3rd May – 30th June

Exhibition: Wake This show is inspired from a reference to the Tibetan concept of ‘Shul’ by cultural historian Rebecca Solnit. According to Solnit in her book “A Field Guide to Getting Lost”, Shul describes ‘the mark that remains after that which made it has passed by - a footprint, […] the scarred hollow in the ground where a house once stood.” This interesting and diverse show began with a series of creative sessions exploring the concept and each artist’s response to it. The exhibition combines painting, drawing and multi-media installations that encourage the viewer to look for the past within the present. Free of Charge

4th – 31st July

Exhibition: A Tribute to Jock MacHale In this exhibition of work featuring drawings, doodles, paintings, comic boards, sketch books and musings, Droichead Arts Centre along with his family and friends seek to pay tribute to Jock MacHale. A local artist whose life was cut short but whose memory and talent lives on in his art work. Free of Charge

August 9th – September 29th

Exhibition: Something from Nothing by Emmet Kierans Droichead Arts Centre is pleased to present Something from Nothing, a solo exhibition by Emmet Kierans. The exhibition is interested in the disparity between real space and mind space and how one influences the other. Some pieces use process and material to transform a simple thought into a simple action and an action into an object, thus mimicking the way the non-physical contents of the mind are translated from abstract ideas into physical form. Free of Charge

Theatre: The Fitzrovia Radio Hour Recreating the unique spirit of 1940s radio plays and brilliantly evoking a dinner-jacketed age of casual imperialism and stiff upper lips, The Fitzrovia Radio Hour’s brand new show comes to Droichead fresh from three critically acclaimed London residencies. Performed with cut-glass theatricality, blending homage and satire, Fitzrovia mixes the chauvinist attitudes of 1940s Britain with sharp contemporary humour to produce a heady comic cocktail. Throughout the plays, sound effects are created live: a Bakelite hairdryer imitates a heating torch, a desk fan becomes an aeroplane, and multiple types of cabbage help to stage a fight scene. Really good fun!

Highly recommended

The recent release of his critically acclaimed album Mag Pai Zai managed to top the success of Declan’s first two albums, holding its own in the top 10 for four consecutive weeks. ‘His voice is beautiful: a warm, velvety baritone that sometimes sounds like an Irish Rufus Wainwright, sometimes with a touch of Bruce Springsteen, and his songs strike a balance between instant appeal and longevity.’ – The Sydney Morning Herald.
