ABOUT TRIAD In 1963 Triad Architects Planners was founded by Amyas Connell and Graham McCullough. Amyas came to East Africa in 1946 with his reputation as a member of the International Movement and the respected practice of Connell Ward Lucas. The Parliament Buildings and the Attorney General Chambers in Nairobi are fine examples of the quality and style of his architecture. He won a RIBA Bronze for the design of the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi. Graham McCullough was the founder of the Professional Centre and his commitment to the development of professionalism and good management in architecture is established in Triad. He designed some of the first game lodges in East Africa. The Ark in the Aberdares, Samburu Lodge and the Keekorok Lodge in the Maasai Mara are a testimony to his innovative designs. Since 1963 Triad Architects has been a leading architectural and interior design company in East and Central Africa. Triad is run by a board of directors, with a technical support staff of over twenty professionals, based in Nairobi, Kampala and Kigali. The directors provide hands-on direction to all the projects in the office to ensure the highest quality of design and management. We have invested heavily in Information Technology and constantly strive to improve and develop new IT skills. In recognition of the ever growing complexity of the design and procurement of buildings, we constantly review all our systems to ensure the delivery of good quality, well designed buildings to our clients, within budget and on programme. ISO CERTIFICATION Triad Architects attained ISO 9001 certification in June 2000. ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies) and ISO 9001 is one of three International Standards dealing with quality system requirements that can be used for external quality assurance purposes. Triad was the first architectural practice to obtain this certification in East Africa. The title of ISO 9001 was revised and Triad obtained re-certification to ISO 9001:2000 in May 2004 and 2007. Triad updated their Quality Management System to ISO 9001:2008, and recertified in May 2013, this has continued to be applied to date with the biggest contributor being noted in the superior quality of output from Triad Architects Limited.

Kenya Parliament Building - 1963
Amyas Connell and Thornley Dyer were asked to design the new Le gislative buildings for the British Administration in 1963. After Independence the Legislative buil dings were renamed New Parliament Buildings. A difficult design problem arose with the Administrators who we re looking forward to a miniature version of the Palaces of Westminster set in the centre of Nairobi. Connell had to respect their views and eventually provided a miniature version of the Big Ben Clock Tower - although when completed it was the highest structure in Nairobi. Later additions included the new Assembly Chamber, fitted neatly on to the first stage building and reverting to Connell’ s interest in Corbusian design.

HVC - Safaricom Plantinum
Triad Architects were commissioned to design state of the art Safaricom VIPlounge the first Safaricom Retail Platinum Lounge in Kenya. The lounge has a new look and feel and the design creates a relaxed ambience for Safaricom Platinum customers with a water feature, to provide the calming ambience, service desks in rich mahogany finish and comfy lounge area. Entry into the lounge is only for platinum customers with access cards and members have a personal relationship manager, a direct customer care number and opportunity to preview and sample new devices before they are available to members of the public. The design employs simple colour tones and focuses on branding and one on one contact with the members. The lounge has Wifi among other goodies offered to it’s customers. Triad Architects worked closely with the client along with other consultants and managed a successful completion of the lounge which was officially launched by Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore on 9th July, 2014.

INSTITUTIONAL PROJECTS The World Agroforestry Centre is the headquaters of the International Council for Research into Agroforestry. In the campus there was a building called Block D which was a one storey building that housed the labs for soil search. The client wanted to extend this building and add some office spaces. The project therefore consisted of a lateral extension of the building and an additional floor. The building was designed so that the exterior maries with the exsisting buildings on the campus. Apart from the building extension, Triad was involved in the interior design of the space. The brief was a simple and a modern interior. The design employs a simple glass partitions to allow daylight in to the spaces and a predominantly white internal finish. Triad worked closely with the client along with other consultants and managed a successful completion of the project in July 2014.

INDUSTRIAL PROJECTS EXSAN house is a development of The NAS Holding Ltd which consist of a property for industrial mixed used. The property was developed to accommodate multiple use which includes:• Chloride Exide Warehouses, Customer services base and a show room • Ken chic sales Outlet, Laboratories and offices • NAS holding limited offices. • Support facilities for the staff Exsan house is located along Enterprise road next to David Engineering steel mills. The development covers a total plinth area of 4050 Square meters supported by ample car park spaces. We were engaged by the client for the all Architectural services for the main building including the interior design till occupation. The total project cost was Ksh 410 Million, completed November 2011 and an Occupation Permit obtained. EXSAN House

The design concept fully embraces the ideal climate that Nairobi has to offer. The living areas openened to great visitors of the landscaped areas. The KEMRI-WTRP offices is a modern office complex with three levels of office space for the WTRP programme. The building is designed to offer the ideal working environment to ensure seamless office operations for the occupants. These include ample parking space for 70 cars on two level split parking, state of the art internet connectivity, modern security features, and stand-by generator among others. The building hosts an internal courtyard which enhances cross ventilation while offering views to the internal landscaped garden within the atrium. Other environmental features include external heat absorbent glazing to the north and south and solid walls to the east and west facades which minimize the solar heat gain into the internal spaces. Atop the office spaces is a roof top eatery offering 360 views to the surrounding developments.

Qaribu Inn Located along Waiyaki Way in Loresho, Qaribu Inn is a 3 star budget hotel targeting both business and holiday travellers. Qaribu Inn has 61 guest rooms with the north facing wing overlooking landscaped gardens and a natural dam. The design challenge was to blend the serene natural environment in to a warm, cossy simple interior space with a minimum budget which was achived by carefully blending and balancing the finish material selection of the fitting items with the tight budget. Triad worked with other consultants supervising and cordinating both localy sourced and imported materials and fittings to successful completion of the project

MIXED DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS This is a mixed use development in Meru, consisting of Apartments and offices. A first development of its kind within the region. It is to have executive 2 & 3 bedroom apartments unit with easy access to a 6-storey office block adjacent. The shopping mall consists of a 4-storey of shops and 260 car parks. The team was commissioned by Fusion capital the client representative in June 2014 and is looking at a completion date of May 2017.

Ridgeways Residences Ridgeways residences is a proposed 102 acre housing scheme that captures the aspirations of the young and upwardly mobile individuals. The project consists of 700 houses,a club house, a day care and primary school and botique offices. The design was geared towards creating intergration of the community through activitiesreflected in the design emphasis of shared green spaces. Triad Architects were commissioned to develop the masterplan that would make the most untility of the land and create an identity for the residents of the proposed gated community.

Britam Serviced Apartments
The client’s key business objective was to achieve the highest and best use of the land and maximise returns for its investors. They therefore proposed serviced apartments (1, 2 and 3 bedroomed), to a target market that included expatriates and diplomatic staff. Considering this target market, the apartments had to have the highest standards in terms of design and quality to compete with other high quality apartments in any part of the world. Three proposals were developed to fully address the client’s brief and highlight the different options of land which included the client’s preference of a lowrise building and the current plot ratio and potential of a highrise development. The three proposals were the ‘Y’, the ‘courtyard’ and the ‘vista’. Triad’s preferred option was the “Y” because it was a unique design option and a definite landmark for Nyangumi road and its Environs. Its form was derived from the desire to avoid the direct overlooking of the apartments into each other within the development as well as similar potential cases from potential neighbouring developments.
