ENGLISH-LANGUAGE CONTENT ON UKRAINE IS IN HIGH-DEMAND! THE SUCCESS OF WESTERN UKRAINE’S MOST SUCCESSFUL ENGLISH-LANGUAGE MEDIA OUTLET PROVES THAT THERE IS AN AUDIENCE FOR SUCH CONTENT AND AN APPETITE FOR MORE.

s a Lviv Today reader, you’re likely aware of the recent government decision to shutter the country’s sole English-language television channel, UATV. It was a surprising move, to say the least, considering the channel was designed to specifically counter Russian disinformation from successful English-language Russian stations like RT. The government plans to retool UATV to produce Russian-language content specifically aimed at Ukrainian populations in the occupied territories of Donbas and Crimea. In other words, it has prioritised getting its message to its own population over that of foreign populations. Considering the success of RT in getting the Russian message to foreign audiences, the decision to oust Ukraine’s platform to counter is certainly curious. DOES UKRAINE NEED AN ENGLISH-LANGUAGE CHANNEL?

There was a time when many Americans knew little more about Ukraine than borshch, vodka, and Easter eggs. Not anymore. After capturing the hearts and minds of a segment of the population through two successful revolutions, President Zelenskyy’s now-infamous July phone call with US President Trump has put the topic of Ukraine on the lips of virtually every American. This is a twoedged sword. On the one hand, you have some American politicians like Sen. John Kennedy parroting Russian narratives on Ukraine. On the other, you have a voracious appetite for content about

Ukraine. While UATV was never going to compete with the mammoth $300+ million USD yearly budget of RT, it’s an absolutely wasted opportunity for the Ukrainian government to undercut its English-language programming precisely when interest in the country is at an all-time high. More than that, providing reliable English-language news to European partners that speak far more English than Russian is not only among the simpler ways to counter Russian narratives, but also the responsibility of a EU-bound nation. DOES UKRAINE NEED A RUSSIAN-LANGUAGE CHANNEL? It wouldn’t be fair to say that the government has completely abandoned its efforts to combat disinformation, even if dropping its English-language channel is head-scratching. There is nothing wrong with creating Russian-language programming aimed at delivering the Urkainian message to populations in Crimea and Donbas. In fact, why stop there? Programming could be aimed at Russian-speaking populations abroad – delivering factbased information to counter Russian (or other) disinformation. There are plenty of people in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and other former Soviet states that would be very interested in hearing these types of stories. The desire to re-tool UATV to fit this mandate is understandable; but why at the cost of its English-language programming?

WHY CAN’T WE HAVE BOTH? This isn’t an either-or proposition. It’s not like one must exist without the other. In fact, UATV was already providing programming in multiple languages, so the infrastructure is there. The decision to aim programming at Russian-speaking populations only reinforces the message that the government continues to believe that countering disinformation is a priority. So, why drop the English-language content? Especially at such an opportune time! For 13 years, Lviv Today has shown just how much of an appetite there is for English-language content on Ukraine. Perhaps it’s best for the government to re-think its decision to drop its English-lanuage programming and work to combat disinformation in both the Russian and English formats.

Lviv’s Glass Museum, together with the Ningbo Glass Museum in China, is encouraging young Leopolitans to take part in the Andriy Bokotey Award contest for glass artists. Initially founded by the Wuxi ‘Greenwave’ Art Gallery in China, the contest is now in its third year. The first prize winner will take part in the Ningbo International Glass Art conference in China and will have their travel, room and board covered. Second and third prize winners will receive 20,000 and 10,000 UAH, respectively. All three winner’s works will be exhibited at the Ningbo Glass Museum. Andrey Bokotey is a graduate of the ceramics department at the Lviv National Academy of Arts. He chaired the Art Glass Department from 1994-96, was a professor and vice-rector from 1996-00, and the Academy’s rector from 2000-15. After initiating numerous International Blown Glass Symposiums in Lviv, he founded the city’s spectacular Glass Museum. A National Artist of Ukraine since 2007 and a member of the National Academy of Arts since 2001, his works have been exhibited in galleries around the world. Entries by Ukrainian artists up to 35 years are welcome to enter the competition until 1 March. From 11 March – 15 April, Lviv’s lovely Glass Museum will host an exhibition of the best entries. Львівський музей скла разом з Музеєм скла м. Нінбо в Китаї запрошують молодих львівських майстрів до участі у конкурсі ім. Андрія Бокотея. Заснований Художньою галереєю Greenwave м. Усі в Китаї, конкурс проводиться вже третій рік. Перший переможець візьме участь у міжнародній конференції мистецтва скла в китайському місті Нінбо з оплатою проїзду, проживання та харчування. Другий та третій переможці отримають відповідно 20 000 та 10 000 грн. Роботи усіх трьох переможців будуть виставлені в Музеї скла в м. Нінбо. Андрій Бокотей – випускник кафедри кераміки Львівської національної академії мистецтв. Він очолював кафедру художнього скла у 1994–96 рр., був професором і проректором у 1996–2000 рр. та ректором Академії у 2000– 2015. А. Бокотей був ініціатором численних симпозіумів з гутного скла у Львові та заснував оригінальний міський музей скла. Він є членом Національної академії мистецтв з 2001 року та Народним художником України з 2007 року, а його твори експонувались у галереях цілого світу. MESMERISING DAKHABRAKHA 24 February at 19.00 at the Lviv Opera & Ballet Theatre (28 Svobody Ave.) Lviv’s spectacular Opera & Ballet Theatre will host the one-of-a-kind DakhaBrakha on 24 February. It’s impossible not to get swept up in the “ethno chaos” of DakhaBrakha’s giddy creativity and mesmerising performances. Built on a foundation of rural Ukrainian folk music, their transnational sound unites traditional instruments from India, Arabia, Africa, Australia, and Ukraine with energetic grooves that cover everything from hip hop and 70s soul to West African rhythms and the 20th Century minimalism of Steve Reich and Philip Glass. WONDERFUL CARMEN SUITE 10 March at 19.00 at the Lviv Opera & Ballet Theatre (28 Svobody Ave.) Lviv’s famed Opera & Ballet Theatre will host the wonderful Carmen Suite ballet on 10 March. Carmen Suite is a one-act play created by Cuban choreographer Alberto Alonso in 1967. The music was written by Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin, who took it from Georges Bizet’s opera Carmen and arranged Bizet’s melodies with a variety of fresh instrumental colours (including the frequent use of percussion) set to new rhythyms and a good deal of sly wit. The ballet is Shchedrin’s best-known work and is popular around the globe. THE BEATLES TRIBUTE – LIVERPOOL LEGENDS 3 March at 20.00 at the Lviv Opera & Ballet Theatre (28 Svobody Ave.) Lviv’s lovely Opera & Ballet Theatre is set to turn into ‘Beatlemania’ on 3 March when the wonderful Liverpool Legends are in town. A Beatles Tribute Band, the Liverpool Legends are four talented musicians and actors handpicked by Louise Harrison, the sister of Beatles legend George Harrison. That makes the group the only one in the world with a direct link to the original Fab Four! In fact, the group – along with Louise – was nominated for a Grammy in 2012 for their work on ‘Fab Fan Memories – a Beatles Bond’. The group received national attention in 2006 after recreating the Beatles famed 1966 concert at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. Since then, they have traveled the world playing in historic venues like Carnegie Hall and the Cavern Club in Liverpool. They have recorded at the iconic Abbey Road Studios in London and performed with Denny Laine (co-founder of Wings with Paul McCartney), Pete Best (the Beatles original drummer), and the Boston Pops. LVIV'S HISTORY ТА М, ДЕ Ш О КОЛ А Д – ШУК А Й ТЕ Ж І Н К У Климентина Авдикович вважається першою в Україні жінкоюпідприємцем 20 століття. Вона була власницею єдиної української шоколадної фабрики "Фортуна Нова", яка славилась своїми кондитерськими виробами по всій Австро-Угорській імперії. "Не йди ніколи до панночки без цукерків "Фортуни нової", якщо не хочеш собі її втратити" – так звучала одна з десяти заповідей компанії. Асортимент солодощів був досить вражаючим – печиво, шоколад, фруктове желе, морозиво, навіть торти! А обгортки були барвистими й вишуканими – випускалась спеціальна серія шоколадних цукерок "Солодка історія України" – на яких були представлені відомі українські політичні діячі, від Володимира Великого до гетьмана Павла Скоропадського. Якісні та привабливі малюнки на обгортках створювали відомі українські художники, зокрема, Олекса Новаківський та Леопольд Левицький. За найвищу якість відповідала сама Климентина Авдикович, якій довелось розпочати власну справу, щоб забезпечити своїх дітей після смерті чоловіка. Почавши з невеликої цукерні в Перемишлі вона переїхала до Львова 1924 року, маючи, сучасною мовою, бізнес-план. Саме Андрей Шептицький, митрополит Української греко-католицької церкви, повірив у неї і забезпечив їй значну фінансову підтримку та ділянку під фабрику, яка була обладнана найкращим німецьким обладнанням і мала змогу щодня виготовляти п’ять тонн солодощів. Солодощам ласували не тільки львів’яни – їх відправляли до Відня та у США! Виробництво було припинене під час другої світової війни, а Климентина Авдикович переїхала до Відня. Радянська влада націоналізувала її фабрику, з якої виросла кондитерська фірма "Світоч", яка й сьогодні залишається популярною в Україні.

Ще одна жінка, яка відіграла вирішальну роль в економічному розвитку регіону – це Олена Левицька, яка народилась в Ожидові 1863 року в сім'ї священнослужителя і після закінчення школи розпочала свою кар'єру продавчині в Стрию. Не задоволена роботою, вона вирушила до Варшави, де працювала на фабриці пасти для взуття. Через деякий час вона вивчила всі процеси виробництва та збуту й переїхала до Львова, щоб стати торговим агентом. У 1906 році вона заснувала фабрику хімічної продукції "Зоря", яка виготовляла ваксу "Елєгант", популярну в той час у Галичині та в цілій Польщі. Фабрика також випускала пасту для підлоги, лаки 56 кольорів, вазелін та синьку для білизни. Її фабрику було частково зруйновано в 1918-22 роках, але її відновили і вона продовжувала виробництво під керівництвом її брата Ореста. Фабрика "Зоря" виросла у серйозне промислове підприємство і на 1933 рік мала монополію на галицькому ринку. Спочатку на ній працювали шестеро робітників, а перед початком Другої світової війни їх було вже 20. Під час війни О. Левицька переїхала до США, де й жила до 1963 року.

У той час львівські жінки-підприємці стикались з низкою труднощів, включаючи економічну кризу та інфляцію. Проти них були також існуючі в суспільстві стереотипи, оскільки дискримінація за ознакою статі була досить явною, а жіночий бізнес вважався слабким та незахищеним. Ці жінки завдячували своїм успіхом впевненості у власних силах, бажанню працювати на себе, підприємницькій майстерності та інтуїції. В той час, як чоловіки роками правили галицьким діловим світом, завдяки таким жінкам, як Климентина Авдикович та Олена Левицька, все більше галицьких жінок відважувались долати труднощі долі підприємця та створити собі ім’я. Galicia has a long history of successful women entrepreneurs, so in honour of International Women’s Day, let’s talk about the Leopolitan business environment at the beginning of the 20th Century. You can’t talk about women entrepreneurs from the early 20th Century

without talking about Klymentyna Avdykovych and Olena Levytska. Thanks to their pioneering activities, professionalism, and foreign experience, they set up several enterprises in different industries – from food to chemicals, including factories like Fortuna Nova and Zoria.

LVIV'S HISTORY BE HI ND E VE RY G R E AT CH O C OL ATE C O M PA NY IS A L A DY (AT LE AST, LV I V ’ S SV ITO C H ) Avdykovych is considered Ukraine’s first female entrepreneur of the 20th Century. She owned Fortuna Nova, the first chocolate factory that was famed for its confectionary products across the Austro-Hungarian Empire. “Never visit your lady without Fortuna Nova sweets – you don’t want to get the ‘cold shoulder’” was one of the company’s famous early advertisements. The assortment of sweets was quite impressive – biscuits, chocolates, fruit jello, ice cream, cakes, and more! Even the wrapping was colourful and elegant and featured a special series of ‘Sweet History of Ukraine’ chocolates that showcased famous Ukrainian political figures, from Volodomyr the Great to Hetman Pavlo Skoropadskyi. The high-quality and attractive pictures on the wrappers were designed by famous Ukrainian artists, including Oleksa Novakivskyi and Leopold Levitskyi. The top-notch quality was ensured by Avdykovych herself, who was forced into starting her own business to provide for her children after the death of her husband. After starting with a small confectionary in Przemysl, she relocated to Lviv in 1924 with a business plan. It was Andrey Sheptytsky, the Metropolitan Archibishop of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, that believed in her and provided her with considerable financial support and the space for the factory. The factory was equipped with the finest German equipment and was able to produce five tonnes of sweets daily. Not only did Leopolitans treat their sweet teeth, but the goodies were sent as far away as Vienna and the USA! Avdykovych was forced to stop production during WWII and eventually ended up moving to Vienna. The Soviets nationalised her business and it became the Svitoch confectionary company, which remains popular in Ukraine today!

SHOE PO LISH WAS T H IS L A DY ’ S B E ST F RI E ND Another woman who played a crucial role in the economic development of the region was Olena Levytska. Born in Ozhydiv in 1863 to the family of a clergyman, she began her career as a saleswoman in Stryi after finishing school. Not satisfied with the work, she headed to Warsaw where she started working in a shoe polish factory. After some time, she learned the production and marketing processes and moved to Lviv to become a sales agent. She founded the Zoria chemical goods factory in 1906, which produced the ‘Elegant’ shoe polish that was popular across Galicia and Poland at the time. The company also produced wax floor polish, 56 colours of laquers, petroleum jelly, and blue liquid for linen. Her factory was partially ruined in 1918-22, but was restored in 1922 and continued production under the guidance of her brother Orest. The Zoria factory became a serious industrial enterprise and by 1933 had a monopoly on the Galician market, originally employing six employees, but moving to a staff of 20 before WWII. Levytska moved to the USA during WWII and lived there till her death in 1963.

LE A DI NG T H E WAY, IN SP I R I N G TO DAY It is worth remembering the obstacles these women overcame to succeed in their business careers. At the time, Leopolitan women entrepreneurs faced a number of difficulties, including economic crisis and inflation. They also had to deal with a number of stereotypes, as gender-based discrimination was quite explicit and women’s businesses were considered weak and insecure. The women owe their success to their self-confidence, desire to work for themselves, and their entrepreneurial skill and intuition. While men ruled the Galician business world for years, thanks to ladies like Klymentyna Avdykovych and Olena Levytska, more and more Galician women were inspired to overcome the hardships of the entrepreneurial journey and make a name for themselves. Nothing is more relaxing then spending the day at the spa. Aromatherapy, hydrotherapy, mani’s and pedi’s, old fashioned massages, and more – there’s sure to be a program to spoil your girl. If you play your cards right, you might even be able to swing a couples massage…

CHOCOLATE & NUTELLA NALYSNYKY RECIPE What you need: 2 large eggs, ¾ cup all purpose flour, 1 tablespoon sugar, ½ cup milk, ¼ cup water, 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract, pinch of sea salt, butter for melting, 1 jar Nutella spread, dark chocolate. What to do: (1) Whisk eggs and add flour, sugar, milk, water, vanilla, and salt until no lumps remain; (2) Melt butter in pan and add enough batter to cover the bottom (~½ cup) – spread evenly; (3) Heat for ~30 seconds and carefully flip; (4) Heat for another ~30 seconds then let cool; (5) Spread Nutella generously, fold into a triangle, and add melted chocolate. Enjoy!

COSSACK’S DERUNY RECIPE What you need: 150 g salo (lard), 5 potatoes, 1 onion, 1 carrot, 2 eggs, ½ tablespoon flour, 3 tablespoons vegetable oil, salt and pepper. What to do: (1) Cut the salo into thin strips; (2) Peel vegetables and then grate; (3) Toss salo and vegetables into a bowl, add eggs, salt and pepper, and flour and mix thoroughly; (4) Heat vegetable oil in a pan, spread dough with a spoon, and fry 3–4 minutes on each side for a golden crust.

ДОНЕР КЕБАБ ІСТОРІЯ І СУЧАСНІСТЬ СТАРОДАВНЯ КУЛІНАРНА ТРАДИЦІЯ Перша письмова згадка про страву кебаб датується 1377 роком, і тепер важко визначити, чи є його походження саме турецьким, семітським чи іранським. Деякі кажуть, що шишкебаб походить з Туреччини, де цей термін означає "м'ясо на шампурі". Страва, як кажуть, припала до смаку турецьким солдатам під час їх вторгнення в Анатолію. Вони нібито використовувати свої мечі для приготування шашликів на відкритому вогні. Така ж страва була відома грекам візантійської епохи. В Аравії смажене м’ясо – це традиційне частування, де шматочки маринованої баранини нанизуються на металевий шампур і подаються гарячими з приправами. Хоча смаження м'яса на горизонтальних шпичках має давню історію, техніка смаження вертикальної стопки пластів м'яса та відрізання скибочок вперше з'явилась в Османській імперії XIX століття (сучасна Туреччина) під назвою донер кебаб. Хоча слово кебаб вживається в англійській мові щонайменше з кінця 17 століття, донер кебаб набув популярності з середини 20 століття чи навіть пізніше. Назва страви походить від турецького слова dönmek ("обертати" або "повертати"), тому донер кебаб

буквально можна перекласти як "смажити, обертаючи". І грецький "gyros", і "shawarma" походять від кебаба. А тепер перейдімо від кулінарної історії до сучасності та подивимось, що в нас у Львові є на цю тему.

ДОНЕР КЕБАБ І ШАВЕРМА Донер кебаб готують з тонко нарізаного пластами маринованого яловичого м’яса, нанизаного на вертикальний шампур, яке смажиться з одного боку і тому повинне постійно обертатись. Обсмажений край обрізають довгим гострим ножем і загортають в тоненький круглий, теж обсмажений тонкий лаваш, додаючи листя салату або нашинковані свіжі овочі і поливаючи смачним соусом. Львів’яни, споживаючи таку страву просто на вулиці, можуть на хвилинку уявити себе в Берліні! Шаверма схожа на донер кебаб методом приготування, але часто готується з курятини або баранини. Основна відмінність полягає в тому, що зазвичай м'ясо маринується довше і має різний асортимент спецій – від куркуми та перцевої олії до сушеного лайма, лаврового листа та кориці. Традиційні додатки також відрізняються від донер кебаба і включають тахіні, табуле, підсмажену дрібно нарізану ріпчасту цибулю та фіолетову капусту, і це все разом загортають у пухкий, теплий тонкий лаваш.

НАЙМОДНІШІ ТЕНДЕНЦІЇ Може виникнути питання – якщо ця страва всесвітньо відома, чому її так довго не було у нас? Ті, хто любить харчуватись з вуличних яток і часто відвідували єгипетські чи турецькі ресторани, вже давно знали про ці страви східного Середземномор'я – багато приправлені та присмажені – пікантні та соковиті. Але сьогодні, коли такі кіоски (до речі, теж турецьке слово) можна зустріти на вулицях Львова і багатьох міст України, та й фестивалі вуличної їжі доклались до популярності цих страв, вони стали найшвидшими фаст-фудом у місті. Навіть високопоставлені особи часом не цураються простонародної їжі, роблячи собі селфі та заявляючи, що це допомагає їм не "забронзовіти" й стати ближче до народу. Торік у Львові з'явилось декілька нових мереж, які сприяли ренесансу донер кебаба. Увесь асортимент приправ видно крізь вікно, що дозволяє клієнтам вибирати начинки, соуси чи салат на власний смак. Донер кебаб можна їсти на сніданок, обід чи просто перекусити пізно увечері – головне, щоб вам смакувало. Якщо у вас є лише десять хвилин на обід, то це ідеальний вибір для вас. THE OLD FOOD THAT'S TRENDY AGAIN THE ‘K EBA B’ IS ONE OF HISTORY ’S FINEST IN V ENTIONS A ND IT ’S COME BACK I N T O S T Y L E A S O N E O F T H E W O R L D ’ S T R E N D I E S T C U L I N A R Y C R E AT I O N S . THE ANCIENT DELICACY First discovered in 1377 as a Turkish archrival of the Kyssa-i Yusuf, it is difficult to determine whether its origin is precisely Turkish, Semitic, or Iranian. Some say the shish kebab comes from Turkey, where the term means ‘skewers’. The delicacy was said to have been enjoyed by Turkish soldiers during their invasion of Anatolia. They would use their swords to cook the kebabs in open fire. Byzantine-era Greeks were also known for their affinity for shish kebabs. In Arabia, grilled meet or shish kebab is a traditional treat, where pieces of marinated lamb are attached to a metal skewer and served hot and grilled, garnished with rich spices. While the roasting of meat on horizontal spits has an ancient history, the technique of grilling a vertical stack of meat and cutting off slices first appeared in the 19th Century Ottoman Empire (modern Turkey) in the form of the döner kebab. While kebab has been used in English since at least the late 17th Century, döner kebab is as recent as the mid-20th Century or later. Döner comes from the Turkish word dönmek (‘to turn’ or ‘to rotate’), so döner kebab literally translates to ‘rotating roast’. Particularly in British English, a döner kebab sandwich may be referred to simply as ‘a kebab’. Both the Greek ‘gyros’ and ‘shawarma’ are derived from

kebab. With the treat’s culinary history out of the way, let’s look at two rising meat-centric stars that are catching fire in Lviv – the Döner kebab and Shawarma.

DÖNER KEBAB VS. SHAWARMA The Döner kebab is seasoned meat cooked on a vertical spit, then sliced thinly and wrapped in grilled bread, topped with salad or fresh vegetables, and slathered in a delicious garlicky sauce. That’s the version that’s making waves in Lviv right now – döner kebab by way of Berlin street-food tradition! Shawarma, which is similar to döner, features a meat cone – often chicken or lamb – grilled on a spit. The main difference is that it is usually marinated longer and has a different range of spices, from turmeric and allspice to dried lime, bay leaf, and cinnamon. Traditional toppings also differ from the döner and include tahini, tabbouleh, sumac onions, and purple cabbage, which are usually rolled or stuffed into a fluffy, warm pita.

kraine has fought harder than any other country for European integration. Progress has come at an incredibly high price, with efforts to conclude a relatively innocuous Association Agreement with the European Union in 2013 plunging Ukraine into a maelstrom of revolution, economic crisis and undeclared war with Russia that continues to this day. Despite these formidable challenges, a recent study conducted by the New Europe Center has found that European integration trends are taking root across Ukraine. Meanwhile, public support for the country’s European trajectory has consolidated significantly since 2014, despite the trauma and turbulence of the past six years. EMBRACING UKRAINE’S EUROPEAN IDENTITY

Ukraine’s struggle to move closer to the rest of Europe has been ongoing since the 1991 collapse of the Soviet regime, which had imposed artificial barriers while promoting ideas of otherness that contradicted Ukraine’s historic sense of European identity. The country’s post-Soviet European ambitions first hit the international headlines with the 2004 Orange Revolution, a people power uprising sparked by attempts to rig a presidential election in favor of a proKremlin candidate who seemed bent on steering the country away from Europe and towards the increasingly authoritarian Russia of Vladimir Putin. The quest for a European Ukraine entered a new phase in 2013 when Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych backed away from his commitment to sign an Association Agreement with the EU, leading to a fresh round of mass protests known as the Euromaidan Revolution. Millions of Ukrainians from different regions flocked to central Kyiv to join rallies in defense of Ukraine’s European choice. Many carried the flag of the European Union, which came to symbolize the European values of personal dignity and rule of law that drove the protest movement forward. At a time when people throughout the EU itself were questioning the future of the European project, here was a powerful reminder of the principles the European Union represented to those looking in from the outside. Like many Ukrainians, I still have my Euromaidan EU flag at home.

subject. Nor does this support reflect unrealistic faith in the EU’s ability to heal all of Ukraine’s ills. On the contrary, surveys indicate a realistic understanding of Ukraine’s currently slim membership prospects. Moreover, the key Ukrainian request to the European Union during the post-2014 period has not been to offer fast-track membership or financial assistance, but rather to put more pressure on the Ukrainian authorities in order to accelerate reforms. TRADE AND VISA-FREE TRAVEL A number of key dates and numbers stand out in the narrative of Ukraine’s European integration. The signing of the Association Agreement eventually took place in summer 2014, with the terms of the Agreement coming into force in stages over the following few years. For a majority of Ukrainians, the most significant single event was probably the advent of visa-free EU travel in June 2017, bringing to an end decades of visa obstacles and passport apartheid. Meanwhile, the free trade component of the Association Agreement has helped boost the EU share of Ukraine’s overall trade to 42%. Earlier this year, Ukraine became the European Union’s number three foodstuffs supplier. These headlines are only part of the story. In order to get a sense of the grassroots European integration processes taking place across Ukraine, the New Europe Center recently conducted the country’s first nationwide research project covering every single Ukrainian region. In cooperation with the Government Office for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, the project aimed to gauge European integration in an array of different spheres ranging from economy, energy and education to infrastructure, local government and civil society. Data processing took place in a comparative format in order to identify regional trends and gain greater insight into the relative pace of European integration in different parts of the country. The Euromaidan Revolution reached a bloody climax in February 2014 with the massacre of dozens of protesters on Kyiv’s Independence Square followed by the flight of President Yanukovych to Russia. The interim authorities soon made clear their intension to proceed with the EU Association Agreement, but the country’s European integration drive has been overshadowed ever since by ongoing Russian military intervention in Crimea and eastern Ukraine. Moscow has also maintained parallel efforts to convince Ukrainian society that European integration is a foolhardy choice that can only bring impoverishment and war.

Based on 34 indicators in eight different spheres, researchers identified Lviv as Ukraine’s current Euro-integration leader. This result is in line with traditional perceptions of Lviv region as the most typically European part of Ukraine and reflects its favorable location on the EU border. However, the country’s Eurointegration top ten also featured southern Ukraine’s Odesa region, central Ukrainian Vinnytsia, and northeastern Sumy, which shares a border with the Russian federation. Moreover, regions in southern and eastern Ukraine also took leading positions in a number of individual EU integration categories. Mykolaiv region in southern Ukraine displayed the strongest growth in exports to the EU, while eastern Ukraine’s great industrial hubs Kharkiv and Dnipro were among the leaders in terms of the number of enterprises with EU capital. Bordering the line of contact with the Russian-occupied parts of eastern Ukraine, Donetsk and Luhansk regions had the highest number of EBRD and EIB-funded projects.

The political upheavals and military disasters of 2014 have created a backdrop of economic turmoil that has added weight to Russia’s arguments. Nevertheless, public opinion polls conducted over the past six years show that support for EU membership has grown significantly among Ukrainians, with the number in favor now consistently close to or above the 50% mark, representing a landslide majority of those likely to participate in any future referendum on the

These results may strike some readers as surprising. Many local residents in the featured regions would likely share this sense of surprise. Interestingly, one of the few findings that was consistent across all of Ukraine was the practice of local authorities taking credit for EU-funded projects in their regions. Accordingly, these projects are helping to boost the popularity of local authorities but not necessarily leading to improved attitudes towards the European Union.

RUSSIA FAILS TO DERAIL EU INTEGRATION

UKRAINE NEVER CLOSER TO EU NEIGHBORS The post-2014 boom in Ukrainian air travel and the arrival of low-cost airlines on the Ukrainian market has proven one of the biggest single practical drivers of the country’s European integration. Budget carriers now operate from many of Ukraine’s regional capitals, connecting them directly with EU destinations. As well as Kyiv and major cities like Odesa and Lviv, there are also now affordable regular flights to the European Union from the likes of Zaporizhia and Kherson. Dozens of new routes are set to enter service in 2020. A parallel upgrade of Ukraine’s domestic transport infrastructure is further facilitating internal mobility and European connectivity. With road connections gradually improving and dozens of cheap new flight services to European cities, more Ukrainians than ever are able to take advantage of the country’s visa-free EU breakthrough. Some travel for tourism and some seek seasonal work. Others are increasingly engaging in the educational, academic and cultural cooperation offered by European Union programs and individual national initiatives. Analysts at the New Europe Center found that between 2004 and 2013, only 329 Ukrainian students took part in the Erasmus Mundus program (the predecessor of Erasmus+) to study in Europe. During the four years from 2014, this figure skyrocketed to 10,158 Ukrainian students. Overall, this recent attempt to get a sense of Ukraine’s Euro-integration realities produced a picture of varied progress across the country that defies regional stereotypes and, to a degree, runs counter to the geographical logic of the Ukrainian map. We can only hope that the temporarily occupied regions of the country, which currently represent 7% of Ukraine, will eventually become involved in this process. The experience of the past six years demonstrates that the idea of building a European Ukraine is not a mere whim. It is a way to modernize the country while preserving its independence. For those in occupied Donbas and Crimea, such progress is not possible while trapped in Russia’s embrace.

EBA EXPERT TALK INDUSTRY 4.0 Discussion around Industry 4.0 is going for a long time among the businesses in different spheres. Uniting around 70% of manufacturing companies, we decided to learn best practices and to promote new approaches in this sphere. First, we found out who in Ukraine is working on developing Industry 4.0. It appears that Association of Industrial Automation of Ukraine develops the national movement ‘Industry 4.0’ since 2016. So, we asked General director, Alexandre Yurchak to share his thoughts with us:

Right design bureau, or software developers, process engineering or system integrators are in good quality and high number in Ukraine. So, it is just a question how to find them, exactly to your specific need and application. Due to big interest in this field 20th of February Western Ukrainian Office will organize the first meeting in a framework of Manufacturing Committee to go deep into this subject.

EBA WELCOME COFFEE We have a great tradition: Each first Tuesday to invite not only EBA members but also others who are interested in our community to drink with us some coffee and to have a nice chat for a while. Thus, on February 4, 2020, we organized our first EBA Welcome coffee. While tasting the coffee we got the information about the perspectives of the Stock Market of Ukraine in 2020 and shared our experience on the opportunities of ATO veteran’s employment, who are supported now by one of the European Union projects.

These are frequently asked question of our Сlients regarding the labour reforms and we are glad to provide a short overview on the matter.

• New Labour Law which is aimed to replace outdated Labour Code is not adopted yet and exists only as a draft law registered in the Parliament in the end of December, 2019 under No. 2708. Even though, the draft law is very progressive, there is a rather high degree of critics against it, since such provides employers with more flexible procedure of enrollment and dismissal. Thus, we expect to see numerous amendments to the initially proposed draft and yet the employment rules are still governed by the Labour Code of Ukraine (1971). • Amendments to the Labour Code – decrease of the fine. The law on amendment of the Labour Code No. 378-IX dated 12.12.2019 which came into legal force on 02.02.2020 provides significantly lower fines than the previous version of the Code. The list of the most significantly reduced fines includes: • Admission of an employee to work without conclusion of the labour contract and payment of the salary without payment taxes and social contribution – 10 minimum wage (MW) fine for each employee instead of 30 MW; • Non-observance of minimum state guarantees in remuneration – 2 MW for each employee instead of 10 MW; • Non-admission of the State labour inspector to examination – 16 MW instead of 100 MW; • New procedure of inspections of labour violations (conducted by the State Labour Service). Starting from 02.08.2019 state labour inspectors have received the mandate to conduct employers’ inspections again according to the Government Decree No. 823. Former Decree No. 295 was recognized illegitimate by the administrative courts. According to the new procedure state labour inspectors are entitled to conduct inspection without any prior notifications. Moreover, the Government cancelled opportunity of an audit “without actual visit” and “requested” by employer’s audit. Previously, companies could invite Service officers to verify observance of labor rules.

t was no surprise when Olena Starikova was named co-winner of Lviv’s Athlete of the Year by the National Olympic Committee. After all, 2019 saw her capture silver at the world championships, silver at the European Games, and a silver and bronze at the European championships. She also finished third in the World Cup and enters 2020 ranked No. 3 in the world in Women’s Sprint. Starikova could capture Ukraine’s first-ever Olympic cycling gold medal this summer and is a favourite to win Ukraine’s first Olympic cycling medal since Lviv’s Lesya Kalytovska captured bronze at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

“These will be my first Olympics”, Starikova told Lviv Today, “It’s rewarding to represent your country (at such an important event).” The success is nothing nothing new for Starikova. She’s enjoyed cycling since childhood – even more than walking or running. It’s why her mother enrolled her in a sports school. The rest, as they say is history. She competed in her first world championships in 2014 as an 18-year-old, where she finished eighth, and won her first international medals at the 2018 European championships – silvers in the Team Sprint and 500m Time Trial – her specialty. STARIKOVA’S SECRET TO SUCCESS – “USE THE FORCE!” She did it all while training here in Lviv, which has become a powerhouse in international cycling. Lviv is home to some of Ukraine’s top cyclists and best medal hopes for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games, including stars like 2018 European champion Roman Gladysh and 2019 European Games champion Hanna Solovey. The women’s national team is ranked ninth in the world and expectations are high for the entire Ukrainian cycling team, especially Starikova. But if they were supposed to phase her, they don’t. “I don’t feel any pressure”, she explained, “I have a purpose and try not to get distracted”.

In fact, the good-humoured Starikova pokes fun at her past successes. When asked if she has a favourite sporting moment, she answers that she hasn’t yet competed in the Olympics. What does she do with all her international awards? She hangs them on a Darth Vadar doll on her wall. “My medals are guarded by the dark side of the force”, she said with a laugh, before clarifying “That was a joke.” LVIV – UKRAINE’S CYCLING CAPITAL Maybe it’s Lviv’s quaint cobblestone streets or our courtly Austrian-Hungarian architecture, but the Western Ukrainian capital can be an inspirational place to train. Maybe that’s why the city has become Ukraine’s cycling capital.

“My favourite place is near the aiport”, said Starikova. “You can closely observe the planes taking off and landing.” She should know training, as she trains up to six days a week. She divides her training time into three parts: (1) highway riding; (2) time in the gym; and (3) on the track, which is her personal favourite. “Training really differs”, she explains, “It depends on the location and the period of preparation.” Starikova says that cyclists don’t have particularly grueling diets, though there are certain foods you can’t enjoy every day. Doing an activity you love, competing for your country around the world, and training in Ukraine’s most beautiful city makes cycling one of the most attractive sports for young Leopolitan athletes. So, what message does she have for them? “Fear nothing. Don’t be lazy. And stay positive.”

Олена Старікова має добрі шанси завоювати першу золоту медаль для України на олімпіаді в Токіо цього літа. Нагадаємо, що останню олімпійську нагороду для України – бронзу – здобула львів’янка Леся Калитовська на Олімпійських іграх у Пекіні 2008 року. "Це буде моя перша олімпіада" – сказала Старікова нашому кореспонденту, – і це велика честь представляти свою країну на таких важливих змаганнях.

Сама Старікова з гумором ставиться до своїх успіхів. На запитання, чи є у неї улюблений спортивний момент, вона відповідає, що ще не змагалась на Олімпіаді. Що вона робить з усіма своїми нагородами? Вона їх вішає на ляльку Дарта Вейдера в кімнаті на стіні.

Старікова каже, що велосипедисти не мають особливих дієт, хоча від дечого доводиться відмовлятись. Якщо ти займаєшся улюбленою справою, виступаєш за свою країну по всьому світу й тренуєшся у найкрасивішому місті України, велоспорт може стати одним із найпривабливіших видів спорту для молодих львівських спортсменів. Отже, які поради вона має для них?

Half Marathon: Leopolitan Wins double gold Leopolitan long-distance runner Sofia Yaremchuk continues to shake Italian sports world. On January 12th she claimed gold in the Terni Half Marathon, in which she showed spectacular time 1:10:33 to cover 21 097 meters. This result became personal best achivemet for Sofia at the mentioned distance. “I’m very pleased with my performance and with personal record as well” said Sofia. “Three years ago I could only dream for such incredible result. And now it is completely real and I feel that I can run even faster.” Totally in this half marathon even took part over 600 participants from 16 countries. As the next sports challenge for Sofia came Corrida di San Geminiano in Modena that took place on January 31st. The event featured quite unusual 13.350 km distance, however for Sofia it felt easy and smooth as she finished on the first place with excellent result of 44:08 min. Congratulations Sofia!

Спочатку був старт в італійському Терні, де відбувся напівмаратон Terni Half Marathon. Першою у жіночому забігу стала наша Софія Яремчук. Вона подолала 21 097 метрів за 1:10:33. Цікаво, що такий результат став найкращим у кар’єрі українки на цій дистанції. "Я дуже задоволена своїм виступом і особистим рекордом, – сказала Софія. – Три роки тому я тільки могла мріяти про такий результат. Cycling World Cup: Leopolitan Olena Starikova Wins Bronze The UCI Track Cycling World Cup finished its season with its sixth and final event last month in Milton, Canada. More important than ever with valuable Olympic qualifying points on the line, Lviv’s Olena Starikova used a Top 10 finish in Canada to finish third overall in the World Cup standings. Next up is the UCI World Championships in Berlin from 26 February – 1 March. With World Championship and European Games silvers under her belt in 2019, the speedy cyclist is in good shape to not only qualify for Tokyo 2020 – but to compete for a medal! Congratulations Olena!

High jump: Mahuchikh Sets Record at Lviv’s Demyanyuk Memorial Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh broke the world indoor U20 high jump record at the Oleksiy Demyanyuk Memorial High Jump tournament at Lviv’s University of Physical Culture last month. Just four months removed from a silver medal at the World Championships in Doha, where she cleared 2.04 m, Mahuchikh cleared 2.01 m to set the record. The new mark topped her previous best by two centimetres and eclipsed the record previously held by teammate Yuliya Levchenko by one centimetre. The tournament is named after Ukrainian high jumper Oleksiy Demyanyuk, who had the world’s best jump in 1981 at 2.33 metres and finished 11th at the 1980 Summer Olympic Games in Moscow. His son Dmytro is also a high jumper and helped organise the competition.

Рекорд Ярослави Магучіх на меморіалі О. Дем'янюка Українська стрибунка в висоту з Дніпра Ярослава Магучіх минулого місяця побила світовий рекорд в залі в категорії U20 на турнірі пам’яті Олексія Дем'янюка у Львівському університеті фізичної культури. Минуло лише чотири місяці після здобуття нею срібної медалі на чемпіонаті світу в Досі з результатом 204 см. Нове досягнення перевищило її попередній рекорд на два сантиметри і рекорд її товаришки по команді Юлії Левченко на один сантиметр. Турнір названий на честь українського стрибуна Олексія Дем'янюка, який у 1981 році подолав планку на висоті 233 см і посів 11 місце на літніх Олімпійських іграх 1980 року в Москві. Його син Дмитро також є стрибуном у висоту і допоміг організувати ці змагання.

THE GREATEST GOALTENDER THAT EVER LIVED IS GALICIAN Lviv is bidding for the 2030 Winter Olympic Games and while the city isn’t exactly know for its ice hockey chops, did you know that the greatest goaltender that ever lived was Ukrainian? In fact, Terry Sawchuk’s nickname was “The Uke”.

hen it comes to winter sporting heritage in Ukraine, ice hockey isn’t the first sport that comes to mind. But that doesn’t mean that Ukrainians don’t know how to play – or know how to play it well. Some of the best players of all-time are Ukrainian, like Johnny Bucyk, Mike Bossy, Wayne Gretzky, and Terry Sawchuk. What did they all have in common? They were all born to Ukrainian parents that had fled to Canada as immigrants and picked up hockey as a way to fit in. This includes Galicia’s Sawchuk, aka “The Uke” – the greatest goaltender to ever play. GROWING UP UKRAINIAN IN CANADA

Terry Sawchuk was born to Ukrainian parents in Winnepeg, Canada – a place so cold it’s referred to as “Canadian Siberia”. In fact, if Canada had gulags, you can bet they’d be located in the same general area. Speaking of gulags, it was one of the reasons that so many Ukrainians fled Soviet rule; many of which ended up in Canada, including Louis – Terry Sawchuk’s father. Louis emigrated from Galicia to Canada, married Anne, a second-generation Ukrainian immigrant, and settled in a working class, Ukrainian neighbourhood in Winnipeg. The couple had five children, including Terry. He picked up goaltending after his idol – his older brother Mike. He grew up speaking Ukrainian, eating Ukrainian food, and adapting to the hardships of a working class life in a Ukrainian neighbourhood in “Canadian Siberia”. LVIV TODAY | February 2020

BECOMING A LEGEND When Mike, an aspiring goaltender in his own right, died tragically of a heart attack at the age of 17, Terry was determined to take up his brother’s goaltending mantle. It didn’t take long, as Terry had a natural gift for the position. He was so talented, in fact, that the Detroit Red Wings – one of only six professional hockey teams in the world at the time – signed Sawchuk to a junior contact at just 14 years old. It was a wise move. In an era when only six goalies in the world played professional, and Hall of Famers like Jacques Plante, Gump Worsley, and fellow-Ukrainian Johnny Bower, toiled in the minor leagues, ‘The Uke’ cracked the big leagues at just 17 years old. He was simply unbeatable in his first five years, amassing three Stanley Cups, a Rookie of the Year trophy, and three Vezina Trophies for best goaltender in the league. An all-star each of those seasons, he set records that have yet to be broken, including recording a sub 2.00 GAA (average goals allowed per game) each season and a perfect 8-0 record in the 1952 playoffs, which included four shutouts, a .977 save percentage, and not conceding a goal at home the entire playoffs. He also revolutionised the position by introducing the crouch, so that he could see the puck through the legs of the players. GOALIES TAKE A BEATING In those days, teams only carried a single goaltender who was expected to play through

injuries. If one were to be injured – a regular occurrence considering goalies played with no face protection – their team was given 10 minutes to “stitch them up”. Nothing phased ‘The Uke’ though – he famously checked himself out of a hospital in 1964 to go and shutout the Chicago Blackhawks in a playoff game. By the time he had finished, Sawchuk had rewritten the goaltending record book and held coveted records like most wins and most shutouts. His wins record record stood for 30 years, while his shutout record lasted even longer – for 39 years, until Canada’s Martin Brodeur topped it in 2009. GREATEST GOALIE THAT EVER LIVED Sawchuk is still considered the greatest goaltender of all-time. He was named to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1970, had his sweater number retired by Detroit in 1994, and was named one of the Top 100 NHLers of alltime in 2017. His monumental achievements in the game are all the more remarkable considering they still impact people who never had the opportunity to see him play live. He might have even set more records, had he not died tragically following a scuffle with teammate Ron Stewart in 1970. Still, whenever people talk of the greatest players of all-time, one name that is sure to be on everyone’s lips is the great Galician Terry Sawchuk. Ані великого хокею, ані великих хокеїстів чи своїх хокейних полів у нашому місті поки що немає, але в історію хокею таки увійшли декілька українців. Найзнаменитішим з них був Террі Савчук на прізвисько "Юкі" (Ukey), яке він отримав через українське походження. Також всім відомі такі імена гравців НХЛ як от Джонні Буцик, Майк Боссі чи Уейн Грецкі. Їх об’єднує те, що всі вони народились в українських сім’ях, які виїхали до Канади як емігранти і знайшли своє покликання власне в хокеї.

ВИРОСТИ УКРАЇНЦЕМ В КАНАДІ Террі Савчук народився в українській сім’ї в канадському місті Вінніпег – де буває так холодно, що його часом називають "канадським Сибіром". Якби в Канаді були гулаги, то, цілком певно, вони б знаходились саме в цих краях. І саме радянські гулаги були однією з причин, що багато українців втікали з "більшовицького раю"; багато з них після поневірянь потрапили до Канади, серед них і батько Террі – Луї Савчук. Луї емігрував з Галичини до Канади, одружився з Анною, українською іммігранткою другого покоління, і оселився в робітничому кварталі

Вінніпегу. У подружжя було п’ятеро дітей, серед яких Террі був третім. Його старший брат Майк навчив Террі грати в хокей, а доля зробила його воротарем. Террі Савчук мав бути Тарасом, але паспортистка вирішила внести в канадські документи ім'я Терренс. Він виріс розмовляючи українською, їв українську їжу та пристосовувався до труднощів життя робітничого класу в українській дільниці в "канадському Сибіру". СТАНОВЛЕННЯ ЛЕГЕНДИ Коли старший брат Майк, який навчив Террі, як бути воротарем, трагічно помер від серцевого нападу у віці 17 років, Террі вирішив піти його шляхом і зберігав воротарські обладунки брата все життя. В хокей він грав узимку, а в літі займався бейсболом. На одному з таких матчів його помітив тренер команди "Detroit Red Wings" – однієї з шести професійних хокейних команд того часу – і підписав Савчука на юніорський контакт, коли йому було лише 14 років. В епоху, коли лише шість голкіперів у світі грали професійно, а внесені до Залу слави гравці, як от Жак Плант, Гамп Ворслі та ще один українець Джонні Боуер, виступали в другорядних лігах, наш "Юкі" виступив у матчах вищої ліги, маючи лише 17 років. У перші п’ять років він був просто неперевершеним, здобувши разом зі своїми командами три кубки Стенлі, трофей "Новачка року" та три "Трофеї Везіна" і звання найкращого воротаря ліги. Він був зіркою у кожному з цих сезонів, він встановив рекорди, які ще ніхто не побив, включаючи показник менше 2 пропущених голів у середньому за гру в сезоні та рекорд 8-0 у плей-оф 1952 року, який включав чотири "сухі" матчі, показник 0,977 відбитих шайб, і не пропустив жодної шайби в домашніх матчах у цілому плей-оф. Це саме він запровадив традиційну сьогодні стійку воротаря на зігнутих ногах, завдяки якій можна було бачити шайбу через ноги гравців.

НАЙКРАЩИЙ ВОРОТАР ВСІХ ЧАСІВ Террі Савчук досі вважається найкращим хокейним воротарем усіх часів. Його ім’я було внесене до хокейного Залу Слави 1970 року, а його номер в команді Детройта після 1994 більше нікому не присвоювався, також він був названий одним зі 100 найкращих гравців НХЛ усіх часів 2017 року. Його спортивні досягнення були грандіозними і вони все ще мають вплив на інших гравців, які ніколи не бачили його гри в реальності. Він міг би

встановити ще більше рекордів, якби трагічно не загинув після безглуздої сутички з товаришем по команді 1970 року (вину за яку він взяв на себе). І сьогодні, коли згадують найкращого хокейного воротаря усіх часів, звучить ім’я українця Террі Савчука, відомого на прізвисько "Юкі".

Відмінною рисою Савчука була його стійка. Через артрит він не міг весь матч простояти рівно, тому нахилявся майже на 90 градусів. Сам того не розуміючи він задав тренд, до сих пір саме в такій позі можна часто побачити воротарів в хокейних матчах.

ТЯЖКА ДОЛЯ ВОРОТАРЯ У ті часи хокейна команда мала лише одного воротаря, який мусив грати, незважаючи на травми. Воротарі грали тоді без маски і якщо шайба, пущена з величезною швидкістю, розсікала обличчя, команді давали 10 хвилин, щоб зашити йому рану. Лише на обличчі Савчук мав за всю свою хокейну кар’єру понад 600 швів, в тому числі три на очному яблуці (!), втрату 70% працездатності правої руки, з ліктя якої було вилучено 60 уламків, пробита легеня, зруйнований диск хребта, два переломи носа, переломи ступні, закупорений кишківник, розірвані сухожилля кисті, інфекційний мононуклеоз та постійна загроза нервового зриву. Ніщо не могло стати на заваді нашому "Юкі" – він просто втік з лікарні 1964 року і таки виступив за "Чикаго Блекхоукс" у матчі плей-офф. Коли він заверши свою хокейну кар’єру, Савчук мав за собою купу воротарських рекордів, серед яких, зокрема, найбільша кількість перемог команди та "сухих" матчів. Його рекорд перемог команди протримався 30 років, а рекорд "сухих" матчів ще довше – 39 років, і його подолав лише 2009 року Мартін Бродеур з Канади. LVIV TODAY | February 2020

Воротарі грали тоді без маски і якщо шайба, пущена з величезною швидкістю, розсікала обличчя, команді давали 10 хвилин, щоб зашити йому рану. NEW FLIGHTS WILL BRING LVIV CLOSER TO EUROPE

elcome another 49 flights per week! This year Danylo Halytskyi International Airport Lviv will increase amount of flights for the existing destinations, and will add some completely new flights. Record is set by Ukraine’s low-cost airline SkyUp that has already started selling tickets for new flights to the Italian cities of Lamezia, Terme, Bergamo, Bologna, and Rome from the Ukrainian cities of Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, and Lviv. The Lviv-Rome-Lviv flight will operate from 29 March to 24 October three times a week – on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. One-way tickets to Rome start at 1400 UAH, while return tickets start at 1900 UAH. The Lviv-Naples-Lviv flight will operate for the same period but twice weekly – on Tuesdays and Fridays. Tickets start at 1100 UAH one-way and 1400 UAH return. Leopolitans looking to fly to Milan can catch a Monday or Friday flight to Milan (Bergamo) during the same period, with tickets starting at 1400 UAH for a one-way fare and 1500 UAH return.

Рекордсменом стала українська лоу-кост авіакомпанія SkyUp яка вже розпочала продаж квитків на нові рейси до італійських міст Ламеція, Терме, Бергамо, Болонья та Рим з Києва, Одеси, Харкова та Львова. Рейс Львів – Рим – Львів діятиме з 29 березня по 24 жовтня тричі на тиждень – у вівторок, четвер та неділю. Квитки в один бік до Риму коштуватимуть від 1400 грн., а зворотні квитки – від 1900 грн. Рейс ЛьвівНеаполь-Львів буде виконуватись в той же період, але двічі на тиждень – у вівторок та п’ятницю. Квитки коштуватимуть від 1100 грн. в один бік і 1400 грн. зворотні. Львів’яни зможуть полетіти до Мілана в понеділок або п’ятницю рейсом до Мілана (Бергамо) в той же період, а квитки коштуватимуть від 1400 грн. до Мілана і назад – 1500 грн.

Starting from 29 March Hungarian budget airline Wizz Air will launch flights from Budapest to Ukrainian cities of Kharkiv and Lviv. The Lviv-Budapest flight will operate twice a week at 13:35 on Wednesdays and Sundays, while Budapest-Lviv will take place at 11:00 on same days. One-way tickets will cost around 430 UAH.

Авіаперевізник Wizz Air відкриває прямі рейси Львів – Будапешт. Польоти стартують 29 березня, їх виконуватимуть двічі на тиждень – у середу та неділю. Зі Львова літак вирушатиме о 13:35 та прибуватиме до столиці Угорщини за годину. Назад до Львова можна полетіти об 11:00. Вартість квитків в одну сторону стартує від 430 грн.

The Irish low cost airline Ryanair (Dublin) will also start flying on the Lviv-Budapest (Hungary) route from April 2020. The Lviv-Budapest flight will operate twice a week at 23:45 on Wednesdays and at 22:55 on Sundays, while Budapest-Lviv will take place at 21:05 on Wednesdays and at 20:15 on Sundays. Round trip tickets price will start from 30 Euro.

Ірландський лоукостер Ryanair оголосив про запуск авіарейсів зі Львова у Будапешт з квітня 2020 року. Як і Wizz Air, Ryanair буде виконувати рейси зі Львова у Будапешт двічі на тиждень. І при цьому обидві авіакомпанії літатимуть в однакові дні: Львів – Будапешт, виліт по середам 23:45, неділям 22:55, а Будапешт – Львів, виліт по середам 21:05, неділям 20:15. Ціни стартують від 800 грн. і вище у два боки.
