You may be familiar with the TV show Hoarders, which features people living in horrid conditions surrounded by stuff they've been unable to throw away for years. Many of us find these extreme reality shows enteftaining because it feels good to be unlike the people in them. We may not qualify to be on Hoarders, bui that doesn't mean we're really living

Jesus spoke: "One's life does not consist of Possessions." -our homes, Undoubtedly, we all could use a good Hoar-defi-l'ke cltan--out cjf requires work-cleaning, And stuff stuff. have a lot of We cars. and closets, maintenance, storage. The number of storage facilities in the United States has skyrocketed in recent years. Think about that: We need buildings to do nothing but house stuff we can no langer fit into our homes. ln itself, stuff isn't bad. The problem occurs when stuff turns into clutter-and clutter, when it turns into a verb, clutters! lt clutters oUr homes, oUr lives, and our heafts, and it certainly can clutter our relationship with God.

the truth

Think of the time we spend protecting our stuff with insurance, lockboxes, and alarms. Think of the energy we expend deciding who will get our stuff after we're gone-which child or relative should have which piece of jewelry or collectible. Think how often we complain about not having more sluff when we ought to be living every day in immense gratitude for all we already have. Such time and energy could be spent much more fruitfully in service to God and to each other. It's time for an honest look inside our homes, hearts, and spiritual lives: Do our Possessions possess us?

In Catholic faith Mary, like all other descendants of Adam, had to be redeemed through Christ. We honor her especially for two biblical reasons: (a) She is the mother of Jesus who is Lord and God. (b) According to Luke r:26-38 she is the first one to hear the good news of Jesus' identity and to say, "Be it done to me according to your word"-thus becoming the first disciple to meet Jesus' standard of hearing the word of God and doing it (see Luke B:zr). We believe that God gave her special privileges, but these are related to the graces of discipleship given through Christ and in no way divinize her. All believers in Christ are delivered by his grace from the sin of Adam: All believers in Christ will be raised bodily from the dead. Catholics believe that Mary, the first one to profess belief in Christ as revealed by an angel, was through Christ's grace the first to be totally freed from Adam's sin (conceived without sin) and the first to be raised bodily (assumed into heaven). While we acknowledge that these doctrines of the lmmaculate Conception and Assumption of Mary are not found in the New Testament, we hold them as consonant with the picture in Luke of Mary as the first one "fiat" and to believe, and with the picture in John where she is especially loved and honored as Jesus hangs on the cross. was once the pastor in a parish that had no church building-we held Mass in a school gy*.We considered putting up a temporary metal-frame building, but instead we decided to raise money to build a proper church building-a place of beauty where the sacraments could be celebrated with dignity-that would be there for our children and our children's children.
