THE ‘OCCASIONAL’ LENS AUGUST SAW INDIA CELEBRATE TWO FESTIVALSGANESH CHATURTHI AND ONAM
Lord Ganesha is revered by millions in India as a God of wisdom and art and the occasion of ‘Ganesh Chaturthi’ marks the birth of this universally beloved deity. The festival is celebrated across India with huge fanfare whereby an idol of Ganesh is installed in households and in Pandals (temporary constructed stages). During the 10 days of the festival, Ganesha is praised by chanting ‘Aartis’ (religious hymns) and is offered his favorite food (Prasad) such as Modaks.

Onam is a festival celebrated in Kerala – a state located in Southern India and referred to as God’s own country for its scenic locales. It marks the commencement of the harvest season and is celebrated with much enthusiasm by Malayalis – a South-Indian community.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
Friday, 18 th September, saw our colleagues in Israel celebrate Rosh Hashanah - the Israeli New Year. The biblical name for this holiday is Yom Teruah, which literally translates to "day of shouting or blasting".
