Thanksgiving Season approaches, the pressures of preparation, family gathering, feeling of loneliness and stress begin. 5o what do we do? Our lens in life narrows with lack of Eratitude and feelings

We grew up learning, "lt is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts zo:35). We have an inherent nature to want to give. We are made in the image of God who gave the greatest gift to us, his Only-Begotten Son Jesus. With Jesus as the head of the Church and the members (us) the body of Christ (Ephesians 3:6), how do these human feelings of wanting to give manifests itself in our lives with respect to the churchT

The lens in life becomes cle arer with better resolution on our purpose and what are our gifts. We begin to discern our gifts and how we might apply them to the church. As 5t. Paul reminds us "There are different l<inds of gifts, but the same 5pirit" (Corinthians r::4-rr).

This past Tuesday I had the privilege of attending at Liturgical Discernment service where the Hoiy Spirit was at work.l realized how my gifts of writing and teaching could be used as part of the body of Christ! lrealized also as I washed the feet of another person looking up seeing Christ dying on the cross for us, I had other opportunities to use my gifts. I could be a Hospitality Minister, a Greeter, Usher, Lector, Extraordinary Minister of Hoiy Communion. lcould serve in many different capacities. As we drive up and down parking aisles lsoking for a spot near the store where you plan to buy the gift, look into the rearview mirror. What do you see? Ourselves, we "are" the

6$SB NEWS Thifiy-second Sunday in Ordinary Time (A) Wis 6:12-16; I T'hes 4:13-18 or 4:13-14; Mt 25:1-13

As we near the end of the liturgical year and prepare for Advent, the readings get us ready for the Second Coming of Jesus by addressing our own final encounter with him. The Church summarizes the last realities each person must reflect on: death, judgment, heaven, and hell. ln short, when we die we will face personaljudgment, lf our response has been to return Jesus'love, the reward will be heaven. But if we reject Jesus, the result will be hell. This should not be a source of anxiety or fear, but rather faith, serenity, and hopeful confidence. lf we are not quite ready, now is the age of mercy, and God's grace abounds for those who seek it. It is a healthy thing to be prepared and wise. All of us know our final encounter with Jesus at the end of life is coming. lt would be foolish to ignore it or not maturely reflect on its implications. Oil is the natural resource mentioned in the Gospel because without the light and warmth that an oil lamp provided, the guests could get lost in the dark or need to abandon the wait because of the cold. As we journey through this life, awaiting the marriage feast of Jesus, our hearts can get Cimmed and icy if we are not lit by the oil of love and the warmth of the Spirit. We don't know the day or the hour when Jesus will come take us into the eternal banquet, but we know for sure that day is coming. The wise guest is the person fueled by the oil of love and ready for any eventuality. As the Boy Scout motto goes-Be Prepared. *Fr. Hunger affects old and young alike. While fixed-income kupuna, individuals with disabilities and low-income families are the most visible examples of people who struggle, hunger doesn't stop there. Hunger affects all groups of people regardless of education level, employment status or ethnicity.

IN NOVEMBER WE CELEBRATE IN THE MANY FEASTS OF THE CHURCH AND OUR FAMIIIES, ESPECIALLY THANKSGIVING, LET US CONTINUE TO REMEMBER THOSE WHO BELONG TO OUR GREATER OHANA. This food drive is sponsored by our Parish Catholic Care Project and will serve the needs of our parish Kupuna, Ohana and those who come to our door who are struggling with food insecurity. Aloha all! We want to thank those that came to last week's YM gathering! lt was great learning about your Patron Saints! Highlights of our gathering AcL 27, 2017: We reviewed "Hallowtide" - All Hallows Eve (Halloween), All Saints day, and All Souls day. The Church offers us a way of thinking about those who have died. On All Saints Day and All Souls Day, we remember that we are members of the People of God. United with God, we are also united with all Christians who have come before us in the Communion of Saints. We watched a brief video about All Saints Day and we were reminded that we do not worship the Saints, we worship God and we (give them venerate respect/honoQ as they pray for us in heaven (just like how we pray for each other on

the Saints

earth).

Everyone shared some interesting facts on their Patron Saints chosen for Confirmation. We played Saints BINGO - we were given pieces of information from saints cards and had to figure out which Saint it was. The gift bags we packed for the children at Kapiolani Hospital will be delivered by our teachers. Mahalo for your gifts and support. We continue to pray for you and your families.

the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone" (Matthew 24:36). In spite of Christ's admonition that the day of his Second Coming is known but to God, there have been countless false prophets who have confidently but incorrectly predicted a date for the end of the world. Most of these foolish forecasters based their claims on their misinterpretation of the Book of Revelation. Throughout history, many have attempted to use the Book of Revelation as a timetable. They misinterpreted symbols and numtrers as a forecast of what would happen in their own centurY. Over and over again, such people have used Revelatiotl to predict the end of the world. The worid might end tomorrow, in five biiiion years, or somewhere in between. Jesus tells us we can't know for sure. We are sure, however, that this world will pass away.
