Please use your discretion about closing your parishes and offices if a hurricane/tropical storm watch is in effect. A watch means that storm conditions are possible within the next 48 hours. During this time, you may want to consider sending employees home based on the following:
U lf public or private schools are being closed employees may need to pick children up and need to provide child care
U Public transportation may become limited and employees may rely on these modes of transportation. Also, heavy traffic may pose challenges in some locations.
U Employees may need to make their own preparations to evacuate or shelter in place and to protect their property.
U Employees may need to check on or shelter elderly family members U lf you release an employee before the end of the work day, please plan on paying them for the entire scheduled day. lf you close your parish, employees may take paid leave if they have leave accumulated

lf there is a hurricane or tropical storm warning you will need to close your property. A warning means that effects from the hurricane or tropical storm is expected within 36 hours.

lf your parish is not a shelter designated by the State of Hawaii or American Red Cross, please do not open your doors to the public as a shelter. Only in extreme emergency situations should you accept individuals or families into your facilities. PROTECTION OF PROPERry

U Power down all electronics including computers, copy machines, scanners, etc. and unplug if possible. Power surges with potential power outages may occur and can damage
U Ensure that file cabinets and drawers with confidential information are locked and you are in possession of the key

Photograph and document structural damage to the property

Take action to prevent further damage (cover holes in roof, broken windows, etc)

Keep detailed records (preventative repair receipts and other expenses, etc)
