confident that I had arrived and would experience everything the amusement park had to offer.

After being baptized (Luke 3:2'l -22), Jesus showed the first sign of his glory by turning the water into wine at the Wedding Feast at Cana (John 2, 1-11). Although it was a small sign, it was the start of the many miracles He would perform (including the feeding of five thousand, curing the sick, walking on water, and the raising of Lazarus from the dead) culminating in what would be the greatest marquee sign of being God through His passion, death, and resurrection to New Life. Through His death and resurrection He gave all of us the promise of eternal life, like buying the ticket and entering the gate at Disneyland, you are 1000/" sure you have begun your journey to the final destination, Heaven.

Jesus started slowly with the sign of turning

water to wine, but the signs amplify over the following years of his ministry and the number of believers grew. Today we experience our own signs of Jesus' presence th rough prayer and experiences in everyday life. We know He is present at the Mass during the Liturgy of the Word and in the Eucharist. We then become the presence of Jesus for the world, sharing our time, talent and treasures, so others may follow Him So although we may not have been able to witness the turning of the water into wine two thousand years agor we are blessed to know we

have a ticket in hand

to get us on the road to

Heaven!

Second Sunday In Ordinary Time The Many-Threaded Tapestry That is Marriage Sts. Peter and Paul Church

January 20, 2019

GOOD NEWS! The weaver works from the back side of a tapestry while looking into a mirror in front to see the reflection of his work. Next to the mirror sits a painting of what he is weaving. The back of the tapestry is full of knots and dull colors. In front it is beautiful and ornate. The way a tapestry is made is a great allegory for marriage. Spouses look at the ideal they are trying to reproduce: God’s love for humanity, Jesus’ love for his Church. It is a sacrificial, lay-down-your life kind of love. While viewing the ideal, the spouses have their hands on the threads, weaving the right color at the right time to reproduce that ideal.

Reading I - Isaiah 62:1-5

Those strings can represent the different virtues or acts of love required by the specific situation of the relationship. Sometimes a spouse has to stop, tie off a string, pull it out, and start over. From the back, it can look chaotic, but slowly the ideal takes shape and the beauty of the tapestry of marriage comes into view.

Reading II - 1 Corinthians 12:4-11

God will marry us, says the prophet. He will take us as his own, giving us the gifts of his Spirit to enrich us. Together, we will bear fruit of new life in ourselves and others. Trying to weave that loving union with God and others may be chaotic and knotty; thus, the need to repent and try again. But with his grace, the final product, which comes into full view only at the end, will be unique and beautiful. — Fr. Mark Haydu, LC

For Reflection: Is God’s love the ideal I am trying to emulate in my relationships, especially marriage? God is the main protagonist in my relationships. Do I try to listen to his inspirations? © 2019 Liguori Publications, Liguori, MO 63057-9999. Printed in U.S.A. The prophet Isaiah used the analogy of marriage to describe Israel’s relation to God. God has espoused God’s self to Israel. God delights in Israel like a groom delights in his bride. But this analogy cuts both ways. Our relation to God is like the marriage bond and the marriage bond is like our relation to God. Both are anchored in mutual love.

The apostle Paul had to deal with the problem of competition in the church at Corinth. Members were quarreling over which spiritual offices were the highest. Paul insisted that all gifts were equally important. God equips each of us with a gift for the common good. None is unimportant. All are necessary. Gospel Reading - John 2:1-11 We should not overlook the fact that Jesus performed his first miracle in the Gospel of John at a wedding feast. By this act, Jesus sanctified the ordinary things of life. The ordinary times and places of daily life are opportunities for encountering God as surely as the special time and places of worship.

NEXT WEEK’S READINGS Third Sunday in Ordinary Time 1st Reading– Nehemiah 8:2-4a, 5-6, 8-10 2nd Reading – 1 Corinthians 12:12-30 Gospel - Luke 1:1-4, 4:14-21

The 2019 campaign highlights the faith of Latin America and the many opportunities we have to share faith with them. We also recognize the tremendous benefit of having our Latin American brothers and sisters in the Church and the revitalization their fervor brings to the faith. In addition to offering our help and support to the Catholics of Latin America, we have much to learn from them. 2) The Black and Indian Mission Office is comprised of three distinct but inter-related organizations, each with its own purpose and history, but all seeking to fulfill the one Mission to the Missions, founded by the Catholic bishops of the United States. This collection supports Native American Dioceses struggling to evangelize those who were first to come to America. When I was young, I had an abortion and left the Church. I came back five years ago. Then, on the thirtieth anniversary of my abortion, my father died suddenly. Now everyone who loved my dad is being punished for my sin. Why wasn't my confession enough?

St. Agrcs, Virgin and Martyr

Heb 5:1-10

Mk 2:18-22

Tuesday JANUARY 22 Day of Prayer for the Legal Protectiott of Unbom Children Heb 6:10-20

in is an unfortunate reality in our human lives. However, God's infinite mercy and love are also a reality. When we seek God's forgiveness, we are truly forgiven for and absolved of our sins. God neither holds our past transgressions against us nor seeks ways to punish us, and your father's death on the anniversary of your abortion truly was a coincidence. Please believe me when I tell you that your confession was more than enough. Remember, though, our work does not end there. Once God florgives us, we must trust in his mercy and then begin the sometimes more difficult task of forgiving ourselves. Project Rachel-an excellent ministry that provides pastoral care, reconciliation, and counseling to women and men who have experienced the pain and trauma of abortion-can help you on your healing journey. To contact Project Rachel, call 888-45 6-4673 or visit HopeAfterAbortion.com. Life is God's gift to us, and this Tuesday, |anuary 22, is the Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children. Let's all make a point of praying for the unborn children in our world.
