STUDENT PROFILE Her recipe is simple: a Canadian heritage, a mix of passion, and a healthy dose of environmental awareness. On top of her school load, Shanara Dyson, a junior studying environmental management systems, holds leadership roles in three organizations on campus. Dyson is the fundraising chair for Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences; the fundraising chair and treasurer for the music fraternity Sigma Alpha Iota; and the secretary for the speech and debate team. Each organization has helped her develop a skill set that has prepared her for different parts of her life, she said. Born in Canada and now a Texas Tiger, Dyson enrolled in the college specifically for her degree program. “LSU is one of the few schools that

have environmental science and business as one major,” she said. “The College of Agriculture works really hard to make sure students are taken care of.”

STUDENT EMPLOYMENT Many of our world-class faculty members and staff have positions for undergraduate students who may assist with laboratory, field, or office work related to research projects in environmental, soil, or plant science.
