The traditional virtual reality application with mesh objects often use ocullusion culling technique to optimise its performance. However, ocullusion culling is not applicable while dealing with point cloud. This project investigates the potential methods to optimise point cloud virtual reality application for Oculus Quest (without cable / untethered).

_P3.1

This research project aims to recreate Cherbourg girls’ dormitory using historical photograph and archival documents. The two-storey timber building was constructed in 1928 and originally situated at the Administrative domain of the Cherbourg Aboriginal settlement in Southeast Queensland. However, it was burnt down in 1997. The girls’ dormitory is significant to the Aboriginal community because the dormitory system was used in the discrimination of the Indigenous people and employed as a method to destroy Aboriginal culture through assimilation. Similar system was used across missions in Australia. However, there are only very few of the dormitory buildings that represent these policies remain in Australia. It is apparent that the dormitory had undergone significant changes over the years when it was in use. Given this context, the project later on utilises these resources to create a continuous biography of the girls’ dormitory and explore how the dormitory changed over time.

FACADE RETROFITTING IMPROVE ENERGY EFFICIENCY

A research by design exploring the effects of solar heat gain on existing buildings and adopting to mitigate heat and improve energy efficiency. A modular tensile fabric facade is designed to be retrofitted onto the existing building, reducing heat impact and enhancing existing cross ventilation.

_P6.12

The panels uses PTFE tensile fabric. It is coated in Teflon, and has good UV absorbing and reflecting properties. It provides safe shading to users while also having comfortable light levels. Glare is significantly reduced with the fabric. It can be attached to the frame off site before being installed into the motor system.

04

Most of the proposed components can be assembled off-site. The existing facade was built from the bottom up. The new facade can be installed by working our way down from top floor. Only half of each floor needs to be evacuated when installing the facade, saving the cost to accommodate a huge number of people. To save time on moving equipment, the Northern facade will be prioritized first before installing the Southern facade.

In a world where representation is largely characterised by digital media, the presence of paper being used for communication has seen a massive decline. The museum is intended to provide an exhibition space for a collection of significant fibre-based artifacts. The museum also priorities its interior experience, offering the visitors an opportunity to discover these artifacts in an unique way.
