AGRICULTURAL BUSINESS

WE MEAN BUSINESS

AGRIBUSINESS FINANCE FOOD INDUSTRY MANAGEMENT INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS RURAL DEVELOPMENT Around here, ag is big business. And LSU’s Department of Agricultural Economics & Agribusiness prepares you to excel in that realm. Our Bachelor of Science in agricultural business provides students with a comprehensive business background combined with a working knowledge of the

American food system and the economics of agricultural production, marketing, transportation, and trade. This isn’t a typical business degree. Our students focus on management, marketing, finance, and economics and dive into the the economics and sociology at the core of agriculture, natural resources, and rural communities.

CONCENTRATIONS Agribusiness Finance: Learn how food and other agricultural products move from the farm to the consumer, including all the processing, transportation, and marketing that happen between the field and the table. Food Industry Management: Figure out what kinds of food people want. And then get it to them. Students learn about developing and marketing food products and gain skills that can be applied to multiple areas of the agriculture business.

International Business: Understand agriculture’s role in our worldwide economy. Learn to identify international markets for food products and address challenges in a global marketplace, including the government regulations and import and export laws. Rural Development: Help rural areas thrive. Understand how to measure the economic health and vitality of communities and learn to assist private businesses, nonprofits, and governments in finding ways to improve lives.

STUDENT PROFILE

“I enjoy the experiences of working and living with people from all over the world.” Cameron Roig

Cameron Roig

Cameron Roig likes a good challenge. The junior in agribusiness completed a summer internship with Smithfield Foods in Virginia before departing for a year abroad. Roig studied at Mendel University in Brno, Czech Republic. Mendel is an agricultural college named after Gregor Mendel, a botanist called “the father of genetics.” Roig’s classes were primarily in the business department, and he said the teaching style in the Czech Republic is different, with varied class and lecture structures. Going abroad enriched his life, he said. “Overall, my time spent in the Czech Republic has been quite positive,” Roig said. “I feel welcomed by staff, have ample opportunities to explore the city as well as neighboring countries, and I enjoy the experiences of working and living with people from all over the world.” Roig is also a member of the Agribusiness Club.
