WHERE LUXURY RESIDES DUBAI HILLS ESTATE PROVES TO BE A PROMISING DEVELOPMENT WITH AWE-INSPIRING MANSIONS. A master-planned community, Dubai Hills Estate is the first phase in development of Mohammed Bin Rashid City. It is the result of a joint venture between master developer Emaar and Meraas Holding. The master mixed-use lifestyle development spans an area of over 11Â million square metres (2,700 acres) and is created with sustainability in mind. Mohammed Bin Rashid City, (where the development is located) is coined after the current ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum in 2012. It is touted to be a new tourist destination and said to construct the biggest mall in the world, called the Mall of the World. EMBRACE SOCIAL LIVING THE LUXHABITAT DESIGN STUDIO TAKES YOU THROUGH THEIR LATEST DESIGN CONCEPT WHERE OPEN SPACES AND SOCIAL LIVING TAKE CENTRE STAGE. Recently, the Luxhabitat Design Studio was commissioned with a complete refurbishment of a penthouse in Dubai. The four bedroom apartment currently is located in a central area of Dubai and oriented north west. It has exceptional views and spans 450 square metres. The current living space is divided into separate rooms; the living room space is separate from both the dining area as well as the kitchen. The kitchen is relatively small in comparison to the rest of the apartment. The client’s requirements included wanting to open and join in all the day areas to form a new “social area” for entertaining a large number of

guests. They also wanted to connect the open kitchen to the social area to promote an open living concept as well as create a massive space to entertain a high number of guests. They also wanted to maximise the surrounding views and give a panoramic appearance to the whole apartment. The layout was to be made in such a way that there was a wide area of table and kitchen island for the clients to enjoy an equally functional space. The client also wanted a very contemporary feel throughout the apartment, using modern elements and pieces with personality as well as colder materials for the formal living space and warmer materials for the private quarters. Of course, that’s where our design studio stepped in to help transform this home.

In the concept designed by us, we find an extended formal area designed for group meetings. The colors are a lot more colder and subtle. The whole formal area is composed simple interior architecture with white plaster walls and concrete flooing The exposed concrete gives us freshness and brings a raw feeling to this room, making it the perfect choice. The neutral interior architecture seeks to emphasize the purpose of this room. The views are emphasized from this room, and natural light pervades throughout. The formal area is distributed in a functional manner, with the

kitchen in the centre and a meeting area following it.All the furniture used range from a contemporary to modern style. As you enter, you are graced with a formal living section of the room which has a sofa, a daybed and two armchairs. The concept was conceived in order to avoid closing off of the areas, thus seeking continuity without barriers. The furniture is versatile enough to be moved about and the arm chairs are rotatable to change orientation. The massive table can accommodate up to 10 people and is directly connected to the kitchen in order to offer more comfort and convenience between the two areas.

GRANTORINO Jean-Marie Massaud takes inspiration from the world of saddlery and deisgn to form Grantorino. There’s a huge amount of freedom in how you put it all together. It’s a modular sofa with an exquisite, original version that combines saddle extra leather with Pelle Frau leather or fabric. www.poltronafrau.com

The dining area is situated near the windows to enjoy natural light. The kitchen area is open and connected to both the dining and seating area. It includes a large island that can be used as a meeting point. It’s a social kitchen, which means that all appliances and cooking areas are hidden. The island consists of a space to sit four stools for informal dining. Apart from the grand opening, the kitchen has other access points to the family room and corridor. The entire kitchen designed to enjoy natural light.To continue the seamless feel of the whole formal area we created direct way that leads to the family room. As we head towards the more private areas, the materials are changed to enjoy more comfort. The flooring is parquet and there are darker colours incorporated. To the separate family room, we added a large comfortable and a comfortable space to sit and enjoy watching TV, listening to music or reading.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS YOUR GUIDE TO SOURCING THE RIGHT MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY OUTDOOR FURNITURE IN DUBAI Even though we rarely get to enjoy the great outdoors, we pretty much are assured of sunshine all year round here in Dubai. Of course, this means getting the right furniture that can sustain the harsh heat and making sure your plants don’t suffer during the summer months. With a rise in interest with self-gardening, more and more people are growing their own produce. Here’s a Luxhabitat guide to furnishing your outdoor spaces:

CHALLENGE THE STATUS QUO ASTON MARTIN REVEALS ITS FIRST ENTRY TO THE NAUTICAL WORLD. When we think of Aston Martin, a boat hardly ever comes to mind. However, during the Monaco Yacht Show in September 2016, it released its first two boat models, the AM37 and the AM37S; creating history for the brand as its debut entry into the yachting world. This day-cruiser yacht can reach speeds up to 50 knots and is seamless in design. Conceptualised by craftsmen who invented some of the most iconic Aston Martin cars, including the One-77, Aston Martin Vulcan and the DB11, this boat is a force to be reckoned with. The exterior of AM37 features dynamic proportions in a design that is simple, yet immaculately executed. The boat is set apart by the attention to detail in every element of its design. The wraparound windscreen has been created from a single piece of sculpted glass fluidly draped over the AM37’s foredeck. With extreme double curvature, it sets a new industry standard, adding seamless beauty to the overall appearance.

Sliding deck technology allows owners to cover the cockpit of the boat completely at the touch of a button. The three lightweight carbon panels, operated by the AM37 key, fold under the aft deck when the cockpit is uncovered. The Luminor 1950 case, with the black ceramic bridge protecting and sealing the winding crown, is made of sandblasted black ceramic, a material synthesised from zirconium oxide powder which is both light and tough as well being resistant to scratches, corrosive agents and high temperatures. The classic shape of the case 47 mm in diameter is created by a complex series of working and finishing operations which also give it a particularly uniform, smooth matte appearance. The unidirectional rotating bezel enabling the length of the dive to be determined is made of the same matte ceramic as the case. The only colour which contrasts with the profound black of the case and of the dial is the ecru Super-LumiNova® on the applied hour markers, the graduated scale and the partially skeletonised hands. The date window is at three o’clock while the classic. Panerai small seconds dial is positioned at nine o’clock. The case is sealed by a titanium back coated in black, with a S.L.C. torpedo engraved in the middle, and hosts the hand-wound

It has two spring barrels which are constantly wound by a weight oscillating in both directions, providing a power reserve of three days. The movement also has a convenient system for adjusting the hour hand which can be moved forward or backwards in steps of exactly one hour, at the same time also changing the date displayed. The Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Ceramica (PAM00508) is water-resistant to 30 bar (300 metres) and it is supplied with a black calf leather strap, fastened by a large trapezoid-shaped buckle in brushed titanium coated in black. It has been produced in an edition limited to 1,000 examples. It’s not realistic to buy an artwork you don’t like and see it every day, every week, every month or every year. This way, if one day you decide to resell the piece, the sale will be much easier. If you love it, others will love it too.

The investment rating is essential in any act of acquisition in the market of art. Only a few pieces of artworks could be considered as serious investment. If you get a chance, say hi to the resident heron George who often wanders about the area and is very camera friendly! The activities are endless at Constance Moofushi with a house reef that hosts 32 dive sites found within half an hour of the resort. The snorkelling experience here is outstanding with guests likely to encounter Giant Porcupinefish, Hawksbill turtles, Orange Anthias, and possibly even large blue Napoleonfish. I was also lucky to spot black tip sharks, mantas and stingrays on my snorkel trip. Guests can also take advantage of some

of the free facilities such as kayaking, and a gym. You can enjoy a spot of sunrise or sunset yoga at the dedicated al fresco pavilion to unleash your inner zen . Though the spa is chargeable, I highly recommend a visit for a massage in their rooms with glorious sea views. The all-inclusive Cristal Package is the only way to go at this resort. It is a long list of inclusive items, which includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, cocktails and snacks; as well as activities, so feel free to help yourself to the mini bar. After I left, all I could think of was only one thing - how soon I could come back!

DUBAI HARBOUR HERE’S WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THIS 20 MILLION SQUARE FEET MEGAPROJECT In the beginning of 2017, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE unveiled plans of a project called ‘Dubai Harbour’. Holding plenty of promise, this new luxury project is going to have 1,400 berths and is set to be the largest in the Middle East and North Africa region. It’s to the left of the Palm Jumeirah and to the right of Skydive Dubai and Dubai Marina. It will also feature a cruise ship port and terminal, a shopping mall covering 3.5 million sq. feet, an events arena, residential buildings, hotels, offices, retail stores, public services, restaurants and cafes and ‘Dubai Lighthouse’. There will be both high- and low-rise residential buildings, as well as waterfront villas and houses. In terms of infrastructure, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will be working alongside the Dubai government in order to ensure connectivity via different transport stations throughout the area. This includes: a bridge that connects the project directly from Sheikh Zayed Road, a monorail system that will link to the metro from both Palm Jumeirah and Bluewaters Island. A pedestrian bridge will also connect ‘Dubai Harbour’ to Palm Jumeirah. The aim is for the project to also have three helipads and multiple water

stations. REINVENTING TRANSPORTATION THE HYPERLOOP ONE IS THE UAE’S ANSWER TO HIGH-TECH TRANSPORTATION.

The UAE is one step closer to being the world’s first location for a new form of high speed transport system that can enable people to travel from Abu Dhabi to Dubai in twelve minutes, following an agreement signed today between Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) and pioneering mobility company, Hyperloop One. The idea of a Hyperloop – a low-pressure tube through which levitating pods containing both passengers and goods can travel at up to 1,200 km/h – has recently gained attention around the world. Benefits include higher standards of safety than a passenger jet, lower build and maintenance costs than high-speed rail, and energy usage, per person, that is similar to a bicycle. Director General & Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, H.E. Matter Al Tayer, commented on the agreement, saying, “In line with the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum – Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai – RTA is collaborating closely with Dubai Future Accelerators to support innovative solutions for the future of mobility. “This is an opportunity to help transform the UAE from a technology

consumer to a technology creator, incubating expertise for a new global industry, in line with the UAE’s Vision 2021. Al Roumi is one of eight women handed ministerial roles in one of the biggest shake-ups of UAE government. Al Roumi was previously Director General of the Prime Minister’s Office in Dubai. Hamad Al Rahoomi, an FNC member, said of the new role: “I am happy with the new position of Minister of Happiness. “It’s already sending a good message that the UAE loves to see its people happy.” he said. “The minister’s job also involves coming up with new ideas and policies that would help government improve people’s wellbeing so they can have happy lives.” The legislator added that the role would help push for better services that promote people’s welfare and ensure that all government policies and legislation add value to people’s happiness especially in providing them with quality and standard lives. Al Roumi will be joined by a new minister of tolerance, Sheikha Lubna bint

Khaled al Qasimi, previously the minister of foreign trade, who became the UAE’s first female minister in 2004. Happiness is a serious job for governments,” said Ms Al Roumi. “The main job for the government is to create happiness. In 2011, the UN encouraged the member countries to look at happiness for a holistic approach for development.” Ms Al Roumi, who was speaking to news channel CNN, said: “The role of the government is to create an environment where people can flourish – can reach their potential – and choose to be happy. “For us in the UAE, happiness is very important. I am a very happy and positive person and I choose to be happy every day because this is what pushes me, this is what motivates me, this is what gives a sense of purpose to my life, so I always choose to see the glass half full,” she said. The UAE currently ranks as 28th happiest country in the world according to the UN World Happiness Report.
