Sts. Peter and Paul Church
Saint John Chrysostom explains the symbolism of being led up a high mountain and how it impacts our spiritual life: "lt is necessary for all who desire to look upon the glory of God that they lie not down amid base pleasures, but that they be uplifted to heavenly things."
Origen, an early Church writer, adds: "Jesus is simply seen by those who do not, by the practice of virtue, ascend to the sacred mountain of wisdom; but to those who do ascend there He is no longer known as Man, but is understood as God the Word." Transfiguraiion does not mean that Jesus temporarily put aside His physical Body to reveal His Spiritual makeup; but instead He added splendor and glory to His physical Body. ln other words, this is how our Savior will appear on the Day of Judgment. The presence of Moses and Elijah represent the Law and the Prophets. Their presence teaches that the Mosaic Law is not aboiished but fulfilled by Jesus Christ. Saint Hilary believes that Moses and Elijah will be the precursors of Christ's Second Coming. This is ailuded to in the book of Revelation (Chapter 11) wilh the story of the two witnesses. Most of the early Church Fathers, however, believe that the two in Revelation are Enoch and Elijah. Peter's suggesiion of making three tents shows how overwhelmed he is by the whcle experience. Peter may have assumed that Moses and Elijah were going io stay and proclaim Jesus in His glory. lt's also possible that Peter was so caught up in the event that he became oblivious to earthly things and wished to remain on the mountain forever. ln the Old Testament, the book of Exodus (24:15) instructs us that the cloud is the visibie manifestation of Almighty God. As the cloud enveloped Moses on the mountain then, it now casts its shadow on the apostles chosen to witness Christ's Transfiguration. The Voice of the Father for cerlain is meant to be heard by the three apostles but it's also likely that the Voice could equally have been aimed at Moses and Elijah who longed to see the Messialr. Once Christ's visual glorification has passed, He commands the chosen three not to reveal what they have seen until Jesus has been raised from the dead. Following the Resurrection and Ascension of our Lord, it is the recollection of the Transfiguration that probably made these three apostles comprehend the necessity of the Cross.

Dispensattgn-frqm Abstinence from Meat on St. Patrick'sp_ay
Bishop Silva has granted a dispensation from abstinence from meat on Friday, March 17, 2017, $t. Patrick's Day, for anyone who wishes to take advantage of it. However, if one chooses to eat meat on that day, another day close to it should be chosen to abstain from meat in order to preserve the importance of Lenten penitential discipline.

WHY IS OUR FOOD COLLECTION THE 3RD WEEKEND OF EACH MONTH? Food stamps (now called the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - SNAP), given out in a lump sum at the start of each month, typically run out for many individuals and families befbre they reach the end of the month. The average family of three gets $374 a month which isn't enough Jbr a month's worth of meals.
This makes it very challenging for them to keep food on the table..., And that's not all - studies indicate that hospitals see a curious spike in admissions [towards the end of the month) for hypoglycemia, the kind of low blood sugar that can affect diabetics. The pattern is almost entirely driven by low-income patients.
Amid the well-documented long-term effects of food stamps in alleviating hunger and easing poverty, week to week it looks as if the food stamp cycle not only influences hospital admissions, but may contribute to low student test scores and even childhood negative behavior. By your generosity, our Catholic Care Project can provide individuals and fan-rilies supplemental food at their most vulnerable time of [he month - when their food stamps
have run out. We have chosen the 3.a weekend for our food collection, so your donations can give the gift of food to fill the gap until their next month of SNAP assistance

Praying the Stations of the Cross Fr. fames Martin,
SJ
For the last several years, I've made a weeklong pilgrimage to the Holy Land along with a group of pilgrims. Near the end of our time in ]erusalem, we walk the "Via Dolorosa" or "Way of the Cross," which traces the steps of Jesus, from his condemnation by Pontius Pilate to his crucifixion. The locations of some stations are nearly certain [such as the location of Calvary, the hill on which Jesus was crucified). Others are less historical fsuch as the spots where ]esus fell). In the 15tl'century, Christians in Europe began promoting the practice of praying with the stations in their Iocal parishes because few could make the trip to the Holy Land. So
what might this ancient tradition say to you?
To begin, it's not so important that every station is historical, (Veronica's wiping of f esus' face is not even in the New Testament." More important is the invitation to meditate on each of tlie stations, understanding that in their totality they are true-that is, Jesus was indeed condemned and tortured suffered and was crucified. As you meditate, you might ask what each station means for you. For example: What does it mean to have someone help you carry your cross, as Simon of Cyrene did for Jesus? Are you open to letting someone share your suffering? Each of the stations can open up a window into fesus' life, an each can be a means for Jesus to enter your life, making holy any land you are in. The Stations of the Cross is a Lenten devotion that offers lvitness to Jesus' Passion and Death. At each station, we use ollr senses and our in"ragination to reflect prayerfully upon Jesus' suffering, Death. and Resurrection, and to simply experience the visual images to ret-lect on Christ's love for us.

YOUNG ADUTT MINISTRY
On Sunday March 5th, the young adults of Sts. Peter and Paul Church finished the third and last hour of St. Bakhita movie! Though it was a cinema, her life was real, and inspired all those who watched. The young adults will continue to meet after the Sunday 6 pm mass, to discuss both Lenten (never too late to start!) and long-term activities.
The following Friday, March 17th at 6 pm they will be leading the Stations of the Cross, under the special theme of Human Tratficking.
On the last Sunday March 26th, the youngr adults will be volunteering with the Aquarium again. This time they will help get rid of invasive algae. Everyone is invited to join them. One of the new projects the young adults want, is to start offering free tutoring to help those who would like help with school subjects up to GED, or even just with English. If you know anyone who would be interested in participating, please let them know. Anyone who is interested in any of the above, please e-mail trivlalFyr@gmai!,com or txt us 30,5:898_:0378.

rinitarian theology is never simple to explain. Since the time of Christ, we've wrestled with the interrelation of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. With time and the Spirit's guidance, the Church has discovered language we believe reflects some of the mystery we call God, and
we've accepted the authority of that language. When we pray the Creed together every week, we speak of our belief in one God in three persons. However, even as we say these words, we know we have more to discover about the life of the Godhead and the unity and relationships among Father, Son, and Spirit, each ofwhom we have encountered throughout salvation history. In believing that the Trinity is one God, we have the freedom to confidently pray to any one or more of the three divine persons. However, when we pray at Mass, you'Il notice the most typical formula for prayers is to offer them to the Father, through the Son, and in (or with) the Spirit. Fr.
