Where Caring People Are Cared For
32nd Sunday In Ordinary Time “Mystery & Reality”
November 6, 2016
READINGS
Glory & Power
With their riddle about seven brothers and a childless widow, the Sadducees in today's Gospel mock the faith for which seven brothers and their mother die in the First Reading.
First Reading – 2 Maccabees 7:1-2, 9-14
The Maccabean martyrs chose death—tortured limb by limb, burned alive—rather than betray God's Law. Their story is given to us in these last weeks of the Church year to strengthen us for endurance—that our feet not falter but remain steadfast on His paths.
Sometimes the world around us both troubles and confuses us. But we come to times in life when the demands of faith are as clear-cut as night and day. We need no philosophical arguments to convince us that we ought to take our stand against the evils of our day, and it is crystal clear to us what some of those evils are.
The Maccabeans died hoping that the "King of the World" would raise them to live again forever (see 2 Maccabees 14:46).
Second Reading - 2 Thessalonians 2:16-3:5
The Sadducees don't believe in the Resurrection because they can't find it literally taught in the Scriptures. To ridicule this belief they fix on a law that requires a woman to marry her husband's brother if he should die without leaving an heir (see Genesis 38:8; Deuteronomy 25:5).
Faith and reason are both of great importance in today’s world. Faith may go beyond reason, but it never goes against reason. Irrationality stands on the side of evil rather than on the side of good. Those who would choose hate over love, or death over life, are confused in mind and clouded in judgment.
But God's Law wasn't given to ensure the raising up of descendants to earthly fathers. The Law was given, as Jesus explains, to make us worthy to be "children of God"—sons and daughters born of His Resurrection.
Gospel - Luke 20:27-38 or 20:27, 34-38
"God our Father," today's Epistle tells us, has given us "everlasting encouragement" in the Resurrection of Christ. Through His grace, we can now direct our hearts to the love of God. As the Maccabeans suffered for the Old Law, we will have to suffer for our faith in the New Covenant. Yet He will guard us in the shadow of His wing, keep us as the apple of His eye, as we sing in today's Psalm. The Maccabeans' persecutors marveled at their courage. We too can glorify the Lord in our sufferings and in the daily sacrifices we make. And we have even greater cause than they for hope. One who has risen from the dead has given us His word—that He is the God of the living, that when we awake from the sleep of death we will behold His face, be content in His presence (see Psalm 76:6; Daniel 12:2). 1
The world has always taunted believers with logical puzzles and disturbing questions arising out of their faith. There is no use denying that God’s ways are not always clear to us. However, in faith we know that, whatever happens, we will never be separated from God.
Next Sunday’s Readings (Cycle C) 33rd Sunday In Ordinary Time 1st Reading: Malachi 3:19-20a 2nd Reading: 2 Thessalonians 3:7-12 Gospel: Luke 21:5-19
Please pray for the sick of our parish, especially…….

Universal: Countries Receiving Refugees That the countries which take in a great number of displaced persons and refugees may find support for their efforts which show solidarity. Evangelization: Collaboration of Priests and Laity That within parishes, priests and lay people may collaborate in service to the community without giving in to the temptation of discouragement.
PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS God our Father, we thank you for calling men and women to serve in your Son’s Kingdom as sisters, brothers, religious priests, consecrated virgins, and hermits, as well as members of Secular Institutes. Renew their knowledge and love of you, and send your Holy Spirit to help them respond generously and courageously to your will. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives, and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

VETERANS DAY, NOVEMBER 11TH This holiday started as a day to reflect upon the heroism of those who died in our country's service, and was originally called Armistice Day. It fell on Nov. 11 because that is the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. However, in 1954, the holiday was changed to "Veterans Day" in order to account for all veterans in all wars. Please keep them in your prayers this Veteran’s Day,
NOTE: Sts. Peter & Paul Church will have a special Veterans Day Mass, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus at the 11am Mass on Sunday, November 6th. 3
2nd Collection: Archdiocese for the Military Services, Nov. 5-6. The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS) is the only archdiocese, or non-profit organization, that provides the Catholic Church’s full range of pastoral ministries specifically to Catholics serving in the United States Armed Forces, enrolled in U.S. Military Academies, undergoing treatment at any of the 153 Department of Veterans Affairs’ Medical Centers, working in civilian jobs for the federal government beyond U.S. borders, and the families of these populations. Programs and services vital to the unique mission and ministry of the Archdiocese include Vocations, pastoral visitation, endorsement of chaplains, Evangelization and Catechesis, Sacramental Records, Tribunal, and Veterans Affairs. While the Government is reducing the size of the Armed Forces, the world situation, as we have repeatedly and dramatically witnessed both at home and abroad, continues to make the need for a strong military more evident. It is imperative that the Catholic faithful who defend our religious freedom do not have to sacrifice theirs. CATHOLIC CARE PROJECT
Thank you for your generous contributions to our Catholic Care Project Food Drive. We collected 832 lbs. of non-perishable food and packed 64 bags for our kupuna and the vulnerable with food insecurities. 200 bags of Hugs and Kisses Project were given to the children at IHS for their Halloween Trick or Treat activity in the center. They were very grateful for our contribution that added cheers and smiles to the children. After all masses, there is an Art with Heart Project. Please decorate a grocery bag with love. ELECTION DAY IS NOV. 8TH! We strongly urge all parishioners to register, to become informed on key issues, and to vote! The Church does not support or oppose any candidate, but seeks to focus attention on the moral and human dimensions of the issues. We do not authorize the distribution of partisan political material on parish property.

These can be done privately or as communal, oral prayer. The Church has always encouraged private, personal prayer such as meditation, in which the mind, in God’s presence, thinks about God and divine things. The times listed above indicate when the communal, oral devotions should begin in order to allow time afterwards for meditation and personal reflection, including 15 minutes of silence before Mass begins. No group or communal prayers will be allowed outside of the schedule in order to respect the time for personal private prayer. Ministries and apostolates are encouraged to help with these devotions. Please call the parish office to indicate your interest.

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) For the last few decades, many adults (18+) have embarked on their own journey in faith through RCIA to become fully initiated into the Catholic Church. Sts. Peter and Paul Church will begin another RCIA process in September. This process is for those who are not baptized or baptized in another faith and are interested in joining the Catholic Church. For those who are baptized and have not been Confirmed or have not received their First Holy Communion, you are welcome to join us in preparing to complete your Sacraments of Initiation. YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY
Are you between the ages of 18 – 39, in college, married or single and wish to grow more in your faith? The Sts. Peter & Paul Young Adult Ministry cordially invites you to the Young Adult Community which meets Sundays at 7:00 p.m. after the 6:00 p.m. Mass. JOIN US FOR FAMILY MASS st
rd
Family Mass is on the 1 and 3 Sunday of each at 9:00 a.m. During the Family Mass, the homily is addressed to families and to the children, giving them a better understanding of the Scripture readings. The children read Scripture that is from a Children's Lectionary. Our next Family Mass will be on November 6 at 9:00 a.m.
There is dismissal for Children's Liturgy of the Word at the 9:00 a.m. Mass on the other Sundays. Father will invite the children forward for a blessing. The children proceed to the reception area where a church like atmosphere is provided for them to hear the Word of God through prayers, song and readings that they are able to better understand and learn how to be disciples of Jesus. Children will rejoin their families at the Preparation of the Gifts (Offertory). Faith Formation classes will follow after the 9am Mass. rd
We are still looking for Catechists and Aides for 3 th to 7 grades.
Please join the Faith Formation Team. See Yvonne Toma or Iwalani White for more information at the refreshment table or call the office at 941-0675.
