Even at rest the body is constantly moving.

The Bumi Chair™ is a blank canvas for use, comfort, and perspective. It is for the body that adapts.

A
PART
OF
THE
ROOM
How does a piece of furniture become a part of the room? A chair can be a statement, can camouflage, can be mis-matched, contrasting, coveted, or forgotten. Sitting-down, attention is brought back to the room. Comfort can be the mind freeing itself from the body.
#006
The Bumi Chair is a place of rest for both the body and the room. It invites the room to inhabit it. The objects it hosts become a snapshot of this moment in time.

THE
ROOM
The chair base extends past the seat bottom to be flush with the rim of the seat back. The additional surface to bumi chair gives further function with minimal strokes. A staging area to be inhabited by nik-naks, items of the week, yesterday morning’s coffee mug, and any other item that lets the room and the day inhabit the chair.
#010
Finished in black oxide and lightly sealed, the steel surface will begin revealing patters of use. The surface will be a living part of the room, telling stories in its aging, wearing, and scuffing.

Sitting little more than a foot off the ground, the floor becomes an extension of the chair. This intimate relation to the base of the room creates further opportunities for sitting positions that contributes to the chair’s variable comfort.
#014
The upholstered rim of the seat back as been designed to give a subtle flex and relief when pressure is applied, adding to the experience of reaching over for your coffee mug.

The seat back and base are a continuous upholstered piece. The open shape of the Bumi Chair acts like an open glove. A thin cushion tops the seat base, giving additional comfort.

To contrast the soft and pliable top, a rigid steel frame makes up the structural platform. Thin sheet metal reaches up from the platform surface to cup the base of the chair upholstery, as if to persuade the blooming form.

Simple alterations and additions to the bumi chair create potential for expansion. A mirrored chair can complete the open form into a low love-seat arrangement. A unit with the curved backing removed gives additional lounging opportunity.

Combine the modular pieces as you please to grow further into a space and increase the social dynamic.
