Key Leader This year, the annual Kiwanis-sponsored New Jersey Key Leader was from December 5th-7th in Cross Roads Camp in Port Murray. Spending the weekend with about 75 dedicated Key Clubbers from around the state for the first time was honestly an amazing experience. Before attending, I’ve had various Key Clubbers that I knew that went previous years tell me that it was great, but I’ve never pushed myself to go until this year. Besides me, the people that went from our school were Ricky Thompson, Michael Raghandun and Jessica Ryan. On Friday, Ricky, Michael and I arrived at about 1:00. We went to our rooms, and Ricky gave us a tour of the place. While we settled in, I several other people that I have met previously started to show up. Ricky and the other Student Facilitators started their training at around 2:30. After that, in the main room, everybody that arrived and those that arrived later started an icebreaker where we had to ask others questions from a questionnaire. This continued until about 6 PM, when dinner was ready. We ate, and then we started the first session of the weekend, with our main facilitator, Kim White. This is when we got into our groups, or “neighborhoods”. Throughout the weekend, anytime we did an activity, we did it with our neighborhoods. We finished at about 10:30, and we had until 12:00 for free time, and then it was curfew. The first half of Saturday started with breakfast, and another session. After a break, we had another session and then lunch. The second half of the day had a similar layout as the day before, without the icebreaker. At night, everybody gathered around a fire for a community celebration. Normally, we would do this outside, but due to weather, it was inside. We had an ice cream social and then it was lights out for Saturday. The final day then arrived. Everybody was quick to write mail in each other's “mailboxes”, where we would write encouraging words for everybody. After breakfast, we had one last session. At around 11 AM, the weekend was done. It was truly a great weekend! I hope to see a lot of people next year!
