Notice the scenarios used here: Two men out in the field and two women grinding at the mill. These are images of the daily workload; therefore, our Lord seems to be suggesting that our daily work and concerns are necessary. What separates one man from the other and one woman from the other is that one of the men and one of the women are consumed with the concerns of this world and indifferent to the concerns of salvation. Whereby the other man and woman are fulfilling their daily duties because they are a necessity of life, but see their duties as a partial fulfillment of what God has called them to do, thus living their life for God. This collection provides funding for groups that make lasting change and uplift the poor in the United States. What identifies a steward? Safeguarding material and human resources and using them responsibly are one answer; so is generous giving of time, talent, and treasure. But being a Christian steward means more. As Christian stewards, we receive God's gifts gratefully, cultivate them responsibly, share them lovingly in justice with others, and return them with increase to the Lord. The

Thanksgiving collection of

nonperishable foods last week helped the Kupuna of our parish and also families who may be facing hardships. With your generous gift we were able to collect 875 pounds of food, which enabled us to pack 67 bags of groceries for our Kupuna and the vulnerable. We thank all parishioners and the 15 volunteers who helped sort and bag the food.

We appreciate those volunteers who deliver the bags of food to those who are unable to pick them up at church. lf you would like to contribute your time to this Catholic Care Project, please call the office at 941-0675.

What ls Advent? Christmas is here! Or is it'l Before the end of October one sees the signs of Christmas everywhere. But by

the time December 25 arrives, most people

are

"Christmased" out - too many parties, rich foods and stretched budgets. We Catholics don't need to drarv our drapes and trviddle our thumbs while the rest of society is celebrating Christmas in advance. Instead, we can celebrate two seasons: Advent and Christmas. The Church begins a new Liturgical Year on the First Sunday of Advent. During the subsequent fbur lveeks, she prepares with mounting expectation tbr the coming of Christ in a spirit of waiting, conversion and hope. (Source: catholicculture.org)

Many ministries keep our parish alive and growing. Many are behind the scenes and involve a very few who work to transform our worship space each week, especially at the beginning of a new Liturgical season.

Our Sacristans, Grace Porras, Gordon Lau and their many helpers are here to help Father Danny and Father Khanh and our visiting priests to focus on the prayers, the homily and not have to worry about the details of celebrating the Holy Eucharist. Their calm guiet demeanor allows our Liturgy to flow without words. Requirements of a good sacristan is to be able to read people's minds and to be able to act quickly and know in advance what is needed for special celebrations. They are responsible to be sure the books are ready, that there is enough wine, enough hosts, the altar linens, the vestments and the cloths used to cover the tables are washed and ironed. They take care that there are flowers to adorn the altar and that the Solemnities and Feast days express the sacredness and give glory to God. Many thanks to Grace and her team who work tirelessly each week so that we are able to celebrate Mass together. Well done. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We begin our new Liturgical Year with brand new Missalettes in the pews. MAHALO to the many volunteers who helped to change the missals on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Please take care of our sacred books which we share that will enable all of us to worship and hear the Living Word of God in this New Season as we look for the coming of the Messiah!

Devotions of the Catholic Church are ways of showing our love to the Holy Trinity, the Blessed Virgin Mary, the angels and the saints. These can be done privately or as communal, oral prayer^ The Church has always encouraged private, personal prayer such as meditation, in which the mind, in God's presence, thinks about God and divine things.

The times listed above indicate when

the communal, oral devotions should begin in order to allow time aftenvards for meditation and personal reflection, including 15. minutes of sinnc lV!as_s_ hegins.

No group or communal prayers will be allowed outside of the schedule in order to respect the time for personal private prayer.

Dean?adna, I want my son to be confirmed this year, but he won't go to conflrmation classes or select a sponsor. What should I do? \ f, /hen your son was baptized, you promised to raise him in the faith.

Y Y Coing to Nlass ancl making faith part of your home life has been part of his upbringing, but forcing him to be confirmed can result in resentment and drive him further from you and his Catholic faith. Try these three things: First, have a heartfelt and personal discussion (or several) with him, sharing what your Catholic faith means to you. Second, speak with the confirmation teacher or DRE. He or she has dealt with this before and can work with you both to understand his refusal. Third, engage him in discovering God at work in his life through the people and movements he's attracted to. Young people are often idealistic and can become disenchanted with the Church and other authority flgures. The sooner they know you're willing to let them examine and understand what being Catholic means, the less inclined they will be to reiect the Church. What he needs is the steady, meaningful message that he is loved and important to you, God, and the Church. Trust that God's will comes to fruition. Confirmation should occur when a person manifests a true desire and has undergone necessary preparation. These suggestions aren't easy but reflect the faith you want to pass on. Fr
