EDITOR'S MESSAGE Dear Colleagues, We celebrated Engineer’s Day on September 15th as a tribute to engineers across the world and especially the work done by our colleagues in LTTS who showcase excellence and create milestones almost as a habit. Indeed, for LTTS, the month gone by witnessed several engineering milestones. We launched an Electric Vehicle (EV) lab at our Bangalore delivery center in Manyata Tech Park campus, the first for any engineering services company that showcases the latest technologies pertaining to EV. This state-of-the-art EV Lab is dedicated to helping customers across the globe evaluate and verify the performance of electric vehicles. LTTS also won a breakthrough project from a tier-I automotive customer DRiV, to build a new- age hybrid unified business model and set up an engineering center in Bangalore. Also read about the team behind this precious deal-win and their behind-the-scenes adventures while pitching to the customer in Brussels! Our innovation is not restricted to one domain alone; even in the medical field, LTTS has continued to engineer the change, bringing healthcare closer than ever to the masses. Earlier in September, Agappe Diagnostics, one of India’s leading diagnostics reagents manufactures, launched their indigenously designed haematology analyzer which will go a long way in making blood testing affordable and accessible to millions. LTTS was the end-to-end engineering partner for the design and development of this unique product. This edition also features a very special conversation between two extraordinary gentlemen! In a tete-a-tete with our CMO Samir Bagga, Rajeev Gupta, who recently took over the reins as LTTS’ CFO shared his thoughts and insights on a variety of topics both professional and personal. And that’s not all. September 8th was celebrated as World Literacy Day and as the saying goes there is no better friend than a good book. So, we share with you some of the recommendations from, none other than, L&T’s CEO & MD and LTTS Vice Chairman S.N. Subhrahmanyan (SNS). You can find all these stories and much more in our latest TS TiMES edition. Enjoy reading and we welcome your feedback as always. TETE-A-TETE WITH RAJEEV GUPTA It’s not every day that two of our stalwart leaders engage in delightful conversations on work, life and share common interests. But that is exactly what happened when LTTS’ CMO Samir Bagga, caught up with our CFO Rajeev Gupta for a freewheeling chat that we are delighted to present to our readers. Rajeev, who took over the reins as LTTS’ CFO 2 months ago, talks about his exciting journey from a Chartered Accountant at PwC to exciting stints at Capgemini and most recently Birlasoft, and shares his life’s mantra and advice for LTTSites. For Rajeev taking charge right in the middle of the lockdown was a unique experience even for someone as experienced as him. But at the same time, the warmth and exuberance with which he was welcomed by colleagues across the organization was heartening and refreshing and one of the reasons why LTTS stands out as such a special place. Rajeev’s mantra for success is all about delighting stakeholders. “It could be anyone, your internal or external custome. The one thing that is critical, not just in business but even in life, is delighting your customer and ensuring you go above and beyond in terms of delivery performance. “Remember, every time you delight the customer, the customer is bound to come back with repeat business and that directly contributes to the success of the company and thus the financials, he says. In a first video interview with TS TiMES, Rajeev talks about Good vs Bad Finance, his immediate priorities as CFO and shares his motivational mantra with LTTSites. Did you know he is a movie buff and quite a talented singer? Watch till the end to hear him hum to one of Amitabh Bachchan’ s iconic songs!

ENGINEER’S DAY SPECIAL
VISH’S BIRTHDAY WISH COMES TRUE!
During February this year, several of our colleagues were working day and night to win a breakthrough project from a tier-1 automotive major DRiV. Three of them, Vishwanath M.S., Head of Validation & Verification for Transportation, Girish T.G., Sr. Delivery Manager, Automotive and Muralidhar G.N. our Group Manager handling the Legal department had to travel to Brussels to present a winning pitch to the customer. DRiV is one of the leading global suppliers of innovative automotive products and services and is a division of Tenneco Inc. Everything so far sounds like work as usual, doesn’t it? But this was not going to be any ordinary journey for our fellow LTTSites. Here’s the twist – COVID-19! In the past few months, the whole world and business travel has come to a standstill. Also, Brussels is recognized as a gastronomic destination and is famous for its non-vegetarian exquisite cuisine. Our colleagues had to consequently undertake the herculean task of travelling to Europe, maintaining travel norms and closing the deal while looking for restaurants offering vegetarian food in Brussels! The last activity proved to be the most challenging of all. But all’s well that ends well. For all the toiling and hardship, our talented trio were rewarded by eventually closing the deal successfully. (They also managed to find a couple of rare ‘vegetarian only’ eateries in Brussels). Coincidentally, the day Vishwanath, Murali and Girish closed the discussions with DRiV, it was Vishwanath’s birthday. The cherry on the metaphorical birthday cake for Vish was winning the deal and securing the important project from DRiV!
Congratulations to the Winning Team!
We couldn’t have asked for more from our dear colleagues, as they made the journey of a lifetime. Three Cheers for Vish, Girish and Murali!

ENGINEER’S DAY SPECIAL
LAUNCH OF MISPA COUNT X: INDIGENOUS & COST-EFFECTIVE BLOOD CELL COUNTER In partnership with L&T Technology Services, diagnostics reagents and equipment manufacturer Agappe Diagnostics earlier this month launched Mispa Count X, India’s first indigenously developed blood cell counter. Despite massive strides in the field of healthcare, basic healthcare facility is still a distant dream for many in India. This is due to the lack of necessary infrastructure, high cost of delivering medical benefits and low-income level of more than half the population. While early diagnosis of diseases is critical for implementation of preventive measures, labs in rural areas are not well-equipped to conduct such tests. To make affordable healthcare accessible to a larger population, Agappe decided to build a low-cost haematology device - with the aim to reduce the cost of blood analysis without compromising on accuracy. With a rich expertise in creating cutting-edge medical devices for developing markets, LTTS became Agappe’s R&D partner of choice to design and develop this innovative haematology test device. And the result is out for the world to see! As Neil Armstrong once said, “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” To watch the product launch, click on the video.

I am loving the ‘New Normal’! Rwik Mukhopadhyay, Tech Lead, Bangalore, India I have a balcony garden of which both me and wife are passionate about. We have spent numerous hours in finding ways and means of setting it up and maintaining it and despite our best efforts have been failing at it miserably for years now. But this year is different. We have seen surprises almost on all fronts in 2020 - and most of them have been negative. As far as our balcony garden is concerned, we did see a surprise there too, only difference being that it was positive! Despite the fact that we could not care as much about our garden this year as we would have liked, our plants, not only survived, they are blooming with flowers and new leaves. I don’t know the reason, it could be less pollution or maybe it was just too much of care that was making them weak… whatever it was, I am happy about the results.

Rwik Mukhopadhyay used the lockdown to sight and click pictures of avians spotted outside the window
Another welcome change that I saw this year was that, the balcony, which was usually always a shelter for pigeons and crows, is suddenly now being visited by Sunbirds. I haven’t seen any other bird in our balcony in last 5 years except crows and pigeons. I also never expected to take a picture of this guy from home. Even in the jungle, it is difficult for amateurs to get a clear shot of this majestic bird. The last few months were tough on all of us. Mass anxiety touched everyone's life. Every day, my morning started by checking the number of patients around our neighborhood. And the situation was so bad, anything below 50 was a happy number. But then, as they say, nights are darkest just before dawn. After the initial few days, I discovered that we were living a much healthier life. I haven’t had any outside food since March. The annual health check stats for my entire family were better as compared to the past years. And then, just when I thought I have seen everything in 2020, I spotted a few more beauties of nature in my neighborhood. I have focused my mind on looking at the positives of this “New Normal” and I am loving it! I hope and wish that you all, too, have find a few positive anchors in these uncertain times. Here’s hoping this year brings out many more pleasant surprises for all of us. TS TiMES, Special MONTHLY EDITION | L&T TECHNOLOGY SERVICES

When simple joys become hard to come by‌ Aruna Ranganathan, CSR, Mumbai, India My husband and I are dedicated runners – we have completed many half-marathons - and are so used to our regular morning walks that it has become a second nature to us. However, the lockdown brought about restrictions, and we did not move out of the house for almost three months (mid-March to mid-June), as we imparted our social and civic responsibility. When the lockdown was relaxed, gradually, we ventured out for a walk observing the social distancing guidelines. We started with weekends. The experience was no less than the feeling of a caged bird being released. Only during the lockdown, did we value the importance of walking, as it helps in reducing stress and relaxing our mind and bodies. Generally, walking is such an easy exercise, that at times it is even taken for granted!!!
Enjoying the morning walk on empty roads.
This is an important lesson that I have learnt during this pandemic, no joy is too small to take it for granted, and no sorrow is too big to carry it forever. Have a nice time, stay safe, and stay healthy.

There indeed is light at the end of the tunnel Abhishek J. M. Project Lead, Validation and Verification, Edison, USA. Pregnancies are good news, aren’t they? And though there are anxious moments, the expected news from a labor room is mostly positive, isn’t it? Especially in these modern times with the current technological advancements, that’s what you would think, right? But you would be amazed to know how many couples face unimaginable trials and tribulations during this supposedly "magical" experience of bringing a new life into this world. My story here will give you a glimpse into the other aspect of this journey – of uncertainty, unbelievable decisions and despair Ours was a fairytale too until the 7th month of my wife's pregnancy and it went downhill after that. A small problem turned out to be serious liver functionality issue that threatened the life of our unborn child. Various blood tests were done, the samples sent to Mumbai, but the doctors were not even close to diagnosing the problem. All we heard was that this was the ‘acute fatty liver of pregnancy’. We were asked to prepare for a premature delivery. The doctors suggested delivering in the 8th month as there was no other way out. I had to sign a form asking whether I would like to save the mother or baby, if it came to that. How could I consciously decide on whose life I wanted to save either my wife or my child? I signed that my wife had to be saved and whispered a sorry to my unborn child. The mountain of worries seemed to get higher and hopelessness engulfed our lives. Finally, when my wife Anusha entered the Operation Theatre like the warrior that she is, I had no inkling how this would end. Shortly after, a nurse called out my name to tell me good and bad news: Good news was that I was a proud father to a baby girl. On the other hand, my wife was headed to the ICU. My first words to our child was “We will get your mother back, ok?” 13 days later, my wife was discharged from the ICU, pale but happy, holding our little princess In the end, it not just turned out to be a magical experience, but one that tested our patience, faith, & hope.

INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY: FROM SNS' BOOKSHELF As the saying goes, "A man is a reflection of the company he keeps." They also say, “Books are a man’s best friend.” The gist of the matter is that books keep us happy and engaged as much as our best friends and family. But how do we choose what books to pick up and read? To help us in our literary pursuits and offer choice recommendations is none other than L&T’s CEO & MD and LTTS Vice Chairman S.N. Subhrahmanyan (SNS), who shares his list of Goodreads. World Literacy Day was celebrated on September 8th and we take this opportunity to introduce to you a few books that SNS recommends to colleagues in the L&T Group.
SHOE DOG BY PHIL KNIGHT In this book, the author, a co-founder of Nike, traces the journey of the brand from its early struggle to becoming one of the world's most recognized and profitable companies.
BILL GATES: A BIOGRAPHY BY MICHAEL BECRAFT In this book the author examines the life and achievements of a standout American inventor, philanthropist and Microsoft co-founder, Bill Gates, who helped transform the world by ushering in the era of ubiquitous personal computing.

RAFA: MY STORY BY RAFAEL NADAL AND JOHN CARLIN This is a very good read, providing wonderful insights into the life and rise of Rafael Nadal, the greatest tennis icon of our time and arguably the greatest-ever player on clay. MY YEARS WITH GENERAL MOTORS BY ALFRED SLOAN can be a picky read. the book chronicles the time Sloan led General Motors Corporation to international business success by virtue of his brilliant managerial practises and provides insights into the new consumer economy he and the company helped produce. One may also consider the lessons from America's best run yesteryear companies amalgamated in a book called Search of Excellence by Thomas J Peters and Robert H Waterman Jr. PAPILLON Papillon (meaning black butterfly) is a memoir by Henri Charriere and is an interesting read about his incarceration and subsequent escape from the French penal colony of French Guiana. The sequel to Papillon, Banco, is a compelling read about the author's life in Venezuela, where he escaped from the penal colony on Devil's Island.
THE BEST & THE BRIGHTEST BY DAVID HALBERSTAM In this book, the author puts forth his views on the Vietnam war, the foreign policies crafted by the academics and intellectuals in the U.S. administration and the disastrous consequences of those policies in Vietnam.
THE GODFATHER The Godfather by Mario Puzo is truly a riveting read about the fictional New York-based Mafia family of 'Don' Vito Corleone and arguably the best Mafia story ever written.
DA VINCI CODE BY DAN BROWN is a distinctly interesting read and a mystery thriller about the hero, Robert Langdon's attempts to unravel a 2000-year-old conspiracy by deciphering the ingenious code hidden in the works of Leonardo da Vinci.
