We are excited about what Fall 2017 has to offer: 1. As mentioned in previous newsletters, we are actively recruiting for our sport management online and oncampus programs. We are happy to announce that we collectively produced nearly 30 graduates from both programs. If you know others interested in a master’s degree from LSU and in Sport Management do not hesitate to encourage them to contact Dr. Mike Martinez, Director of Online Programs for Kinesiology at jmmartinez@lsu.edu or Dr. Chad Seifried at cseifried@lsu.edu for the oncampus opportunity. 2. Student Spotlight: From Pueblo, Colorado, Sara received her Bachelors of Science degree in Athletic Training from Colorado State University – Pueblo in 2014. Upon graduation, she passed the Board of Certification exam, became certified, and registered as an athletic trainer in Colorado. Sara spent the next two years as the Head Athletic Trainer for Pueblo Central High School, assuming responsibility for over 500 student-athletes. Attending LSU has been a great opportunity to learn more about the sport industry. Sara is interested in continuing her athletic training career at a university or clinical fellowship under a prominent orthopedic group that speSara Padilla cializes in sports medicine.

Student Spotlight: Nick Wible

Nick Wible

Nicolas Wible is a second year student in Sport Management at LSU. He is originally from Chalmette, Louisiana, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from LSU with a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Administration. During his final year of undergrad, Nicolas worked as intern with LSU Athletics in the Marketing & Promotions department and has turned that into a Graduate Assistant position. He currently works on developing and implementing marketing plans for LSU Soccer and Men’s Basketball and will work with LSU Softball and Track & Field in the spring. After graduating, Nicolas hopes to work in the marketing department for a professional organization, specifically an NBA team.

Student Spotlight: Shelby Leach Originally from Jonesboro, LA, Shelby completed a bachelor’s degree in human performance, recreation, and community studies with Southern Arkansas University after earning an associate’s degree in general studies from Bossier Parrish Community College. While at SAU, she earned two letters as a member of the softball team. Following graduation, she worked as Athletic Coordinator and assistant softball coach at Bossier Parish Community College. In 2017, Shelby will earn her Master of Science degree in KinesiologySport Management from LSU. Shelby is a physical education teacher and the head softball coach at Loyola College Preparatory in Shelby Leach Shreveport, LA.

Alumni Spotlight: Daniel Nunes

Chris Barnhill recognized as an Outstanding Reviewer for the Organizational Behavior Division at the 2017 Academy of Management Conference. Chad Seifried promoted to Full Professor.

Daniel Nunes

Daniel Nunes (Class of 2010) recently accepted a new position with Southern Methodist University as Assistant Athletics Director of Marketing and Creative Services. A native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Baton Rouge, Nunes accepted a Graduate Assistantship with LSU Athletics in Marketing and Promotions where he was responsible for marketing LSU Soccer and Gymnastics. Following his graduation, Nunes was hired by LSU as the Coordinator for Marketing where he oversaw marketing for LSU Volleyball and women’s Basketball. In 2012, Nunes was promoted to Director of Marketing and responsible for LSU Football, men’s Basketball, and Gymnastics. Congrats Daniel and Good luck!

LSU Sport Management Doctoral Program at SEC² Retreat

The SEC2: 1. Offers broad and balanced initiatives to further the academic position of sport management programs, faculty members, and students; 2. Generate new knowledge through a broad array of scholarly research and creative endeavors; 3. Pioneer new areas of sport management research and education; 4. Provide leadership opportunities for members; 5. Develop assessment materials that can help insure the highest levels of sport management academic programs and faculty.
