the sick of our parish, especially…….

OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP Wednesday following the 7am Mass MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS DEVOTION Friday following the 7am Mass
• DIVINE MERCY DEVOTION & CHAPLET Friday 10:45 am, followed by Rosary & Benediction Devotions of the Catholic Church are ways of showing our love to the Holy Trinity, the Blessed Virgin Mary, the angels and the saints. These can be done privately or as communal, oral prayer. The Church has always encouraged private, personal prayer such as meditation, in which the mind, in God’s presence, thinks about God and divine things. The times listed above indicate when the communal, oral devotions should begin in order to allow time afterwards for meditation and personal reflection, including 15 minutes of silence before Mass begins. No group or communal prayers will be allowed outside of the schedule in order to respect the time for personal private prayer. Ministries and apostolates are encouraged to help with these devotions. Please call the parish office to indicate your interest.

For those who are baptized and have not been Confirmed or have not received their First Holy Communion, you are welcome to join us in preparing to complete your Sacraments of Initiation. JOIN US FOR FAMILY MASS st
rd
Family Mass is on the 1 and 3 Sunday of each at 9:00 a.m. During the Family Mass, the homily is addressed to families and to the children, giving them a better understanding of the Scripture readings. The children read Scripture that is from a Children's Lectionary. Our next Family Mass will be on November 19 at 9:00 a.m.
There is dismissal for Children's Liturgy of the Word at the 9:00 a.m. Mass on the other Sundays. Father will invite the children forward for a blessing. The children proceed to the reception area where a church like atmosphere is provided for them to hear the Word of God through prayers, song and readings that they are able to better understand and learn how to be disciples of Jesus. Children will rejoin their families at the Preparation of the Gifts (Offertory). Faith Formation classes will follow after the 9am Mass. rd
We are still looking for Catechists and Aides for 3 th to 7 grades.
Please join the Faith Formation Team. See Yvonne Toma or Iwalani White for more information at the refreshment table or call the office at 941-0675.
