GREETINGS Salutations! I hope you’re all having a fantastic summer, recouping and gearing up for the school year! As the new school year is approaching, I hope to work with all of the officers on their goals for their club. I’m really excited for this coming school year; I’m confident that all of the clubs in Division 32 have the potential to really grow and improve this year! In this newsletter, you’ll find information about the Youth Opportunities Fund, which is an amazing resource that’s extremely underused. Also, there’s information about the upcoming Key Leader in Corbett, Oregon. Learn more about how you can make a difference through service-leadership! Seattle Rally is coming up and I really look forward to seeing all of you there! As of August 7th, over 80 attendees from Divsion 32 have registered! That’s really awesome! You’re all going to have a blast! See you there! In Love and Service,

Alan Yeh

Lieutenant Governor of Division 32

A Word from Your International Trustee Hey everyone! My name is Roshni Chandwani, and I will be your International Trustee for the 2013 to 2014 service year. I joined Key Club my freshman year, and it was the best decision I’ve ever made! I’m currently a rising senior at Cypress Falls High School in Houston, Texas, and I’m also involved in Debate, Red Cross, and Student Council. In my free time, I love getting boba tea with my friends, listening to music, or watching TV shows (like Suits). This year, I want to be more accessible to club members and officers. As a Club President, I didn’t want to contact my trustee at the time because I thought she would be too busy to answer any of my questions, but that definitely is not the case. If any of you have questions or just want to say hi, feel free to shoot me an e-mail at roshni.chandwani.kc@gmail.com! Also, please join the Sister Districts Facebook Group: (http://tinyurl.com/kkttu53) to stay updated on everything Key Club related!

district project:

What is the ELIMINATE Project? The Eliminate Project is a joint project with Kiwanis and UNICEF to internationally ter-minate MNT. What is MNT? In 30 countries around the world, maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) can quickly turn the joy of childbirth into tragedy. MNT kills one baby every nine minutes. Its effects are excruciating– tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. There is little hope of survival. And tetanus kills mothers too. Who suffers from MNT? MNT is caused when tetanus spores, found in soil everywhere, come into contact with open cuts during childbirth. The disease strikes the poorest of the poor, the geographically hard to reach and those without health care.

YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES FUND WHAT IS THE YOF? The Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) is an endowed fund for Key Club International held within the Kiwanis International Foundation. This fund uses earned interest to help Key Clubs and Key Club members serve the world by providing grants for service opportunities. The fund also provides academic scholarships for higher education. The Youth Opportunities Fund is established through a portion of your Key Club International dues and through the purchase of G. Harold Martin Fellowships.

Assist the Tijuana Project: three orphanages in Baja, Mexico. The club would take basic necessities such as shampoo, undergarments, soap, and other necessities for the orphans in three orphanages. They would also purchase toys and school supplies for the orphans and put them inside of backpacks and deliver them to the approximately 150 children in the three orphanages.

YOF grants can help you take action. Look around and identify the things that need to get done in your school, community or world. Key Clubs have applied for grant funds to support a variety of service projects

HOW TO APPLY YOF grants are given only to Key Clubs and/or club members. There is only one funding cycle for the Youth Opportunities Fund. The application must be received by October 15 each year. Clubs may request funding assistance from $100 to $2,000. The committee typically funds those clubs who are asking for a portion of the total cost of the project, and clubs who are working with other organizations to fund and complete the project. Notification of the Key Club International Board’s decision will be mailed no later than January 15. Applications must be submitted to: Kiwanis International 3636 Woodview Trace Indianapolis, IN USA, 46268 OR fax your application to 1-317-879-0204.

The YOF Grant application is included in the Downloads section of the Key Club Web site under Service. The guidelines for filing the application are in the Guidebook under Board Policies. Please review them before completing the application.

SEATTLE RALLY 2013: SERVIC

Division 32 is o It is with great pleasure that I invite you to Seattle Rally, 2013 on Monday, August 12th 2013! Division 32 is wholeheartedly honored to be able to host such a marvelous event. I hope you will join us in Renton and see what we have in store! The purpose of Seattle Rally is to first and foremost, train incoming officers and acquaint them with their responsibilities. Second, we want to encourage spirit and excitement for the great opportunities that Key Club has to offer. Lastly, we want to encourage and promote the great opportunities not only at the club level, but at the District and International level as well. Since Club officers play an essential role in leadership and service, we have selected former officers and current district board members to lead informative and entertaining workshops on the duties of the officer roles. Whether your members are a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, or Bulletin Editor, they will find an opportunity here to fulfill their goals. They will walk out more informed and ready for the upcoming school year. The possibilities are endless after they hear from our forum leaders of the greater Seattle area to create stronger and more involved leaders. Seattle Rally is an energetic bonding time for everyone in attendance, somewhat like a miniature District Convention. Get your entire division and club ready, and go all out on spirit gear! Your group might just be the most spirited of them all and could win the illustrious Seattle Rally spirit stick! Registration will be online and medical forms must be turned at the door. The early-bird registration fee is $5, regular registration is $6, and at the door is $7 for any registration after the regular registration deadline (August 11th) See you then!

CLUB: Kentlake High School BIRTHDAY: March 14th, 1996 GRADUATING YEAR: 2014 FAVORITE COLOR: Green FAVORITE BOOK: A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin FAVORITE SONG: “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers FAVORITE FOOD: Sushi FAVORITE QUOTE: “When I was young, I used to admire intelligent people; as I grow older, I admire kind people.”- Abraham Joshua Heschel GUILTY PLEASURES: Marathoning in various mind numbing television shows POSITIONS HELD: KLHS Secretary 2013-2013 KLHS President 2013-Present

If you could spend the day with anyone (living or dead), who would it be and why? If I could spend a day with anyone it would be Joss Whedon because I admire his creativity, comedy, and his kindness. I would ask him to teach me everything he knows about writing. What is your spirit animal and why? My spirit animal is a turtle because I, too, am slow and enjoy laying in the sun all day and hide in my shell when confronted. Why do you love Key Club? I love Key Club because it gives people the ability to not only help their community, but to also meet people who like to spend their time doing the same thing. Everyone is there for the same reason so you develop a sense of comfort in the club.

12

Why Hailey? In the past few months, Hailey has really grown as the president of Kentlake Key Club. She has excelled in keeping close contact with me about her club’s needs as well as things within the division. Her diligence and promptness in her work are great assets to her as a leader and to her club. As president, she’s really improved communication between her club and the division and I hope this great work ethic continues.
