GREETINGS Hola Division 32! How was Trick-Or-Treat for UNICEF? Did you make a lot of moolah for The Eliminate Project? Don’t stop! You can continue to fundraise as long as you submit UNICEF funds before December 31st, 2013. Keep up the great work! Your dedication and commitment is inspiring. November’s here and that means food drives, holiday preparations, and turkey day! Did you know that there are families within your own communities that go without Thanksgiving dinners every year? With your help, we can change that! Check out page 7 for more information on the division-wide service project, Turkey Baskets. Treasurers, have you gotten your dues in yet? If you haven’t, be sure to submit dues BEFORE December 1st. Our division is depending on you for good seating at District Convention! If you need help, just ask me! Are the schooltime doldrums getting you down? Do you need an extra push? There’s great, fun events coming up that’ll be sure to get your hype up! Dance to ELIMINATE hosted by Division 34 is on November 23rd; grab some friends and carpool down to Tacoma to have a good time all for a good cause. Also, the Let It Eliminate Benefit Showcase is on December 14th right here in Division 32 in Renton. Performing acts include: the JROD Twins, Kim Vallido, Koncrete Movement, and more! For more information check out pages 8 through 10 of the newsletter. Save the date! The Lieutenant Governor Election Rally will be on January 25th, 2014. If you’re interested in running, be sure you contact me so that we can go over what the job actually entails. More information regarding candidacy will be released soon.

In Love and Service,

Alan Yeh

Lieutenant Governor of Division 32

district project:

What is the ELIMINATE Project? The Eliminate Project is a joint project with Kiwanis and UNICEF to internationally ter-minate MNT. What is MNT? In 30 countries around the world, maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) can quickly turn the joy of childbirth into tragedy. MNT kills one baby every nine minutes. Its effects are excruciating– tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. There is little hope of survival. And tetanus kills mothers too. Who suffers from MNT? MNT is caused when tetanus spores, found in soil everywhere, come into contact with open cuts during childbirth. The disease strikes the poorest of the poor, the geographically hard to reach and those without health care.

TURKEY BASKETS

50 POINTS PER BASKET! The club with the most baskets will get 100 Dragon Cup Points! DUE: November 16th

LP A FAM E ! H ILY D IN NEE TURKEY BASKET CHECKLIST 2 boxes of stuffing 2 cans of cranberries 2 boxes of potato mix 2 packets of gravy mix 3 cans of fruit 3 cans of veggies 2 boxes of dessert mix $25 for turkey

As the holiday season is fast approaching and we are giving thanks for all of the things we have, we must consider that there are so many others within our very own communities that are much less fortunate than us. Students in our own schools and their families go without dinner on a daily basis. Imagine eating a moist, delicious turkey and hot apple pie on Thanksgiving; meanwhile, there are families in need, deprived of that same Thanksgiving dinner. Aware of this fact, every year, Hazen High School has a Thanksgiving “turkey basket” drive to give to impoverished families throughout the Greater Renton area. Last year alone, the school made about 207 turkey baskets. I’m requesting for each club to join in on this great service project. Set a goal and accomplish it! I will reward 50 Dragon Cup Points for each complete turkey basket. Think you can handle the challenge?
