STARE MISTO ROCK FEST 2013 June 8–9, Stadium “Ukraine” (5 Lypova Aleya St.) The long awaited rock-festival ‘Stare Misto’ will finally come back after last year’s hiatus and will occur at the stadium ‘Ukraine’ during the weekend of June 8-9th 2013. Headliners of the festival will include: Russian band “DDT” one of the most successful and prolific Russian musical groups of the 20th and 21st centuries and Goran Bregovic – one of the most internationally recognized modern musicians and composers of the Balkans. Among the special guests of the festival will be: Che Sudaka (Barcelona) who will amaze the audience with “mestizaje music” (Latin Alternative), a style combining traditional South American and Spanish styles with touches of ska, reggae, rock and world music. І знову львівська рок-публіка дочекалась свого фестивалю «Старе місто», що відбудеться на стадіоні «Україна» у вихідні 8-9 червня 2013 року. THIS MONTH IN LVIV INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL ALFA JAZZ FEST ‘13 June 13-16, Rynok Square, Potocki Palace Courtyard (15 Kopernika St.), B. Khmelnytsky Park of Culture and Leisure (Vytovskogo St.) World famous jazz musicians will flock to Lviv for the international music festival Alfa Jazz Fest, which is considered tp be the most important and interesting open-air jazz music festival in Eastern Europe. The event will showcase world class jazz musical performances on three stages: Rynok Square, Potocky Palace Courtyard and the Bohdan Khmelnytsky Park of Culture and Leisure introducing Leopolitans and guests of the city to talented musicians from all over the world. The main festival events will be held on the main stage in the Boghdan Khmelnytsky Culture Park, which was given the honor of hosting the great jazz musician Eddie Rosner and where the of the festival’s headlining performances will take place. Throughout the festival, the stage will be open for guests from 19-00 till the last note. Festival guests will be offered seating in both the comfortable parterre in front of the stage and on the Park hills in the picnic zone. The highest level the stage acoustics will allow for full enjoyment of the magnificent sound of the world’s jazz stars and videos streamed live on the huge screens will allow visitors to follow the performance even in the most distant corners of the park. Ray Horton was born in the German city of Heidelberg, where his father worked for the US-Army. Ray’s past in the music business goes back to “The Real Milli Vanilli”, in 1990, where he was a singer/rapper. After that, he was a member of the group Try’n’B (1992) which had some hits like “Sexy Eyes” and “Tell Me Where It Hurts”. Ray’s first solo single was released in 1999, and was called “Because I love you”. Starting from 2003, Ray featured in many musical projects, but it was some time before we heard something new from Ray. In Bamberg, Germany (where he was living until the end of 2008), he hooked up with the producers Drastic and DMO from “Chrome Headz”. Ray was impressed by their performance and the musicians started working together. In 2007-2008, Ray and the Chrome Headz released many amazing songs like, “Under The Bridge”, “Our Story ( Happy Birthday”, “Crappy New Year”, “From me 2 U” some of which will be performed for the guests of ”Picasso” Nightclub birthday party! Okean Elzy (abbreviated OE) is the most successful post-Soviet rock band of CIS and Eastern Europe, having sold over one million albums in Ukraine and Russia. The cult rock band was formed in 1994 in Lviv, and early 1998 OE moved to Kyiv and recorded their first full album. In 1999, at the festival “Taurus Games”, OE was awarded with “Breakthrough of the Year” and “Best Song” (“Where, there are no us”). In April 2007, Okean Elzy received the FUZZ Magazine music award “Best Rock Act”. On February 8th 2012, the band “Okean Elzy” deservedly received the YUNA Award (Yearly Ukrainian National Awards) as the best musical group in Ukraine for the last 20 years. Having recorded 7 successful albums, the band is currently ready to unveil their newest album, “Earth”. In the beginning of 2013, the band’s vocalist and frontman Svyatoslav Vakarchuk announced on the band’s website info about the new album and a grand tour of 27 cities in Ukraine. The tour will begin at the “Spartak” Stadium in Mukachevo on May 18, 2013 and will end its Ukrainian leg of the tour, with a concert in the Kyiv Sports Palace on September 28th 2013. The festival will present music lovers with a unique opportunity to participate in various musical training and master classes, to enjoy performances and chamber music concerts, get acquainted with modern Ukrainian compositions, foreign composers and much more. During the festival’s program, one of the days will be dedicated to Hutsul heritage and will showcase traditional ethnic songs, dances, fun fortune telling customs and even climbing Hoverla (highest peak in Ukraine). Among the festival participants will be musicians from Ukraine and Poland – the string trio «Rockoko» (Lviv), quartet «Fagotissimus» (Lviv), Tetyana Boretska (Poland), Ivan Pahota (Poland), Kyrilo Stetsenko (violin), fire-show group “ProFire” (Lviv) and many others. Highlights of the event will be the violin playing master class by Kyrilo Stetsenko (Kyiv), a performance showcasing the music by Ukrainian-Polish composer Ivan Pahota. The youngest participants of “KarpatyArt 2013” musicians from the towns of Yaremche and Vorokhta, together with the string ensemble «Quattro Corde» (Ivano-Frankivsk) are expected to garner special attention. This June in Lviv an interesting cultural initiative – a Ukrainian-German Cooperation Project “Municipal development and rehabilitation of the Old City of Lviv” will be implemented. The event, which was held for the first time last year under the name of “Urban Workshop”, got enormous attention and appreciation from Leopolitans and guests of the city. Thus the people behind this project decided to make a come back this year. Starting from June 1st 2013, in the city centre at Rynok Square a special area will be arranged, which will host many cultural events, master-classes, exhibitions, sports activities, presentations etc. The focus of this year’s project will be the city’s urban development, which is influenced by its citizens. “Municipal development and rehabilitation of the Old City of Lviv” will provide a good platform for citizens and guests of Lviv for sharing new ideas, discussing modern ways and possibilities of development of the city while preserving its glorious past, traditions and cultural heritage. У червні цього року у Львові буде реалізована цікава культурна ініціатива – спільний українсько-німецький проект « Муніципальний розвиток та оновлення старої частини міста Львова «. Проведена вперше минулого року «Міська майстерня» заслужила велику увагу і вдячність львів’ян та гостей міста, тому організатори проекту вирішили повторити її ще й цьогоріч. Починаючи з 1 червня 2013 року в центрі міста на площі Ринок буде організована спеціальна зона, де проходитимуть соціальні та культурні заходи, майстеркласи, виставки, спортивні заходи, презентації тощо. Основною темою проекту стане ідея урбаністичного розвитку міста, яке залежить від своїх громадян. Цей особливий українсько-німецький проект покликаний надати жителям і гостям Львова платформу для обміну новими ідеями, обговорення сучасних шляхів та можливостей розвитку міста з обов’язковим збереженням славного минулого, традицій і культурної спадщини. Участь у проекті «Муніципальний розвиток та відновлення старої частини міста Львова» для всіх бажаючих буде безкоштовною. Всі бажаючі зможуть взяти на прокат велосипед безкоштовно. CHEREMOSH UKRAINIAN DANCE COMPANY IN LVIV May 21, beginning: 17:00 Gnat Hotkevych Palace of Culture (1, Kushevycha str.) The Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company from Edmonton, Canada will be touring Ukraine in May 2013 performing in Kyiv, IvanoFrankivsk, Chernivtsi and Lviv. At a series of unique concerts, the 50 dancers of Cheremosh will be performing together with local Ukrainian folk dance ensembles including the Honoured Academic Bukovinian Song and Dance Company (Chernivtsi) and the Hutsul National Academic Song and Dance Ensemble “Hutzulia” (Ivano-Frankivsk). The 18-day long tour will showcase for Ukrainian audiences, the professional level of Ukrainian folk dance which has been upheld by the Ukrainian-Canadian diaspora. In addition to their performances, Cheremosh will be participating in workshops with Ukraine’s leading choreographers. Founded in 1969, and over the past 40 years, Cheremosh has become a leader in Ukrainian dance in Canada. This company has had the opportunity to perform extensively throughout Canada the United States, Mexico, China, Scotland, England and Bulgaria. Through discipline, determination and pride, “Cheremosh” has earned phenomenal success as a semi-professional folk dance ensemble. ULTRASONIC DANCE MUSIC FEST 2013 June 8, Beginning: 19.30 Stadium ‘Arena Lviv’ (199 Stryiska St.) The open air Ultrasonic Dance Music Fest 2013 will take place in Lviv offering music lovers the unique chance to enjoy top DJs performing in our city! A highlight of the Ultrasonic Festival 2013 will be the performance by the group “Swanky Tunes” from Russia. The group formed in 1998, experimenting with different electronic styles while searching for their own sound. These days, hints of techno, electro-80s and contemporary progressive house movements are all finding their way into the compositions by this group. “Swanky Tunes” was named ‘Best Musical Group’ in 2006 and 2007 at the Russian Dance Music Awards and they are currently ranked #14 among the Top 100 DJs of Russia. “Swanky Tunes” lastest music releases have been heavily supported by Tiesto, David Guetta, Sandern Van Doorn, Swedish House Mafia, Laidback Luke and Dirty South. LVIV STREET ART FESTIVAL May 25–26, 2013, Rynok Square The 2nd Lviv Street Art Festival will take place in the western Ukrainian city during weekend of May 25–26th 2013. In keeping with tradition, the festival will unite representatives of various types of street art—craftsmen producing hand made goods, street performers, graffiti artists and musicians. The event, Lviv Street Art Fest will also feature a fair number of handmade goods, performances by street artists, an alley of graffiti, as well as numerous master-classes on tons of unique handcrafts. This year’s celebration of Lviv’s 757th birthday lasted during the weekend of May 8-12th and presented Leopolitans and guests of the city with a rich and colorful entertainment program, including impressive street theater performances, concerts and festivals. Lviv’s historical centre together with Rynok Square were transformed into a whirlpool of many festive activities – an open air film screening featuring a selection of the best romantic films, concerts, parades, theatrical performances, etc. Among the more notable highlights of the celebrations were the fun-filled traditional “Batyar Day” festival as well as the annual musical delight – ХІ International Jazz and Folk Music Festival “Flugery of Lviv”.

Цього року святкування 757-ї річниці міста тривало протягом 8–12 травня, і всі охочі львів’яни та гості міста познайомились з багатою і яскравою розважальною програмою, до якої входили різноманітні вуличні театральні вистави, концерти й фестивалі. Вже традиційно історична частина Львова, починаючи з площі Ринок, перетворилась на сцену для проведення багатьох святкових заходів – відкритих кіносеансів найкращих романтичних фільмів, концертів, парадів, театральних вистав – всього не перелічиш. Серед найбільш помітних подій святкування не можна було оминути веселих хлопців і дівчат на традиційному фестивалі «День батяра», а також концерти ХІ Міжнародного фестивалю джазової та народної музики «Флюгери Львова».

During the City Day celebrations Ukraine’s first beer brand presented a unique project “Music, born in Lviv”. This year’s city day will be remembered by a grand festivity – a unique musical chronicle “Music, born in Lviv”, organized by TM “Lvivske”. On May 11th 2013, in the very heart of the Halycian capital it’s 300 years long musical history was put on full display. On this memorable day “Music, born in Lviv” the works by recognized composers and artists, who were inspired by city of Lviv – from Franz Xavier Mozart to Volodymyr Ivasyuk came alive. On the fabulous scene were famous artists – Pavlo Tabakov, Nazar Savko, Vladislav Levitskyi, Olena Korneeva, group “Green Silence” and vocal group “Pikkardiyska Tertsiya”, all of who presented Lviv’s legendary golden hits. Choreography of the musical chronicle was presented by the spectacular ballet troupe “Zhyttya” of Irina Mazur. Also, within the project “Music born in Lviv”, a memorial plaque dedicated to the glorious Ukrainian composer Anatoliy Kos-Anatolskiy was presented to the public by the TM “Lvivske”. Lviv’s exquisite restaurants on this special day offered guests a unique menu comprised of dishes, prepared according to recipes of known musical families of Lviv: bigos “Bohemia” from the Kos-Anatolskiy, schnitzel “Near Vatra” from the Bilozir family, potato flapjacks “Lvivski” with a mushroom filling from the Ivasyuk family…

День Львова-2013 запам’ятався грандіозним святкуванням від пива «Львівське» – музичним літописом “Музика, народжена Львовом”. 11 травня у самісінькому серці столиці Галичини звучала її трьохсотлітня музична історія. “Музика, народжена Львовом” ожила того дня у творах найвідоміших композиторів та виконавців, які були натхненні містом Лева: від Ксавера Моцарта до Володимира Івасюка. На феєричній сцені легендарні львівські шлягери виконували вокальна формація “Піккардійська Терція”, Павло Табаков, Назар Савко, Владіслав Левицький, Олена Корнєєва та гурт Green Silence. Хореографічне оформлення музичного літопису здійснив балет Ірини Мазур “Життя”. Також у рамках проекту “Музика, народжена Львовом” від ТМ “Львівське” у Львові відкрито меморіальну дошку славетному українському композитору Анатолю Кос-Анатольському. From April 17th– May 12th 2013, Lviv’s Art Gallery hosted a retrospective exhibition of the recognized Ukrainian–Hungarian artist Marion Ilku. The event was dedicated to “Days of Hungarian Culture in Lviv 2013” which was organized by both the General Consul of Hungary in Uzhgorod, Mr. Jozsef Bacskai and the Society of Hungarians living in Lviv. Marion Ilku is widely recognised in Ukraine mostly as a printmaker and illustrator, however the exhibition showcased the master’s creative works in different styles and from various periods of his life.

У львівській галереї мистецтв з 17 квітня по 12 травня 2013 р. відбулася ретроспективна виставка відомого українсько - угорського художника Маріона Ілку. Захід, приурочений до “Днів угорської культури у Львові 2013”, був спільно організований Генеральним консульством Угорщини в Ужгороді, генеральним консулом Угорщини в Ужгороді, Йозефом Бачкаї та угорською громадою Львова. Маріон Ілку широко відомий в Україні в основному як гравер та ілюстратор, і на виставці були представлені творчі роботи майстра різних стилів і різних періодів його життя.

HASIDIC PILGRIMAGE Over 2,000 Hasidic Jews from Israel, Hungary, Russia, Great Britain, Belgium and other countries arrived in the town of Belz (Western Ukraine) to worship a Hasidic Saint respected as a miracle worker. Being the home for a powerful Hasidic population before WWII, Belz attracts Jews with its numerous burial places of rabbis and has become a pilgrimage destination for the adherents of Hasidism from all over the world. The town of Belz has existed since the 10th c., the Jewish community was established during the 14th c. It became home to Hasidic Judaism in the early 19th century and at the beginning of World War II, Belz had 6,100 inhabitants, of which 3,600 were Jewish. The founder of the dynasty was Rabbi Shalom Rokeach, also known as Sar Shalom, who was inducted as Rabbi of Belz in 1817. He personally helped build the city’s large and impressive synagogue. Pilgrims pray for the souls of their saints at the site of the former synagogue and the next pilgrimage of Hasidic Jews will take place in two years, as traditionally such pilgrimages are conducted once every two years.

ХАСИДСЬКЕ ПАЛОМНИЦТВО Понад 2000 євреїв-хасидів з Ізраїлю, Угорщини, Росії, Великобританії, Бельгії та інших країн прибули в містечко Белз (Сокальський р-н, Львівської області), щоб поклонитися хасидському святому, якого поважали як чудотворця. Перед Другою світовою війною Белз був значним центром хасидського руху, і тут знаходяться численні поховання рабинів, через що містечко стало святим місцем для прихильників хасидизму з усього світу. Як місто Белз існує принаймні з 10-го століття, а єврейська громада створюється тут ще в 14 столітті. Юдеї-хасиди оселяються тут на початку 19 століття, а вже у 1914 році, в місті було 6100 жителів, з яких 3600 були євреями. Засновником династії був раббі Шалом Роках, також відомий як Сар Шалом, якого призначили рабином у Белз у 1817 році. Він особисто допомагав будувати величну міську синагогу. Прибулі з багатьох країн євреї-хасиди молилися за душі своїх святих, співали й танцювали на місці колишньої синагоги, а наступного разу вони прибудуть сюди знову через два роки, бо саме так, традиційно вони поминають своїх святих. “THE MAGIC FLUTE” PREMIERE On April 13th 2013, the Lviv Opera and Ballet Theatre premiered “The Magic Flute” – an opera in two acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with a German libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder. This musical masterpiece was created in the form of a Singspiel, a popular style that includes both singing and spoken dialogue. For the first time “The Magic Flute” was presented to an audience in 1791 at the Schikaneder’s theater in Vienna. Poland’s Merited Artist- Zbigniew Hshanovsky directed the opera and Ukraine’s Merited Artist Miron Yusipovich conducted the orchestra.

Вперше “Чарівна флейта” була представлена глядачам у 1791 році в театрі Шиканедера у Відні. Постановку опери здійснив Заслужений діяч мистецтв Польщі режисер Збігнев Хшановскі, диригував оркестром заслужений артист України Мирон Юсипович.

ARTSTUDIO VOLUIKY EXHIBITION On April 26th 2013, the Lviv Art Palace hosted the opening of the unique exhibition by «ArtStudio VOLUIKY» showcasing the creative works by the “100 best painters of Ukraine”. The exhibition was organized by artist Serhiy Hai, who first introduced the idea for married couples of painters to spend some time each year on a creative vacation at the Voluiky farm (near Olesky castle), Lviv region. Among the participants of the project were such recognized painters as: Andriy Bludov, Nataliya Karpinska, Alla Alekseeva, Serhiy Hai, Iryna Kovalenka, Olena Pryduvalova, Olexiy Apollonov, Lyudmyla Boguslavska, Volodymyr Boguslavsky, Sergiy Konstantinov, Mykola Zhuravel and many others. The exhibition presents contemporary art lovers with an amazing chance to admire masterpieces from an ongoing artistic experiment.

UK AMBASSADOR VISITS LVIV His Excellency Simon Smith, The United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Ukraine, visited Lviv on April 23, 2013. The Ambassador met with the Head Lviv Regional State Administration, Victor Shemchuk and discussed issues of cooperation between the UK and Ukraine, as well as investment possibilities within Western Ukraine. During his visit, Ambassador Simon Smith also visited Ivan Franko Lviv National University and took part in a discussion panel with students and teachers of the University. That evening at “GARMATA” Restaurant in the Citadel Inn Hotel the Annual Lviv Reception and Dinner too place. Ukraine has many potentially attractive

sectors for investment R

ecently, His Excellency Mr Simon Smith Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Ukraine visited Lviv and shared his views on some issues regarding economic relationships between Ukraine and UK with readers of “Lviv Today”. Simon Smith was born in 1958 in Germany and studied modern languages at Wadham College, Oxford University. Simon Smith joined the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1986, after one year in the East African Department, he undertook Japanese language training before being posted to Tokyo as Second, later First Secretary (1989-1992). He has held several positions in the FCO in London, including Deputy Head of Southern European Department (1995-1997), Head of North East Asia & Pacific Department (20022004), Head of Eastern Department (20042005) and Director for Russia, South Caucasus and Central Asia (2005-2007). He was posted in Moscow as Counsellor (Economic/ Commercial), responsible for the promotion of trade and investment, from 1998 to 2002. From 2007 until August 2012, he was the British Ambassador to Austria, and the UK’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organisations in Vienna, and Governor on the Board of the International Atomic Energy Agency. When he is not at work, he enjoys playing piano, trombone and trumpet, cooking, exploring the literature of the country in which he is living, and sport – mainly as a spectator, but still playing a bit of football and cricket when he can. He speaks English, German, Russian, French and Japanese, and he is keenly studying Ukrainian. Did you visit Ukraine before coming to this country as ambassador? I first came to Kyiv in 1994 for a 2 day working visit. I was back in Ukraine in 2000 for a family holiday in Yalta, and I spent 2 weeks in L’viv in March 2012 (while I was still British Ambassador in Vienna) to take my first steps in learning the Ukrainian language, with the help of excellent teachers and mentors at the Ivan Franko National University of L’viv. So when I arrived in Kyiv in September 2012 to start my job as Ambassador, it was already my fourth time in the country. An ambassador should know as much as possible about the country he is posted to. What helped you most to learn more about Ukraine? Before I started my job as Ambassador here, reading helped me most: literature, history and the press. I have always been fascinated by the way in which the map of Europe has changed in the last 2000 years, and how peoples and languages have moved across that landscape. tory is extremely interesting, and reading about it from various sources increased my enthusiasm about coming to live and work in today’s Ukraine. I treat almost everything I do in my job as a learning experience in one way or another, but I also try to keep improving my background knowledge of contemporary Ukraine by continuing to read as much as I can – in Ukrainian, Russian, and English – of the news and current affairs media. (But somehow, I still never seem to have much time to watch TV!) What are the most important sectors of economic cooperation between Ukraine and United Kingdom? There are many British companies established across Ukraine and exporting to Ukraine. British companies are active in a wide range of sectors – pharmaceutical, energy, retail, infrastructure, education, financial and professional services, as well as agriculture. Many well-known British brands are already present in the Ukrainian market. UK exports to Ukraine have grown for the last two years – by 7% in 2012 and by 19% in 2011. UK exports in 2012 were over £ 581 mln and in 2011 almost £543 mln. Total bilateral trade in 2011 was over US$1bn (almost £900 mln). Foreign investors show some interest in the development of the tourist infrastructure in the Western Ukraine. Do you happen to know whether any investors from UK show any interest in this region? I am aware of a number of UK companies with investment and interest in Ukraine, but we are, of course, very keen to promote and advance trade ties and business links between Western Ukraine and the UK. Ukraine has many potentially attractive sectors for investment – energy, including unconventional gas, energy efficiency and renewables, agriculture and infrastructure. This list is not exhaustive and I believe will include more opportunities over time. In your opinion, how could economic relations between the two countries – Ukraine

and United Kingdom – be strengthened? One clear example I’d like to give is the potential benefits of the ‘deep and comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, as part of EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. The Association will bring many economic benefits and also encourage British exporters and investors as a result of the harmonisation of legislation and Ukraine’s inclusion in the EU single market. We believe that the DCFTA/AA will lead to an overall improvement in the business and investment climate, particularly through tackling such important issues as corruption, lack of transparency and the weak rule of law. At the same time, the UK welcomes international investors and my Embassy’s Trade and Investment team are always happy to hear from Ukrainian businesses looking to develop business opportunities with British companies. What would you recommend to take the Lviv city authorities to attract investors from UK? During my recent meetings in Lviv with the regional governor and Lviv city Vice-Mayor, I saw at first hand that that they already have some good ideas about how to attract international investors. A good example of this is the International Investment and Innovation Forum “High Technologies for Development and Welfare” to be held in Lviv on 6–7 June. It is not for me to advise the Lviv authorities of course. But another idea might be some sort of promotional campaign in the UK highlighting tourism, investment and business opportunities of this region. And perhaps, in the longer-term, they might consider how to introduce direct flights between Lviv and the UK as a potential way of boosting tourism and economic ties. John Hughes is famous in Ukraine as the founder of Donetsk – why is he not better known in the UK? Britain is often referred to as the birthplace of the industrial revolution, and there were a great many people like John Hughes who set out from Britain during the 19th century to bring new industrial technologies and methods of working to other parts of the world. The BBC produced a feature on Hughes some years ago, and I am sure that thousands more people in the UK learned about this British connection with Donetsk when the England football team played there during Euro 2012. A lot of my ancestors came from the South Wales region as John Hughes, so it’s a connection I am always happy to celebrate.

Can we start with an introduction of your company? How do you position yourselves on the market? Porsche Finance Group is a group of companies, consisting of Porsche Leasing Ukraine, which offers car lease services, Porsche Mobility Ukraine, which is dealing with credit financing of cars, and Porsche Insurance Agency - an intermediate in selling casco insurance to our clients. We started operations in Ukraine in late 2007, and developed our group of companies basically from scratch. In the meantime, we have become quite an important player on the market, and now we are the biggest leasing company in terms of new contracts activation, and a strong player in terms of credit financing. Currently our company consists of about 60 employees and our active contracts’ portfolio is approximately 10,000 cars – I would say, it is quite impressive development for such a relatively short term. Do you have any plans for expansion? What are your growth ambitions? For now, our new engagement is insurance intermediation for cash clients. So far we sold insurance solutions, like casco (hull insurance), always in the combination with car financing contracts. And now we have started to intermediate these insurance solutions and packages to our cash clients what gives us access to a wider range of customers. Besides, in the long term we have a strong intention to start our own insurance business on Ukrainian market like Porsche Bank AG does in bigger EU markets. What key market drivers are positively impacting your business? Quality, reliability and loyalty - these are the characteristics we have to implement and prove for not only to survive on the market but also to be on the top tiers. Our business and our investment is long-term-oriented, we are not interested to make quick and fast money tomorrow and then leave the market. We

are engaged in a long run. The average duration of our financing contract is fourfive years. That’s why being engaged in Ukraine we think in terms of generations. Car partners of Porsche Finance Group in Ukraine include Volkswagen, Audi, Seat and Porsche. Do you plan to introduce other brands? We are mainly focused on our group brands mentioned, but we also ready to work with other car brands provided the client’s car park includes VW, Audi, Seat and Porsche, and to cover each and every brand which will come into Ukraine under the responsibility of Porsche Ukraine as an importer. Porsche Bank AG has already launched financing for heavy trucks like SCANIA, MAN, and VOLKSWAGEN Trucks. Predictably enough, we will also soon be able to launch such business in Ukraine. What is your top priorities for the next 12 months? We have one very clear priority – that is financing products in local currency, in hryvnia, because so far all our car financing projects are linked to hard currency, mainly to US dollar, what allows us to keep very attractive financing conditions. But the clients could bear currency risk so we would like to offer them both variants – either in hard currency or in hryvnia. Besides, we are also working in cooperation

with the top players on Ukrainian insurance market - strong international companies - on the development of insurance services quality to bring Ukraine’s insurance closer to European standards. The EBA focuses its actions on 7 vectors of economic development - Corruption fighting, Court system and Land reform, Currency regulation, VAT refund activation, Customs Procedures simplification and Technical barriers to trade elimination. Which one(s) so you foresee as the most vital and why? We are the members of the European Business Association – organisation is very strong and effective in lobbying. We are very proud to be a member of the EBA, we try to participate in its work as much as possible and provide input into EBA’s activities. And it really pays off! We tried to launch some lobbying initiatives by ourselves, but we are too ‘small’ to initiate a ‘big move’. Currently we have an on-going joint initiative with the car dealers and car importers associations on refining regulatory framework for used cars business, because this issue is very problematic What is the most important management lesson you have learned? It is the sales strategies. We have a strong system of cooperation with our distribution partners. Our products are not sold by ourselves; they are sold through a network of Volkswagen, Audi, Seat and Porsche car dealers. Each and every sales manager at a car dealer must at every moment offer a client not only a car but also car financing scheme. It is our goal to make it as easy as possible for those people to sell our products. The next tool is marketing, of course. Credit is well-known and frequently used in Ukraine, while a lot of people and local companies know nothing about leasing financing tool, that’s why we are constantly running image campaigns, often in a funny way, to bring leasing into the market & explain it to people. It pays off, as the leasing share on the car market is only 3%, and our leasing share is 10%. So, it really works out, but you should never stop communicating. LVIV TODAY | May 2013

EBA EVENTS April was rich in ad-hoc meetings and various master classes. EBA members had a chance to discuss following topics: Business Effectiveness and Attracting Finance were discussed at the adhoc meeting with the company “Ernst&Young” 17th of April, 2013. Participants of the meeting got acquainted with Lviv Region Investment Portal presented by Oleg Kakhnovets, Director of the Lviv Regional Investments and Development Center. Vasyl Danylyak, Galnaftogaz PJSC, Vice President, CFO shared his experience how to attract finance in a crisis economy using the example of Galnaftogaz PJSC. Maxim Shkurenko, Manager, Advisory Services, Ernst & Young spoke about the strategy of the company how it is important in order to reach a success in business and how to know is it correct or not. “Without the professional and loyal staff business will not be effective” – this message was given by Olga Gorbanovska, Partner, Human Capital, Ernst & Young. She made a several statements how to motivate the staff and how to do this effectively. The participants had an opportunity to address questions to the speakers during coffee break and little buffet at the end of the Ad-hoc meeting. 19th of April EBA ad-hoc meeting with PricewaterhouseCoopers was held at EBA office in Lviv. During this meeting the participants heard about the taxation of individuals (Ukrainian and foreign nationals) issues and the peculiarities of annual tax return submission. Speaker of the meeting was Julia Kadibash, Senior Manager with PwC Tax and Legal Services. The speaker overviewed the current system of individual taxation in Ukraine. Also she talked about taxation of foreign nationals (expatriates) in Ukraine. In addition, Julia Kadibash mentioned the taxation of Ukrainian nationals assigned to work abroad (permanently\on a business trip) and peculiarities of annual tax return submission for the year 2012. The meeting ends by the ordinary questions-answer session. Master-class from Oleksiy Vynogradov on the topic “Strategic Marketing Planning” took place on Wednesday, 03 April 2013, 18:00. The event speaker, Mr. Oleksiy Vynogradov, Ph.D., VP Marketing, Associate at Business School MIM-Kyiv, partner of the consulting group “Advanter Group”, Program Director PMD “Marketing” and PMD «Mini MBA” started with what the owner needs to know under the word “marketing” and what is the role of marketing in the formation of gross profit. The speaker also spoke on the organization of the planning process, “funnel sales” in marketing and possible sources to increase sales. During the master-class were emphasized typical mistakes of the marketing strategic plan, which were analysed, using practical cases.

n this issue of Lviv Today Markian Malskyy, Partner of Arzinger law firm, Head of West Ukrainian Branch Office, attorney-at-law, PhD, is answering the following question: “I am a Polish citizen, working currently in Ukraine. I have an employment permit. I wonder if I am eligible for obtaining retirement payment from Ukraine, when I return to Poland”. Normally the issues of granting social security benefits to foreigners working abroad are regulated by bilateral agreements between the states. Under general rule the retirement payment is paid by the Pension Fund in case the individual meets qualification criteria: 35 years of work experience for men and 30 – for women, age of 60 for men and women. In case these criteria are met, the retirement payments are calculated based on the formula allowing for higher retirement payment. However, the retirement payment can also be paid, if the person has smaller work experience than 35/30 years, then the retirement payment is calculated proportionally to the actual work experience. In any case, the minimum work experience for the person to be eligible for retirement payment is 15 years. It should be taken into consideration that there was recently signed Agreement on social security between Poland and Ukraine (18.05.2012). The Agreement was ratified already by Poland (10.10.2012), however it was not yet ratified in Ukraine. Apparently it will also be ratified soon in Ukraine. According to this Agreement Polish citizen, temporarily residing and working in Ukraine, is entitled to retirement payment to be paid by Pension Fund of Ukraine. The social security contributions will not be transferred to Poland, however the retirement payment will be paid directly by Pension Fund of Ukraine to Polish individual, who returned to Poland. The Agreement foresees rules of determination of the amount of retirement payment. Under general rule the individual is entitled to the retirement payment, calculated with consideration of proportion of working period in Ukraine to total working period in both countries.

EBA Women’s Club On May, 30, 2012 at the backerei café “Videnski Bulochky” EBA Women’s Club hold a traditional Master Class on Easter Eggs Painting. Moreover, this year we decided to invite a guest to share with us the secrets of baking Easter Bread (Paska), some Easter traditions and where do they come from. Our guest was sister Klymentia – a nun from the Svyatopreobrazhenskyy monastery. Sister Klementiya spoke on the history and types of Easter bread, regional characteristics of Easter bread baking and of course shared with us her own Easter Bread recipe. The event lasted in a very interesting and pleasant atmosphere, and of course, the results of the masterclass were beautifully painted Easter Eggs.

EBA and InterNations Get Together EBA and InterNations meeting took place on Wednesday, April 24, 2012 at the Terrazza, a rooftop restaurant at the St. Feder Hotel. Event gathered around 50 participants of EBA and InterNations community for networking evening. The guest of the night was Mr. Serhiy Kiral, Head of the Department of Foreign Economic Relations and Investments of the Lviv City Council. Mr. Kiral told his success story and also spoke on the activities and projects Department of Foreign Economic Relations and Investments work on. To make the event even more interesting, participants had a possibility to try their luck at the business card lottery and win prizes form the EBA. HR and Management Committee Joint EBA HR and Management Committee was held at the EBA office in Lviv, 4th of April, 2013. The topic Constructive Feedback was discussed at the meeting, presented by Invited guest speaker Andriy Kucherenko. He worked as MBA programs teacher in Kyiv Mohyla Business School, Lviv Institute of Management, HR-consultant and business coach at Galnaftogaz Company and others. Andriy Kucherenko has extensive experience in business training and workshops: “Negotiating”, “Teambuilding and teamwork”, “Effective communication”, “Human Resource Management for HR”, “Human resources for managers”, “Management skills”, “Creativity in Business”, “Constructive Feedback”, “Procrastination”, “Beer game” and others. Andriy Kucherenko made his speech as an interactive communication with the participants of the meeting. During the speech Mr. Kucherenko clearly, based on illustrative examples, described what is “feedback”, its origin and its usage. Mr. Kucherenko brought examples of theoretical formulations of the concept of “feedback” and told in details about “feedback” in interpersonal communications. Special attention was paid to the difference between “feeddback” and criticism. Also, invited guest told how to give and receive “feedback”. It was also considered the concept of “feeddback”, as a tool for management and motivation. The meeting was followed by the general discussion and questions to the presenter.

Anatoliy Tymoshchuk: An Interview with “The Captain” the line-up of the team and strategy of the game were not changed significantly, so we cannot say that we had to create a new line of players. Actually there is big difference between preparations for the game within a national team and for club matches as there is not enough time for players to work together on all that requires lots of attention and devotion. So we use any opportunity to do so.

With Bayern, Tymoshchuk has already won the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and the DFBSupercup titles. He is also a UEFA Champions League Runner-up in 2010, and 2012. Tymoshchuk is currently the captain of Ukraine’s national football team. He is also

During the winter, camp training of the national team is quite short, how difficult is it to tune oneself for the game, for that team in just one day? The schedule of the national team usually plans one or two friendly games. We got ourselves into that situation last year, where we had only one coaching staff and this year things have been changed and the team got a new coach and accordingly a completely new coaching staff. We have put in the effort to use camp training in Spain as well as at the friendly game with Norway to get acquainted and play following the requirements of the new coaching staff. Generally speaking,

National teams from Eastern Europe – Poland, Montenegro, Moldova- consist of players, who are playing for foreign clubs. Is it some kind of proof that these countries have high level football schools? In your opinion, why are there so few Ukrainian players in Western European football clubs? It all depends on the conditions of football development within the country. For example, national teams of Germany or Italy almost completely consist of players of Bundesliga and Seria A. That’s sort of a historical outcome and if we look at the results we’ll see that players of these teams show excellent skills. On the other hand, there is the national team of Brazil, almost all of their players are playing at European clubs and even participate in friendly matches in European countries. In Ukraine, the majority of football clubs are financially stronger in comparison to clubs of Poland, Montenegro or Moldova and that is why it is difficult to invite players to other clubs as there will be financial responsibilities implemented and of course the player himself should show specific skills and be interested in this type of opportunity. I think that in Ukraine there are many football players who could play in European clubs and this would even give players an extra boost to develop their skills more. What changes took place in the game strategy of the national team after participating in EURO 2012? Which team feels more comfortable for you – the EURO 2012 team or the team at present? Of course, participation in such a high level tournament definitely cannot just go unnoticeably. It is very important that such tournament took place in our country, as hopefully this will give a boost to football development in Ukraine. I think participation in the European championships give many players not only useful experience but also additional confidence, progress and allows for them to upgrade skills. Ukraine’s national team jersey, each match has been very special for me. Each time there has been a very pleasant atmosphere within the team and all newcomers feel comfortable in giving it their all for the good of the team. Within the qualifications for the World 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, Ukraine’s national team will play against Montenegro, SanMarino, England and Poland. Which team

of these three in your opinion is the top challenger for Ukraine’s team? For now, we are in such a situation that each game as well all the scores we get, are very important notwithstanding the name of the opponent team. Our team is now catching up as we had lost some important points at the very beginning, but during the last few spring games we have shortened our distance to the first two places. Right now there are two teams ahead of ours and that means we cannot afford the luxury of loosing any more points. The upcoming game with Montenegro is extremely important, as the result will determine our chances for future matches. Not taking into consideration LVIV TODAY | May 2013

the fact, that this game will not be at home, I hope its fans will still support the team, just as it was during the last matches. This autumn Ukraine’s national team will play three home matches within the qualification for the World 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. What do you thing of the idea of holding one of those matches- let’s say Ukraine vs Poland in Lviv? I am very supportive of the idea that our na-

tional team should play matches in different cities of Ukraine as that will give fans from all over the country the possibility to come to the stadium and show support for the players. I have always enjoyed playing in Lviv, as the city has a special football atmosphere and is very supportive of their local and national teams. So if the decision to hold a match in Lviv is accepted, I will be the first one who will be happy, as all players of the team will be pleased to play in this city. In what way do you see the development of your career as a footballer for the nearest future? During our last match, Bayern won the

team championship, which is truly an historical achievement, as we have never previously in the history of Bundesliga won this championship. We have also continued to compete in the German Cup championship and Champions League. Personally for me, winning the Champion League would be the best and the most prestigious achievement. Until July 1st 2013, I am a player for FC “Bavaria” so all my thoughts are concerning games for that team in this season. As far as

the next season is concerned, I really haven’t made any decisions yet, so I don’t have an answer. For the present time which team(s) do you consider as being the best within the Champions League? Bavaria and Barcelona. If we were to look back three or four years, we would see that these clubs have shown very solid results. During the last three years we (Bavaria) has ended up twice at the finals of the world’s most important clubs championship. If we remember the sequence of events during those matches, I can only say that it was a long time ago when I saw such luck in football.

SPEEDWAY The 2013 Individual Speedway European Championship started on April 20th 2013, with the first Semi-final held in Chervonograd. The event brought together 18 athletes from 14 countries including Russia, Italy, Belgium, Romania, Germany, Denmark, Croatia, Czech Republic, UK, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Latvia and Ukraine. The winner of the Semi-final was Danish rider Leon Madsen, in front of Russian Roman Povazhny and Latvian Maxims Bogdanovs. Ukraine was represented by Andriy Karpov, Andriy Kobrin and Oleksandr Loktayev, and all three will try their best at the 2nd Semi-final of the Individual Speedway European Championship in Debrecen (Hungary).

Ukraine’s Futsal Championship Cup was presented in Lviv, which for the third time in a row was bestowed upon the local team “Energia”. Players who came back from Lugansk were festively greeted with champagne by team’s fans. In a very dramatic match against “LTK” Lviv’s team “Energia” not only won, but also became Ukraine’s Champion. “We won Ukraine’s Futsal Cup 2013 and this is one of the most remarkable sports trophies of my career. Of course, I have won Championships in previous years however this victory is extra special, as the team had to fight against many obstacles to remain strong.” – said Maksym Pavlenko, coach of the team “Energia”. In total Lviv’s “Energia” has won Ukraine’s Futsal Championship Cup four times and due to this fact, Ukraine’s Futsal Federation decided to leave this particular trophy with the team forever.

Граючий тренер “Енергії” Максим Павленко привітав уболівальників команди з цим успіхом. «Ми здобули Кубок України 2013 року. Це один із найпам’ятніших трофеїв у моїй кар’єрі. У Кубку перемагав і раніше, але ця звитяга особлива через те, що ми на шляху до неї здолали безліч перешкод і показали характер» – сказав він. Всього львів’яни завойовували кубок чотири рази. Виконком федерації міні-футболу України вирішив залишити клубу «Енергія» Кубок на довічне зберігання.

After finishing the semifinal play-off series against BC “Budivelnik” (Kyiv) with a 0-4 score, BC “Polytechnyka-Halychyna” will play for a bronze medal in the Super League Championship. In the next game the Lviv team will play against BC “Ferro-ZNTU” (Zaporizhzhya). This season, starting from the quarterfinals, all teams will play until 4 victories. First two matches for “Polytechnyka-Halychyna” will take place in Zaporizhzhya, while home games will take place on 16.05 and 18.05. “We have finished the series and I wouldn’t say that we are disappointed, considering that BC “Budivelnik” was the championship favorite from the very beginning. Now our players need some rest to get ready to fight for third place. And it doesn’t matter if we will be able to get the bronze medal or not, as we already have played a good game this season. I am very grateful to all the fans, thanks a lot for your huge support. We are ready to fight, as we did throughout the season.” – said Zhelko Lukaich, head coach of “Polytechnyka-Halychyna”. RUGBY The XI National “Universiade” on Rugby-7 took place in Lviv. The event took place at the unique rugby Stadium “Unist”, where 12 male and 8 female teams of students competed in this passionate sport. Among the participants were teams from Lviv, Odessa, Kyiv, Ternopil, Dnipropetrovsk, Khmelnitsky, Crimea and Transcarpathian region. According to the results of the competitions line-ups for the men’s and women’s national teams will be formed, which will represent our country at the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan from July 6–17, 2013.

РЕГБІ У Львові відбулась XI національна Універсіада з регбі-7. Змагання пройшли на спеціалізованому стадіоні “Юність”, де 12 чоловічих і 8 жіночих студентських команд змагалися в цій пристрасній грі. Серед учасників турніру були команди зі Львова, Одеси, Києва, Тернополя, Дніпропетровська, Хмельницького, Криму та Закарпаття. За результатами змагань будуть сформовані склади чоловічої та жіночої національних збірних, які представлятимуть нашу країну на 27-й літній Універсіаді в Казані 6–17 липня 2013 року.

WATER POLO AMERICAN FOOTBALL On April 21st 2013, Lviv’s Stadium Progress hosted a match between teams “Levy” (Lviv) and “Monarkhy” (Rivne) within Ukraine’s American First League Football Championship. The local team “Levy” made their debut at the championship and as expected, they were defeated by the more experienced players from Rivne with a score of 10:14. In 2013, the Championship teams are competing in the following divisions: in the Western division matches will be held between ‘Levy” (Lviv), “Monarkhy” (Rivne) and “Lisoruby” (Uzhgorod), while in the Eastern division “Vovky” (Vinnytsa), “Mustangy” (Pavlograd) and “Delfiny” (Mariupol) will compete against one another. The next match for local team “Levy” will be on July 13–14, 2013 against “Lisoruby” (Uzhgorod).

Lviv’s water polo team “Dynamo” will compete for gold medals in the Ukrainian Water Polo Championship due to successful participation in the last tour in Mariupol, where they managed to win over the multi-champion team “Illichevets” with a score of 6:3. Presently, players of “Dynamo” and their head coach Igor Zinkevych, are preparing for the final matches of the Ukrainian Water Polo Championship. The last and sixth tour, which will determine the gold medal winner will take place in Lviv from May 25–27, 2013 and will feature matches between “Dynamo” (Lviv) and “Illichevets” (Mariupol).
