GREETINGS Salut mes amis! It’s February and love is in the air! Key Club is all about love. As a fabulous group of young servant-leaders, we express love in all kinds of ways as we serve our homes, schools, and communities. When you think about it, February can really be a month about Key Club because who shows more love than Key Clubbers? With that said, I’d just like to take a moment to say how much I love you all. This past year has been an amazing experience and I’ve grown fond of everyone I’ve met. It does, consequently, sadden me to say that my term is ending and I’m passing on the torch to my wonderful innie, Morgan Lucena of Lindbergh High School. I’ve loved working with her this past year and I’m sure you will too next year. Since it is, in fact, a new year, let’s set some goals for ourselves. New year, new you, right? Let’s turn February into FebYOUary. What goals do you have for this month regarding self-improvement, service, academics, etc.? Turn this month into a month of action; after all, the clock is ticking and the end of the Key Club year is fast approaching so finish the year strong! Accomplish those service hours goals, blow your fundraising goals out of the water. You can do it, I believe in you. Anyway, back to business... This newsletter contains information regarding the Circle K initiative that coincides with Valentine’s week- “Show Your Love, Save a Life”- check it out on page 7 to see how you can contribute while making progress with The Eliminate Project. The DCON spirit pack information is also in this newsletter; contact an officer to order! Orders are due to me by February 21st, 2014. Congratulations to the Dragon of the Month, Jenny Feng, for her outstanding work with her club and with the division. Lastly, congratulations to the incoming Lieutenant Governor of Division 32 for the 2014-2015 term, Morgan Lucena! She has done a remarkable job this year as Lindbergh Key Club’s president and I just know that she will take our division to new heights next year. Best of luck, Morgan! Channel your inner dragon.

In Love and Service,

Alan Yeh

Lieutenant Governor of Division 32

district project:

What is the ELIMINATE Project? The Eliminate Project is a joint project with Kiwanis and UNICEF to internationally ter-minate MNT. What is MNT? In 30 countries around the world, maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) can quickly turn the joy of childbirth into tragedy. MNT kills one baby every nine minutes. Its effects are excruciating– tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. There is little hope of survival. And tetanus kills mothers too. Who suffers from MNT? MNT is caused when tetanus spores, found in soil everywhere, come into contact with open cuts during childbirth. The disease strikes the poorest of the poor, the geographically hard to reach and those without health care.

FAVORITE BOOK: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee FAVORITE SONG: “Slow it Down” by The Lumineers FAVORITE FOOD: Thai Food FAVORITE QUOTE: “Do one thing that scares you every day.” -Eleanor Roosevelt GUILTY PLEASURES: Driving 15 mph over the speed limit, thanking Based God for everything, and blasting Kanye West POSITIONS HELD: KRHS Sophomore Class Rep 2012-2013 KRHS Secretary 2013-Present

Why Jenny? Jenny has made outstanding contributions to both her club and division throughout her term as club secretary. With the rest of her board, she worked out an effective system for logging hours and attendance as well as ways to better engage club members. She really exudes the essence of a true Key Clubber, possessing an undeniable drive to help others, an evident passion for service, and consistent diligence in everything she does. Most recently, she ran for Lieutenant Governor, showcasing her wholehearted dedication to the division. Although she was not elected, I’m confident that she will be going places wherever her Key Club journey takes her.

12

If you could spend the day with anyone (living or dead), who would it be and why? The incoming Lieutenant Governor of Division 26 because he’s a cool cat wow I hope he’s not reading this okay bye What is your spirit animal and why? Raphael Enrico. There is no explanation needed for this. Why do you love Key Club? I love Key Club because it changed my life. I’ve become a happier, positive, and more outgoing person. Because I’ve met people that I now cannot imagine my life without. Because it has helped countless people realize that they aren’t worthless-- that they are caring people and have so much to offer to the world. Because through Key Club, we can encompass our passions while making a difference. (BASICALLY WITHOUT KEY CLUB OUR LIVES WOULD SUCK AND THE WORLD WOULD BE LESS UN-SUCKY).

Meet your new lt. G CLUB: Lindbergh High School BIRTHDAY: February 4th, 1997 GRADUATING YEAR: 2015 FAVORITE COLOR: Pink and Purple FAVORITE BOOK: I love all the books on my bookshelf FAVORITE SONG: Basically anything KPOP FAVORITE FOOD: KBBQ and Sushi! FAVORITE QUOTE: “If you light yourself on fire with passion, people from miles away will watch you burn.” – Key Clubber who told this to Hakikat Bains GUILTY PLEASURES: Touching cute guys, obsessive fangirling over cute guys and male KPOP idols, and reading fluffy romcoms on AFF POSITIONS HELD: LHS President 2013-Present

Hey Guys, Mama Dragon here! Thank you for electing me as your 2014-2015 Lieutenant Governor! I have some pretty big shoes to fill, but I’m definitely ready to rock them and continue Division 32’s legacy. I will do my best to get our division involved with the three preferred charities and bring the schools in our division closer. Let us take off from this mighty mountain and soar to even greater heights! Let us spread our fiery passions of service to those in need! Let us bond and become one great big dragon family! I can’t wait to get to know every single one of my Baby Dragons! If you didn’t already know, I fangirl (hardcore) over my favorite male Korean actors and KPOP biases. I love KBBQ and sushi. Please take me out to KBBQ or sushi. Please. I’m an avid reader of dystopian societies, mystery, and anything related to the supernatural. I often forget where I am and whom I’m with, so I tend to make weird noises as if I’m home alone. I apologize in advance if I make you uncomfortable. My laugh is very abnormal… and loud. LOL. I have a soft spot for Pitbulls. <3 And I have a feeling 2014 and 2015 will be fantabulous!^^

In Love and Service, Morgan Lucena
