GOOD NEWS! It is good that we are here—joined in community for Sunday worship, here, in this moment of prayer.

Our lives are so hectic and fast-paced that it’s often hard to enjoy just being in the present moment with God. It’s not just the pressure of work, but the added responsibilities of home. You know the routine…getting the kids to school; getting to work on time; leaving from work; running a few errands; preparing dinner; going back out to pick up the kids from practice; then back home for dinner, dishes, laundry, homework; and then finally to bed on time so you can get up early and start again.

But just stop! Take the time to enjoy the grace of the Eucharist, to rejoice in one another and savor Christ who reveals his love to you. Give yourself this gift. Each moment has power, poetry, and grace.

Each instant is a gift from God, and each moment is an opportunity to encounter Jesus Christ. It’s an occasion to return within ourselves and turn back to our Father who is eagerly waiting for us.

It’s good to be here—not somewhere else, not in another time when we were happier, healthier, or life was easier and simpler. Right here, right now, right where God has you is where he is revealing his love. It may not be easy, but this is where God is, and it’s good to reflect on the graces each moment presents.

For Reflection Can I let go of the past and set aside worries of the future to find God in the only place he can be found—in the present moment? Reading I - Joshua 5:9a, 10—12

The safe arrival in the land meant that the disgrace associated with Israel’s slavery in Egypt had been undone. This place would be a perpetual reminder of the liberating character of our God. Here the deliverance from slavery was real.

Reading II - 2 Corinthians 5:17—21 Christ’s death and resurrection represent God’s victory over all the powers that stand between humanity and God. Being reconciled to God indicates that God is at work to sanctify the reconciled into vessels of God’s righteousness.

Reading III - Luke 15:1—3, 11—32 God’s mercy and reconciliation awaits the Prodigal Son and is available to each one of us if we are faithful to God’s welcoming embrace.

We received this in our parish email: Sex-trafficking isn't something that happens to other people's children. Even youth in our churches have become ensnared in its grip. No one is immune. This concerns Catholic families.

• Youth from every public middle school and high school on Oahu and even those from private schools are being affected by sex-trafficking?

• Youth from loving, intact families are being coerced and trapped in sex-trafficking?

• Churches are targeted by sex-traffickers because youth in churches tend to be more naive and trusting?

• Recruiters are often fellow classmates who gain the trust of girls before trapping them with fear and control?

• Research shows Hawaii has the highest number of purchasers of sex online per capita in the entire United States? There are 18,000 men on Oahu alone who are buying a sexual encounter with a person. This translates into one in 11 men on Oahu who is buying sex online. There is a huge demand for sex trafficked youth!

Sex trafficking has become a huge problem in Hawaii and it's time to fight back. Explicit Movement is holding a conference for the Christian community to increase awareness about sex-trafficking to inform adults and equip you to protect our youth.

Waisa didn’t spend a single day in school. When she was young, no one thought girls should receive an education. Plus, there was work to do. She helped her twelve siblings at her family’s farm. She was responsible for helping her mom sell meat to their neighbors.

Now, things have changed in Sinkunia, a town in the north of Sierra Leone. Waisa knows the importance of education—especially for girls. “If there’s education, Sierra Leone will develop,” she says. “Our students will make sure of it.”

That’s why Waisa insists that her 12-year-old granddaughter, Kumba, attends the nearby CRS-sponsored school, so she can learn how to make a difference in her community and her country. And, through the nutritious lunch that CRS gives to each student every day, Kumba and her classmates can focus on their studies and not on their hunger.

Kumba’s favorite subject is math because she likes the challenge. And when she completes her education, she wants to be a nurse. A nurse, Kumba says, helps cure the sick, and if there were more nurses in Sinkunia, those who get sick wouldn’t have to leave the town to get healthcare.

Waisa is proud of her granddaughter and continues to work hard to support her. With no shade from the hot sun, Waisa cares for the family’s garden, watering eggplants, tomatoes, onions and more to be harvested and sold through the streets of Sinkunia. Kumba helps, too, visiting the garden every day after school.

“I’m happy if I can support my daughters and granddaughters, even through university,” Waisa says. With a smile, she adds, “I know that educated girls help their parents and their communities.”

Youth Ministry Recap Friday, March 22, 2019 "Faithfulness and Joy" Last week we used the fun example of Spider-Man to talk about faithfulness and joy, two more fruits of the Holy Spirit. We discussed the importance of remaining faithful to Christ and our call to live as children of God. The youth learned that we can be faithful to God in our belief, words, and actions. They also learned about how following Christ and trusting in Him will lead us to great joy. With joy and faithfulness, God can help us to get through any tough situation in life.

What does it mean to be faithful in your life?

How will you find the most joy in life? What are some things you can do to share this joy with others?

Homework: Find joy in your daily life. Write about it in your prayer journal.

Challenge: Write a rap or song about your Faith in God.

If nothing else remember their faces as newcomers to the faith and pray for them as some day they may have recourse to pray for you.

There are 6 principles to formation of catechumen (who now are called elect). Notice 2, 4 and six involve you, the parishioner, who are an example to them by your actions of a faith lived out in our daily lives.

What can you do in your daily life to celebrate your calling as a child of God?

The ministry of every baptized person is discipleship. The reason we became initiation ministers is to make more disciples. The reason our parish exists is to make more disciples. The reason priests and deacons get ordained is to make more disciples. The reason we build Catholic schools is to make more disciples.

(This is also a model of our own continual formation as disciples of Jesus.)

Recanciliation is a healing s&cr&ment, meant to mend th* rift crested between ourselves anil *od a*d **rselves and others by r:ur sir:rs. God does the he*ling; we seek to op€n ourselves t* Gcd's power by asking forgiveness fr*m God and from others. it can be a paw*rful experi*nce to receiye the words of forgiveness, sp*ke* by the priest, as the very wordr *f iesus healing us and sending us forth to live a more loving life.

This sacrarnent helps us confront weakness and maiice in our life. We ali dc scrne shameful things" Sometimes we think, "If athers oniy knewwhat I think cr what I have dcne, they would not accept me!" When we ccme ts confession with sorrow for cur sins and a desire to *mend o*r lives, we are assured of God's complete pardon *nd accept*nce no matt€r what the sin. If God accepts and laves us, rurely we {*n accept and love ourselves.

We all have faults centering on gossip, selfishness, impatience, and ang*r.
