love weddings. Possibly even more than weddings, I love wedding receptions. Possibly even more than the receptions, I love dancing at wedding receptions. ln my opinion, when a couple does it "right," their spirit and the music draws all kinds of people onto the dance floor. Sure, a moderate sprinkling of alcohol helps loosen inhibitions, but its mostly the couple's attitude of joy and welcome that causes the guests to come out of their shells and dance the night away alongside people they've never met.
The unifying spirit of that kind of wedding reception feels like what the Holy Spirit was doing at Pentecost and continues to do today. The description of Pentecost from Acts of the Apostles makes most lectors cringe-all those different nationalities to pronounce but the Holy Spirit brought these disparate people together into a marvelous unity. Saint Pau[ reminds us that the many individual gifts of the Spiri! not unlike wedding couples who pull aunts and cousins and college friends and pastor onto the dance floor for one fantastic Chicken Dancg draws people into unity. Are we aware of Cod's Holy Spirit urging us out of our shells, nudging us from our places of comfort into a greater unity with other parishioners, other Christians, other nationalities? Have we hesitated to join a committee, an activiry or an association because we might be different than the rest of the people there? Perhaps we've resisted a service project in a part of our city that makes us uncomfortable because the residents are poorer than we are. Where might Cod's unifying Spirit be urging you to get out and dance freely with the rest of Cod's children? Janei Esker

SERVING THE HOMEBOUND SENIORS
We are partnering with Catholic Charities in our service to elders age 60 and older. Many of our elderly Iive alone or alone most of the day and are in need of someone to visit with them on a regular basis. ln addition to friendly visits, escort services are provided to doctor visits and other pre-approved desti nations. Essentially, interested parishioners will become Catholic Charities volunteers assigned to St. Stephen Church. Catholic Charities will process applications from our parishioners and wi[[ conduclal&1/2 hour training. lf you know of someone who can benefit from these services, or if you are interested in being a volunteer, contact the church office or Catholic Charities Program Volunteer Coordinator, Maureen Caracciolo, al 527 -47 BO.

return the Eucharist to the tabernacle after adoration. Adoration of the Er,rcharist is displayed in a monstrance or simply locked in a bernacle became an important devotion during the Middle Ages. ln modern times, has increased irr popularity at the encouragernent of Pope John Paul ll. The devotion of the adoratiorr of the Eucharist can be a time of great still those who practice it. lt is never to be a substitute for the celebration of Eucharist or the reception of holy Conrmunion, but adoration as a form of prayeri rneditation, and contemplation is a valuable source of openrress to Christ, ks to us in silence.
