But make no mistake, the climb won't always start be"easy. Both Paul and Matthew tell us to stay awake, because it will throwing by before we know it. Paul urges us'to get some spiritual exercise off things that weigh us down-like excessive indulgence for food, drink, sexual intimacy, power, and wealth. Rather, says Paul, "Put on Christ'" fit The question for all of us this first sunday of Advent is, "How spiritually up am l?" lf we've regularly put on Christ and practiced our faith, the climb the Lord's mountain won't seem so arduous and long' And when we arrive, the Lord will greet us with joy'

We will honor our patron saint for his love of Christ and his position as Protomartyr of the Church. We have much to be thankful for the blood of the martyrs which is the seed of our faith.

Why are the candles in tfu Advent wreath dffirent eolors? And *ny a, some wreaths hauefiue candles ond sowi hauefour?
Most Advent wreaths have three purple candles and one rose to echo the liturgical colors of the Church's Advent celebrations.
Whether the wreath is being used at home or in a church, the lighting of the candles should follow the liturgical colors of the Sundays of Advent. The vestments at Mass are purple during the first two weeks of Advent, and we light a purple candle on the first and second Sundays ofAdvent. On the third Sunday, the Church celebrates Caudett Sunday or Rejoice Sund-ay, named after the first word of the day's traditional entrance verse (Philippians 4:4-5). The priest wears rose vestments at Mass as a sign of our brightening hope and joy, and on the Advent wreath we light the rose candle to reflect the action in the liturgyThe fourth Sunday of Advent sees the lighting of the last

They light this at Christmas, again echoing the Church's liturgical color for the season and rejoicing in Christ our Lord, whose birth brings light and life to our world.
